"What did you say just now, Ethan Askary?" growled Sebastian De Louis.
That man had indeed given orders to several of his shadow knights to keep an eye on Isabella Lysander. He didn’t accept it because the woman started rebelling against him and said she didn’t want to marry him. Isabella Lysander has changed. If that woman changed, then Sebastian wouldn’t be able to have her again in the future. And that can’t be happening at all. He should be able to make Penelope his Empress and Isabella his concubine.
Then, one of the shadow knights sent a report to him via the messenger bird. They say that Isabella and Ethan Askary kissed in the middle of the street! How angry Sebastian was when he heard this. He’s jealous, that’s obvious. He still hadn’t managed to snatch Penelope Askary from Edmund Gerwyn and now Isabella Lysander would slip out of his arms? Of course, Sebastian couldn’t let that happen. Apart from sending the report, the shadow knight also said that Isabella and Ethan were going to Gerwyn’s mansion. Because of that, Sebastian went straight to Gerwyn’s mansion to meet Ethan and interrogate him.
But, Sebastian never thought he would hear this nonsense from Ethan Askary’s mouth.
"I said, am I wrong if I kiss my own lover’s lips?" asked Ethan lazily. The man put his right hand on his waist and his left brushed his hair back. Ethan sighed. "I can’t believe I have to tell you guys about this. Err... I don’t know if His Highness still has a relationship with my Isabel or not but I don’t care. If people say I’m a son of a bitch and a shameless man, who dares to snatch the Crown Prince’s woman, I will accept it." Ethan looked at Isabella, who was silent. The beautiful woman still looked confused and didn’t believe Ethan’s words right now. He smiled. "What can I do if I fall in love with her? She is a very beautiful and adorable woman. And, when I saw you hurting her in the palace garden at that time, I decided that I would take her from you and make her happy."
Penelope, who had been watching this commotion with her mouth wide open due to her shock, immediately massaged the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes. The woman shook her head in disbelief. Then, Penelope immediately rested her head on Edmund’s warm chest and scowled at the man as she looked up to see her husband’s face.
"Ed, please get over this matter as soon as possible. I don’t want to see Sebastian De Louis in this mansion and I don’t want him to bother my older brother and also Isabella."
"Are you trying to kick me out, Duchess Penelope?" asked Sebastian in a sharp tone. He was indeed arguing with Ethan Askary but that didn’t mean he couldn’t hear the things going on around him.
"Oh? You heard that, Your Highness?" Penelope challenged the man. The woman smiled sweetly, making Sebastian swallow hard. Ah... how much he wanted Penelope Askary in his life. "Yes, I want you to leave my mansion right now. And, stop bothering my older Brother as well as Isabel. Are you shameless?"
"Duchess Penelope, watch your mouth!" shouted one of Sebastian De Louis’s knights. That made Edmund Gerwyn growl and give the knight a murderous look. Then, unexpectedly by everyone, Edmund took out a small dagger from his clothes and directly threw it at the knight’s thigh. The knight screamed and fell to his knees. Sebastian De Louis just silently watched this and looked at Edmund with a cold gaze.
"You are the one who has to watch your mouth, lowly Knight. Do you dare speak in such a high tone to my wife, the esteemed Duchess of the De Louis empire? Be thankful that I didn’t throw the dagger in your mouth!"
Suddenly, Isabella Lysander stepped toward Sebastian De Louis. Realizing this, Ethan Askary clicked his tongue and immediately grabbed her arm. He stared firmly at Isabella, who smiled reassuringly at him. Then, while letting Ethan hold her arm, Isabella looked up and glared at Sebastian.
"Your Highness," Isabella called out. The woman didn’t even call Sebastian’s name anymore like she usually did. "I do love you, it’s true. But, you’ve changed. You are no longer the warm man that you used to be. I already said this to you in the palace back then, didn’t I? No woman wants her lover or husband to glance over and covet another woman, Your Highness. So do I. I just want to be the only one for the man I love and who loves me. But, you simply said that you wanted to make Duchess Penelope your Empress. You want to snatch her from Duke Edmund’s arms. Originally, I also wanted to destroy the Duke and Duchess’ relationship because I thought the Duke was mine like I own you. You two are men who always care about me and always protect me. However, I realized that my thoughts and actions were wrong. I’ve also told you that I don’t want to marry you anymore, Your Highness. I’m going to find a new love and the man I love right now is..." Isabella looked at Ethan and smiled softly. "Ethan Askary. I love him."
Ethan Askary froze when he heard Isabella’s words. The man cleared his throat and looked away. His goal when he said that Isabella was his lover was so that Sebastian De Louis would no longer bother her. But, why is Isabella now confessing her love in front of everyone? And why did he feel shy and even want to run away from this place?!
"Bitch!" Sebastian shouted. He intended to slap Isabella but Ethan made his move. The man pulled Isabella’s arm which he had been holding since before, and then positioned his body in front of Sebastian. And, when Sebastian waved his right hand, the man slapped Ethan instead of Isabella.
The sound of a slap that was so loud made Penelope flinch. The woman widened her eyes when she saw Ethan being pushed away by Sebastian’s slap. The corners of Ethan’s lips were starting to bleed. Penelope growled and pointed at Sebastian’s face.
"Sebastian De Louis!" Penelope shouted. "How dare you hurt My older brother?!"
The knights brought by Sebastian immediately took out their swords and pointed them at Penelope due to Penelope’s impolite words to the Imperial Crown Prince. Isabella started to panic on the spot. All of this is her fault. Because of her, everyone got into trouble. Especially Ethan. But, why was that man still protecting her at this time? The man told her to stay behind him while Ethan faced the imperial knights in front of them.
"You guys really hope to die at the hands of this cruel Duke of the empire," Edmund growled. The man took out his sword which now emits black light and black smoke. The black light and black smoke started to surround the imperial knights, who dared to point their swords at the Duchess. Then, the imperial knights widened their eyes and screamed in pain. Their swords fell to the floor and they fell to their knees.
"Big Brother, are you okay?" Penelope asked as she approached Ethan. She cupped Ethan’s face and examined his bleeding lips. Penelope’s golden eyes glanced at Ethan’s hand that was still holding Isabella’s arm and how Isabella looked worried in her place. "Should I slap that son of a bitch because he dared to touch you, Brother?"
Ethan blinked and the next second he was laughing. Ethan ruffled Penelope’s hair. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"I’m fine, Penny. You don’t have to worry about me." Ethan looked at Edmund and Sebastian. While Edmund looked very scary because he was torturing the imperial knights with the strange power of his sword, Sebastian froze and looked pale. "You better stop your husband. He can kill everyone."
Penelope nodded and ran to Edmund. The woman wrapped her arms around Edmund’s waist and looked up. Her eyes stared firmly at Edmund’s handsome face which looked stiff.
"Ed, stop it. That’s enough."
Edmund clicked his tongue and stopped his power. The imperial knights were coughing and trying to inhale as much oxygen as possible. In his place, Sebastian De Louis growled and clenched his fists at his sides.
"I won’t forget this," Sebastian said coldly. "I will surely pay you back, Edmund Gerwyn!"
"I’ll be waiting for you, Sebastian De Louis," replied Edmund mockingly.
After giving Ethan and Isabella a murderous glare, Sebastian left Gerwyn’s mansion along with his knights. Penelope immediately breathed a sigh of relief and rested her head against Edmund’s chest.
"I’m so tired," the woman muttered. "I want to rest, Ed."
Edmund nodded and immediately picked up Penelope. He looked at Evan and said, "Evan, tidy up everything. Then, call the doctor to treat my brother-in-law’s wound. After that, order Sarah to bring some food for the Duchess."
The butler nodded and immediately carried out all of Edmund’s orders. Meanwhile, Isabella brought Edmund into the room she previously shared with Penelope to chat. The woman was assisted by Edgar. After Edgar left the room, Isabella took out her handkerchief and wiped the blood at the corner of Ethan’s mouth.
"Why did you do that?" asked Isabella in a low tone. Her voice was shaking because she felt guilty for hurting Ethan. "You got hurt trying to protect me."
"Should I let you get slapped by the Crown Prince then?" Sebastian asked instead of answering. "I’m fine, Isabella. This wound is only a small wound. There’s nothing for you to worry about."
Isabella was silent. The woman looked down. Her hands clenched tightly on her thighs. Her tears started to fall, making Ethan take a deep breath and stroke Isabella’s head gently.
"Don’t cry. You are an annoying woman, who deserves more to scold me than to cry, Isabella."
Isabella sobbed and wiped the tears off her face. She looked up and met Ethan Askary’s red eyes. Eyes that look like a ruby. The woman reached out her hand without her realizing it and placed her hand on Ethan’s cheek.
"Ethan," Isabella called. "Are you starting to fall in love with me?"
The question made Ethan freeze. The man was wide-eyed. He didn’t know how to react. A few seconds passed and both of them were silent. It was then, Isabella blinked and stood up from the sofa. Her face heated up rapidly and the woman started to panic. She didn’t expect that she had just asked such an impudent question to Ethan Askary!
"I’m sorry! I am really, really, sorry!" cried Isabella. "I’ve lost my mind. I know you won’t fall in love with an annoying woman like me, who insulted your little sister! I... I... you, just take a rest! I’m going to see Penny’s condition! Once again, thank you for protecting me, Ethan Askary!"
Isabella walked briskly toward the door of this room. When she was about to open the door, Ethan’s voice was heard and it made Isabella stop in her tracks.
"Could you give me some time to think things over?" asked Ethan Askary.
Isabella swallowed hard and turned her head. She could see Ethan’s firm look for her.
"I will give your question some serious thought. Because, I don’t know what I feel for you right now, Isabella. Either I will accept your declaration of love or reject it, let me think about it. Please, give me some time."
"Then..." Isabella moistened her lips. Her face flushed and she looked down. "Can I hope?"
Ethan looked at the petite woman by the door. "I don’t know, but..." Ethan clenched his fists and closed his eyes. "You better not get your hopes up too much. I don’t want to hurt anyone and I don’t want to see you cry because of me. I’m sorry."
Isabella smiled sadly.
Ah... looks like she will be rejected by Ethan Askary.
