Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 132 - 131: Working Hard to Pay Off Debt
Xue Yang said with a smile, "Once I’ve decided to do something, I don’t regret it. Yu Fei, are you willing to do what I just asked? If not, I think we can drop this topic right here."
It was only then that Sun Yufei realized she had been too hasty. She wasn’t anything to Xue Yang, after all. What right did she have to interfere in his business?
She smiled and said, "Of course."
"Thank you."
"Don’t thank me. But I’m very curious about something."
"What is it?" Xue Yang asked.
"Do you really have a girlfriend?"
Sun Yufei had always thought it was just an excuse he used to reject people. After all, no one had ever seen what his girlfriend looked like.
Xue Yang admitted openly, "That’s right. I have a girlfriend."
Sun Yufei was slightly startled. "Can you show me a picture of your girlfriend?"
"You’ll have a chance to see her."
Sun Yufei clicked her tongue. "You’re keeping her under tight wraps."
Xue Yang said gently, "She doesn’t like being seen by strangers."
Seeing the tender look on Xue Yang’s face when he mentioned his girlfriend, Sun Yufei knew that no matter how hard she tried, it would be useless. "I thought I might have a chance with Xue Yang, but it looks like I’m out of luck," she said.
Upon hearing this, Xue Yang answered earnestly, "Yes."
Sun Yufei was amused by his serious demeanor.
She said candidly, "I hope we can be friends."
"Aren’t we friends already?"
They looked at each other and smiled openly, without a hint of ambiguity.
After dinner, it was already dark. Xue Yang dropped Sun Yufei off at the school entrance and then headed to the company.
When Sun Yufei returned to her dorm, her roommates swarmed her.
"How was it? What was it like going on a date with Xue Yang?"
"Did you two hit it off?"
"Is he as much of a gentleman as he seems, or is he like one of those scoundrels from a novel who turns into a wolf and pounces when he sees a woman he likes? Oh, and Yu Fei, you shouldn’t have come back tonight! You wasted such a good opportunity."
Once the door was closed, the topics in the girls’ dormitory were always this explosive. The gossip was so juicy that anyone eavesdropping would have been utterly captivated.
Sun Yufei didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "What are you all talking about? It was just a meal. The way you’re all carrying on, it sounds like I went to discuss marriage plans with Xue Yang."
"Has it already reached that stage? As expected of you, Yu Fei. You’re our goddess!"
Sun Yufei quickly cut off their fantasizing. "Please, stop dreaming. Xue Yang already has a girlfriend, and he loves her very much. Besides, we’re friends now."
"Huh? You’re going to be friends with someone you have a crush on? Are you serious, Yu Fei?"
"I do like Xue Yang, but there’s no need to pester him when I know he already has a girlfriend. Isn’t becoming his friend the best way to forget someone?"
Because once you become friends, you no longer have to worry about your image in his eyes. That initial layer of attraction will slowly fade away. Without the filter of attraction, he will become no different from any ordinary person.
Although the others wanted to say more, since Sun Yufei herself wasn’t conflicted, there was nothing left to say.
And so, the matter was dropped.
When Xue Yang arrived at the company, Cui Hao immediately stopped what he was doing.
"I didn’t think you’d come in tonight."
Xue Yang shot him a look, and Cui Hao quickly shut his mouth.
"Is the portrait agreement drafted yet?"
"Right away!" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"If you can’t finish it tonight, don’t bother coming back to the dorm."
"Wow, you capitalist! Even vampires don’t suck blood like this," Cui Hao griped, though he still sped up his work.
Now that they had an office, the three of them usually stayed until after midnight before heading back to their dorms. Occasionally, they would grab a late-night snack outside, after which Xue Yang and Cui Hao would escort Yu Kexin back to her dormitory before returning to the men’s dorm.
To repay the loan from Trendy Apparel, Xue Yang had been coming in for photo shoots more frequently. Sometimes, he would head over right after his afternoon classes and not return until eleven or twelve at night.
On weekends, he would be holed up there for both days. Seeing how hard Xue Yang was working, Jennifer booked a hotel room near Trendy Apparel for his temporary use.
Looking at the luxurious suite Trendy Apparel had prepared for him, Xue Yang felt a bit embarrassed. "Jennifer, isn’t this too extravagant?"
"Don’t worry, it’s a company expense; it won’t be deducted from your pay," Jennifer assured him. "The big boss said that even though you owe the company a large sum of money, your basic needs for food and shelter must still be met. Our company isn’t the kind that only exploits its employees."
Hearing this, Xue Yang grew even more curious about the head of Trendy Apparel. What kind of person possessed such generosity?
If Xue Yang knew that person was Si Wen, he would realize she was simply so wealthy that she didn’t care about a few million. Moreover, the person providing the money wasn’t even her; it was someone else. So, of course, she was even less concerned.
"Jennifer, please be sure to thank the big boss for me."
Jennifer almost said that the big boss had come by that day, but on second thought, he decided against it. The big boss had specifically told him not to reveal her identity to Xue Yang.
This made Jennifer incredibly curious. Could there be some connection between Xue Yang and the big boss?
A melodrama of the year was already playing out in his mind. The big boss, smitten by Xue Yang’s handsome face, wanted to keep him as her lover. But Xue Yang, refusing to be a kept man, righteously rejected her. The big boss, however, wouldn’t give up. She tried every trick in the book to get close to Xue Yang and make him submit. Coincidentally, Xue Yang came to work at Trendy Apparel—the boss’s own company—completely unaware that his boss was the very person he was trying to escape. Just when he thought his hard work had finally given him the power to stand up to her, he would discover that he had been in the palm of her hand all along.
"Brilliant. Simply brilliant," Jennifer muttered aloud.
Xue Yang looked at him, puzzled. "What?"
Jennifer quickly realized he had almost let his thoughts slip and hurriedly said, "I mean, you’re so tall."
"..."
Xue Yang had a feeling that wasn’t what Jennifer had meant, but he had no proof.
"You get some rest. We’ll shoot for one more day tomorrow. I’ll have a company car take you back to school in the evening."
"Thank you, Jennifer."
"You’re welcome."
If you’re going to thank someone, thank the big boss, Jennifer thought.
With that, he left the hotel.
Once Jennifer was gone, Xue Yang was left alone in the room. Surrounded by the luxurious environment, he felt a wave of melancholy.
If only Lin Xi were here.
