Edmund Gerwyn continues to be by Penelope Askary’s side.
The Duke held Penelope’s cold hand tightly and patiently waited for the woman to open her eyes. Earlier, Sarah came to bring Raven and Ocean because the twins were crying. Edmund tried to calm his children and fortunately, they stopped crying. Then, suddenly a pink light came out of the twins’ hands which aimed at Penelope Askary’s body. Edmund Gerwyn hopes that the twins’ powers can make Penelope open her eyes. However, until now his wife had not opened her eyes and Edmund had told Sarah to take Raven and Ocean back to their room.
"Duke, perhaps the Duchess will open her eyes tomorrow," said Helios. He stood behind Edmund and held his shoulders. Jeremy waited in front of the room together with Edgar. Meanwhile, Edmund had told Ren to tell Ethan about this. "You should rest, Duke. If the Duchess sees you like this when she opens her eyes, the Duchess will feel sad."
Edmund rubbed his face with both of his hands. "This is all my fault."
"What?"
"If I hadn’t been angry with Penny... if I hadn’t had such a big fight with my wife, maybe Penny wouldn’t have been in this kind of danger. I failed to protect my own wife. I don’t deserve to live. I—"
"Then, give her to me."
Hearing that, Edmund froze. The man stared at Helios with a murderous gaze. In his place, Helios swallowed hard. Even just with Edmund’s gaze, Helios was sure that the man could really kill other people. Helios felt he had to do this. Not because he still had an interest in Penelope Askar but because he had to get Edmund Gerwyn out of his bad thoughts.
"What did you say?" asked Edmund in a cold tone. The man stood up from his chair and approached Helios. "Handing Penelope over to you? Have you lost your mind?! Do you think my wife is an item, huh?!"
Helios tilted his head and smiled mockingly. It’s very difficult to act like this because Edmund Gerwyn looks very scary and dangerous right now. That man didn’t care about a person’s noble status. Anyone who tries to hurt his family or touch his family, Edmund will eliminate them all. Even a Crown Prince like him.
"Why does the Duchess have to be by your side, Duke?" Helios asked in a challenging tone. "Didn’t you just say that this was all your fault? You don’t deserve to live and there’s a lot more to your bullshit, right?" Helios shrugged. "Then, I will take over your position. I will protect the Duchess and your children. And you, you can kill yourself or whatever you want."
"Your Highness!" shouted Edmund. The Duke grabbed Helios by the collar of his clothes, making Helios choke but still glaring at Edmund. "Watch your words!"
"You are the one who has to watch your words!" Helios shouted back. He jerked Edmund’s hands away from his collar and pointed at the Duke’s face. "If you have time to demean yourself and also say nonsensical things like that, you better use your time to correct your mistakes and train harder to be able to protect the lives of your family!"
Edmund hated to admit it but what Helios said was true. The two men turned their heads towards the door when they heard a commotion at the door. Then, the door opened and Isabella Lysander came running into the room while crying. Jeremy and Edgar seemed unable to do anything to prevent Isabella and Ethan.
"Weren’t you taught manners, Isabella Lysander?!" shouted Edmund in a voice full of anger. "You—"
Suddenly, a sword aimed at his neck. Edmund was silent and glanced at Ethan Askary who was giving him a murderous look. The man looked much scarier than usual. Seeing Edmund and Ethan, Helios could only sigh heavily and massage the bridge of his nose.
"Watch your tone in front of Isabel, Duke Edmund," Ethan said in a cold tone.
"What if I don’t want to?" challenged Edmund. The man smiled mockingly. "What are you going to do, little Duke?"
"I will kill you."
"Oh, really?" Edmund laughed and snorted. He took out his sword and began to fill it with his aura. The sword began to be surrounded by blue and black light. "Then, try me!"
"Shut up!"
The exclamation made Edmund and Ethan turn their heads around. They both were wide-eyed when they saw that Penelope Askary had gotten up from her lying position. She was seen hugging Isabella, who was crying and giving her husband and older brother a sharp look.
"Are you two kids or what, huh?!" Penelope growled. "You guys want to kill each other in front of me?!"
"Penny!"
Because they were both calling Penelope’s name, Edmund and Ethan looked at each other. The two men snorted and approached Penelope’s bed. Edmund immediately sat down next to Penelope and held her hand tightly, then smiled with relief at his wife.
"Thank God you’re awake, Honey," said Edmund in a gentle tone. "How do you feel? I was very shocked and scared when I saw you suddenly appear while crying."
"I’m fine." Penelope took a deep breath and looked at Isabella. "Isabel, you came here because you had a vision of me, right?"
Isabella, who was sobbing, nodded. She let go of her embrace on Penelope’s body and wiped the tears from her face.
"It must be pretty scary, right?" Isabella asked. "I was very scared when I saw those corpses, Penny. I can still smell the scent of the blood until this moment. I can’t imagine what it was like when you were in that room. Now, you have to stay away from that crazy man, Penny! You will be used as his guinea pig, right?"
"Guinea pig?!" exclaimed Edmund. His eyes widened. "What does that mean, Isabella? Who intends to use my wife as their guinea pig?!"
"I... didn’t really see him and don’t know him that well."
"Gabriel Brown."
"Yes?" Edmund blinked. The man was shocked. Just like Edmund, Ethan was surprised, as was Helios. Even though Helios came from the Abelavish empire, Gabriel Brown, the head priest at the De Louis imperial temple, was very well known in the Abelavish empire. "Gabriel Brown?"
"He killed everyone in the room and he wanted me to be his guinea pig. He asked me to return the holy power to him because he thought this holy power belonged to him."
"Wait, he killed all those innocent people? What for?" Helios asked in a confused tone.
"Is it... human sacrifice?" asked Edmund in disbelief. "For black magic?! But, he’s the head priest! He should have holy power, not black magic."
"I’ll explain later," said Penelope. She grinned. And, for some reason, this grin made Edmund and Ethan swallow hard and freeze. They already knew that if Penelope was grinning like this, then the woman must have a plan that would give them headaches. "I have a plan. This is a very good plan and I already discussed it with Goddess Elleia when I met her earlier."
"What plan...?" asked Edmund in a doubtful tone. He was happy because Penelope wasn’t angry with him anymore and didn’t talk about their previous fight but he had a really bad feeling now for some reason.
"I’m going to seduce Gabriel Brown!"
The words spoken in a cheerful tone made Edmund groan and ruffle his hair. Ethan’s mouth opened wide, Isabella blinked, and Helios rubbed his chin while raising an eyebrow.
"That’s not... a bad idea...?" Helios commented. However, that comment immediately made Edmund and Ethan give him sharp looks. Helios cleared his throat and raised both hands in the air. "I mean, try to think about it carefully. A man is seduced by a beautiful woman who has the divine power he desires. Gabriel Brown will definitely fall into the trap that the Duchess has set. After all, what man wouldn’t be tempted if a beautiful and sexy woman approached them?"
"Me!" Edmund and Ethan shouted and pointed at themselves.
Helios snorted.
"That’s because you guys turn stupid when you love someone."
"Penny, I won’t let you do that." Edmund snorted. The man crossed his arms. "Do you think I would let you tempt Gabriel Brown even if it was to get him into a trap? Hell, even I would never allow you to flirt with any man other than me!"
"Ed, don’t be childish."
"Huh?!" Edmund blinked. "This isn’t childish, Penny! There is no husband in this world who wants to see his wife flirting with other men!"
"I know." Penelope nodded. "But, I did this so that our plan would succeed. Besides, wasn’t I fine when I see you being seduced by Elisha Brown?"
"Those two things are very different, Penny. Elisha Brown seduced me because—"
"Sebastian De Louis told her to make both of us separate," said Penelope, finishing Edmund’s sentence. "See? They do this to make us fall into a trap. So, what’s the difference between me and Elisha Brown?"
Edmund groaned in annoyance and looked down. He knew he wouldn’t be able to refuse Penelope’s request. But....
"Please, hm?" Penelope looked at Edmund with puppy eyes. The woman gripped Edmund’s hands tightly. "I just want to help. If I can’t help in the fight, at least let me help with the search for information."
Edmund looked at Penelope. That beautiful face... somehow Edmund could never win against her. Finally, Edmund nodded with a groan. Seeing that, Penelope smiled brightly and immediately hugged Edmund’s neck.
"See?" Helios looked at Jeremy and Edgar, who had been watching this for a long time. "I told you that Duke Edmund and Prince Ethan are stupid men when they are faced with their women."
