Ethan Askary, Isabella Lysander, and Helios Rune Abelavish came to Gerwyn’s mansion without prior notice to Edmund Gerwyn and Penelope Askary.
Of course, Jeremy came along because he had to always be by his master’s side. He had to protect Helios even if his life was at stake. They came to Gerwyn’s mansion using Helios’ teleportation magic. After greeting Evan, who almost fainted because he was shocked by them, Evan took them straight to Edmund’s study.
"Hello, Duke Edmund!"
Edmund raised his head from the files he was working on and clicked his tongue in annoyance when he saw Helios’ annoying face. Maybe the Crown Prince of the Abelavish empire always helped him when he needed help but Edmund still felt annoyed with the man because he still liked Penelope Askary. Even though Helios didn’t do unreasonable things like Philleo Aaron and Sebastian De Louis to take Penelope away from him, Edmund still didn’t like the fact that Helios liked his wife.
"What are you doing in my study, you annoying people?" asked Edmund in a lazy tone. "Can’t you see that I’m busy working on reports about the Duchy and also about the case of the appearance of those terrifying monsters? Not to mention Elisha Brown, who almost killed Penny."
Hearing that, Ethan and everyone froze and widened their eyes. Ethan immediately ran toward Edmund and grabbed him by the collar until the Duke stood up. Edmund remained calm. He had expected Ethan to react like this.
"Are you saying Elisha Brown almost killed Penny?" asked Ethan in a sharp tone. "Edmund, why didn’t I know about this?!"
"Because you were busy looking after your woman in the Abelavish empire so you didn’t pay attention to your own little sister," snorted Edmund. The man jerked Ethan’s hands away from his collar and glanced at Isabella. For some reason, after hearing Penelope and Goddess Elleia’s story about Isabella Lysander in his previous life, Edmund felt annoyed and angry with the woman. Even though currently Isabella didn’t know anything and she was a good woman, in her previous life, that woman had made Penelope suffer.
Apparently, Edmund’s behavior attracted the attention of Ethan, Helios, and Jeremy. The three men looked at each other and Ethan frowned.
"Edmund, why do you look like you hate Isabella?" asked Ethan in a firm tone. "What happened?"
"That’s just your imagination," answered Edmund. "So, what’s wrong? Why did all of you come uninvited to my mansion?"
"There’s something I want to talk about with you but I’ll postpone it. For now, I want to know what happened between Penny and Elisha Brown. Where is my little sister now?"
"She is resting with the twins in my room," answered Edmund. The Duke massaged the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath. "You know that Elisha Brown wants to seduce me and take me away from Penny, right?"
Ethan nodded. He had learned about this information from Penelope and Edmund several weeks ago. They also suspect that Elisha is supported by Sebastian De Louis.
"A few days ago, Elisha came to this mansion to put an item that had been given black magic to bewitch me so that I would leave Penny," explained Edmund. "That thing can make me see her as Penny and see Penny as her. Penny knew that it had black magic thanks to her divine power. Then, Elisha and Penny fight. Elisha injured Penny and almost killed her."
"That damn woman! I will teach her a lesson for daring to touch my little sister!" Ethan growled.
Edmund snorted and shook his head in disbelief. "You’re apparently very busy in the Abelavish empire, huh? Busy taking care of that woman instead of your own little sister. Elisha Brown and her family had been sentenced to death by the Emperor for possession of objects related to black magic. However, the Emperor allowed Gabriel Brown to live because the man was the head priest."
"Then, I want to meet Penny right now," said Ethan. "Isabel really misses Penny too."
Edmund was silent. He hesitated whether to allow Penelope to meet Isabella considering that the woman had just learned a painful fact from her previous life. However, Edmund knew that his wife would definitely be angry with him if he forbade Isabella to meet her. Because Penelope never asked Edmund to forbid Isabella from seeing her.
"Wait a moment," said Edmund. He called out to Chris and the shadow knight immediately appeared before everyone. Then, the Duke gave orders to Chris to pick up Penelope and take her to the living room. "Let’s talk casually in another room," continued Edmund. "I’ll tell Sarah to bring sweets and tea."
After tidying up the files on his desk, Edmund took his guests to another room. There, Penelope Askary was waiting along with Raven and Ocean. The woman stood up from the sofa and smiled broadly at Ethan. Then, she ran toward her older brother and immediately hugged him. Ethan chuckled and caressed his little sister’s hair affectionately.
"Older brother! I miss you!" Penelope looked up to look at Ethan. "How are you? Are you okay?" Penelope then glanced at Isabella. The woman smiled at him. "Did Older Brother treat Isabella well?"
"Of course. Do you really think I will treat Isabel badly?" Ethan grumbled. The man pinched his little sister’s cheeks lightly, making Penelope chuckle. "I’ve heard the story from Edmund about Elisha Brown. Why didn’t you tell me about this, Penny?"
Penelope shrugged her shoulders and waved her hand. She invited everyone to sit down. The woman chose to sit next to Isabella and hugged Isabella from the side.
"I don’t want to bother Older Brother. Besides, you still have to rest because of Sebastian’s attack at that time, right?" Penelope looked at Helios. "Hi, Your Highness. May Elleia’s light always be with you."
"It feels very nice to get a direct blessing from a Saintess, who was hand-picked by Goddess Elleia," said Helios with a laugh. "I’m glad you’re okay, Duchess."
"I was just lucky." Penelope looked at Isabella. She smiled sweetly. "So, what’s the matter with you guys suddenly coming to visit me?"
"Isabel and I want to take you on a date, Penny," Ethan answered. Automatically, Penelope and the others looked at the man. "I want to make you and Isabel have some fun. You two have faced many dangerous things and your lives are always at stake. I want this date to heal both of your mental health. Originally, I just wanted this date to be attended by me, Isabel, you, and your husband. But, His Highness Helios suddenly came and said he wanted to come with us." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Jeremy took a deep breath and looked down at Penelope. "I apologize, Duchess, because my master always interferes in your affairs."
"I no longer care about anything His Highness Helios does," grumbled Edmund. "That man always does as he pleases. Telling him to be quiet will only stress me out and make my blood boil."
"Aw, thanks, Duke," Helios said in a pleased tone. "I’m so flattered to hear that."
Edmund snorted and shook his head.
"That’s a really good idea, Older Brother!" Penelope exclaimed excitedly. She looked at Edmund. "Ed, we can go with them, right? I can have fun with Isabel! I want to chat with Isabel about everything, whether it’s fashion, jewelry, dresses that have just appeared in famous boutiques, as well as matters of love."
Isabella blinked and the woman laughed. Ethan smiled when he saw it. He was happy because Isabella could smile again.
"Whatever you want you can do that, Honey." Edmund smiled gently at Penelope, then glanced at Isabella with a sharp glance. He clenched his fists at his sides.
"I’m sure I took a good look at you this time," Ethan said suddenly, making Penelope and the others look at him. The man stared sharply at Edmund. "You seem to really hate Isabel. What’s wrong, Edmund? Do you have a problem with Isabel? If Isabel has made you angry in the past, just say so. I’m sure Isabel wouldn’t mind hearing that either and she would definitely apologize if she did something to make you angry."
Isabella nodded even though she didn’t understand this situation. Meanwhile, Penelope sighed and smiled faintly. She knew why Edmund was acting like this toward Isabella. The woman stood up and took her husband’s hand.
"Do you guys mind if I talk to my husband for a moment?" Penelope asked. "I’m sure this is just a simple misunderstanding. I will solve this with my husband."
Ethan and the others nodded. When Penelope left the room with Ethan, the woman crossed her arms and tilted her head. She looked at Edmund for an explanation. Meanwhile, Edmund looked away.
"I know you’re still thinking about the events of our previous lives," said Penelope. "But, Ed, you also know that Isabella Lysander who existed in her previous life and Isabella Lysander who is in front of us right now are two different people, right?"
"She made you suffer."
"Not in this life," Penelope replied.
Edmund gritted his teeth. "She made me leave you and made me kill you!"
"Ed," Penelope called in a soft tone. She immediately hugged Edmund, making the Duke close his eyes and rub his face with one hand. "Forget the past. Just like I have forgotten that incident when I decided to marry you because I love you."
Edmund was silent.
His anger and hatred for Isabella would not be so easily removed, even if Penelope asked him to.
