Chapter 181: #181-The Crown Prince’ Funeral

Penelope Askary strengthened the protection magic around her.

The woman had lost quite a lot of mana but she didn’t care. If she gave up now, then everyone would die including her children. Penelope couldn’t let that happen. Even if she died, she had to make sure Raven and Ocean lived happily. She must ensure that her children’s future is safe and protected.

"You look tired, Penelope Askary," chuckled Goddess Oizys. "Well, I’ll give you time to rest." The woman in the black dress snapped her fingers and a black magic circle appeared under her and Gabriel Brown’s feet. "I will also give Emperor De Louis permission to bury his foolish son. We’ll meet again the day after tomorrow, Penelope Askary. The day after tomorrow will be the death day for you and everyone who is not on my and Gabriel Brown’s side. Killing you now won’t make me happy because you won’t be able to fight us well."

"See you the day after tomorrow, Penelope Askary," said Gabriel Brown, waving. "Who knows, maybe I will spare your life and make you mine. You are very beautiful, I have to admit. And, I want to know what would happen if I got you pregnant. What happens if the power of darkness is in the womb of a woman who has holy power like you? Ha ha."

"Bastard!" shouted Edmund. He broke out of Penelope’s protective magic and pointed his sword at Gabriel Brown. "I’ll rip your mouth out, Gabriel Brown!"

However, Goddess Oizys and Gabriel Brown have disappeared. Penelope’s protective magic also disappeared and the woman immediately fell to her knees. She tried to catch her breath. Her right hand squeezed her chest as if to calm her heart.

"Penny!" exclaimed Ethan Askary. He ran towards his little sister and helped her. "Hey, you okay?"

Penelope turned her head and nodded weakly. She smiled. "I’m glad Brother Ethan is okay."

"Well, I’m hurt but I’m fine. Your husband protects me well. Besides, I will be a Father soon. There’s no way I would act rashly when fighting. I don’t want to lose my life and leave Isabel and Ruby, who are in her womb, alone in this world."

Penelope glanced at Edmund. The Duke is directing his people to clean up Gerwyn’s mansion which was destroyed by Sebastian De Louis’ attack. Penelope then asked Ethan to take her to Philleo Aaron and Claude Sylvester’s place. She opened her palms and the pink light began to surround the two men’s bodies.

"Penny, you’re too tired," Ethan said in a worried tone. "Are you going to be okay?"

"I’m fine," said Penelope. Even so, her beautiful face was very pale. "Why do I have this power if I can’t save injured people? Maybe I can’t save the dead Sebastian De Louis but I can still save other people." The Duchess looked at the Emperor. "Your Majesty, I’m sorry. Because I couldn’t help your son, he—"

"It’s okay, Duchess." The Emperor smiled faintly. "Ah, should I call you Saintess now? My son died because it was his fate. I’m not angry with you. If you and Duke Edmund don’t stop him, I’m sure he will sink deeper into the darkness and will kill everyone including us." The Emperor stroked Sebastian’s face. He let tears drip down his face. An Emperor cannot appear weak. An Emperor cannot be weak. But, as a Father, allow him to be weak. Which Father in this world doesn’t feel sad if they lose the child they love? "At the end of his life, Sebastian smiled. I think this kid has realized his mistake and regrets it. I hope he can find light and not be trapped in the darkness even though he is dead."

Penelope broke away from Ethan and approached the Emperor. Then, the woman knelt near the Emperor and pointed at Sebastian’s face with her index finger. The pink light came out and covered Sebastian De Louis’ corpse. The Emperor was wide-eyed. He could even feel the warmth of the pink light.

"He will find his way," said Penelope. The woman smiled. "The light of the Goddess that I blessed on his corpse will help him there. You don’t need to worry, Your Majesty. Darkness will not interfere with Sebastian De Louis’ journey to another realm."

Emperor De Louis smiled and nodded repeatedly. The man hugged his son’s corpse again and stroked his hair affectionately.

"Thank God, Tian. I’m grateful. Thank you very much, Duchess. Thank you."

Penelope nodded and stood up. She looked at Philleo and Claude. Slowly, the wounds on the two men’s bodies disappeared. Penelope was sure that soon, Philleo and Claude would be fine. The woman smiled.

"Good, I can save them. Now, I have to—" Penelope didn’t continue her sentence. She felt very dizzy and her body suddenly swayed forward. "Huh?"

Before Penelope’s body fell into the ruins of Edmund’s study, the Duke ran towards her and caught her body. The pink light surrounding Philleo and Claude disappeared and fortunately, they both looked fine. Penelope felt her body was very weak and helpless. She turned her head and looked into Edmund’s blue eyes which were looking worried and panicked at her.

"Penny, are you okay?" asked the man.

"I’m tired." Penelope wet her lips and closed her eyes. "I—"

"Shh. Don’t say any more," said Edmund. The man carried Penelope’s body and walked quickly out of his study. "Claude told me that Raven and Ocean’s room was enchanted with protective magic. I’m sure the room is fine. We’re going there and you should rest. Becoming a Saintess doesn’t mean you won’t get tired and won’t lack mana or strength. Moreover, you are pregnant. You are pregnant with my child. I will not let you and my child be in danger."

For a moment, Penelope forgot the fact that she was pregnant with her second child. The woman rubbed her stomach gently and lovingly.

"I’m sorry, darling. Mother dragged you into danger. You’re fine in there, aren’t you?"

"Of course, the baby’s all right," said Edmund. The man looked down and smiled. "The baby’s our child, Penny. Our child is strong. I’m sure our second child will be difficult to manage because you act as you please."

Penelope pouted. She rested her head on Edmund’s warm chest.

"Oh? You’re acting spoiled to me, huh?"

"Spoil me before I end the war with Goddess Oizys the day after tomorrow." Penelope was silent. "Hey, Ed, are we going to get a better ending—"

"We arrived."

Penelope blinked and looked at the twins’ bedroom door. Was it just her feelings or was Edmund Gerwyn deliberately changing the subject just now?

"This door... Do you think I can open it? I mean, Claude cast a magic spell in this room to protect the twins. Sarah is also inside and I think Edgar is with them too."

"Claude’s power is white magic power. He will definitely allow us as the twins’ parents to open the door to this room." Penelope pointed to the bedroom door in front of her. "Open it."

Edmund opened the door and succeeded. In the room, the twins were playing while Sarah and Edgar were asleep. Edmund frowned. He placed Penelope carefully on the bed, then looked at Sarah and Edgar.

"How can they fall asleep while my children are playing without anyone watching?"

Penelope chuckled. She hugged Raven and Ocean. "My children have some of the power of the Goddess, Ed. Claude’s magic power obviously can’t affect them."

"Hm." Edmund sat beside Penelope and took Ocean Gerwyn from his wife’s arms. Then, the Duke kissed Raven’s forehead and Raven immediately made a sullen face. "Then, what should we do now?"

"Waiting." Penelope took a deep breath and looked out the window. "And rest to increase our strength again."

###

The funeral of the imperial Crown Prince De Louis was tense.

They didn’t even know whether it was day or night because the sky was dark in the De Louis empire. Everyone mourns. They are busy asking what happened to Sebastian De Louis. The imperial people said that Sebastian died as a result of an attack by monsters. However, the incident happened at Gerwyn’s mansion. Isn’t that strange? The monsters only appeared in the imperial capital and the surrounding areas while Gerwyn’s mansion was quite far from the imperial capital.

"Because the Crown Prince is no longer with us," said Emperor De Louis. "Then the position of future Emperor is still vacant. The Empress and I are still thinking about who will be the next Emperor. We will tell you that after all the chaos in the De Louis empire is over."

"Saintess is with us!" The Empress also spoke. "We must not lose hope. We must help each other and pray to Goddess Elleia so that the Goddess protects this empire through the Saintess!"

Edmund Gerwyn and Penelope Askary nod towards the people present at Sebastian De Louis’ funeral. Everyone clapped and shouted Penelope Askary’s name.

After the Crown Prince’s funeral was over, everyone returned to their respective residences. Penelope looked down. She thought of ways how she could protect the people of the empire. Monsters were still appearing and the knights, whether imperial knights or knights from noble families, were having a hard time dealing with them all. The knights were also exhausted and some of them were injured. Many magicians also helped the knights.

"Duchess."

The call made Penelope stop in her tracks. She turned her head and Helios Rune Abelavish approached with a smile.

"Your Highness." Penelope glanced at Edmund. Her husband was talking to the Emperor and Empress. "You also came to Sebastian De Louis’ funeral?"

"Yes, I received information regarding Sebastian’s death. I didn’t expect that he would become a follower of Goddess Oizys and almost kill all of you. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you."

"It’s fine. You are more needed in the Abelavish empire, Your Highness," Penelope smiled.

"Oh, I came to you because I had something to tell you."

"Yes?"

"About the dark sky and all the monsters." Helios grinned. "I know how to eliminate them all."
