In the restaurant that had been rented by the Crown Prince, everyone was looking at Penelope Askary with worried looks.

The blue-haired woman was silent. Her eyes stared blankly at the table and she didn’t drink the tea in her hand at all. The cup was simply held in her lap. This made Ethan even more worried. The light and warmth in his little sister’s golden eyes disappeared. This was even worse than when Penelope woke up after her carriage accident. Ethan gripped his beloved little sister’s hand tightly after he took the cup in Penelope’s hand and put it on the table.

"Penny," Ethan called softly. He smiled warmly. His left hand then reached out, caressing Penelope’s blue hair gently. "Penny, Sweetheart, what’s wrong with you? Do you feel pain in your body? Is something bothering you? Tell me, Penny. I would do anything for you, as long as you smile again. I can’t see you like this. My heart hurts, Penny."

However, Penelope remained silent. Her petite body was still trembling. Her heart was still beating so hard, it made her suffocate. Ethan had almost given up and decided to carry Penelope onto the carriage to take her home when suddenly the woman turned to look at him. Not only Ethan, but also Edmund, Sebastian, Philleo, and Sarah, froze when they saw Penelope crying again. The tears fell down her soft white cheeks. Penelope bit her lip tightly, so the sound of her sobbing wouldn’t disturb everyone. So that the pain in her bitten lip could make the fear inside her disappear.

"Brother..." Penelope called in a tired tone.

Ethan clenched his jaw and bit his lip. His heart ached even more, to see Penelope react like this.

"Mmm. I’m here. You can rest easy, Penny. I’m here to protect you. Until whenever I will always protect you. Even if you don’t need your brother anymore, even if you become a grandmother, I will still be your brother who will protect you." Ethan smiled gently at Penelope who continued to cry silently. Just let the tears fall down her pretty face. Ethan reached out and wiped the tears off Penelope’s face. "Therefore, stop crying. Hmm? I can’t see you sad and crying like this, Penny."

Edmund Gerwyn clenched his fists at his sides. His blue eyes never left Penelope. Like an eagle watching its prey. What exactly happened at the boutique earlier, to make Penelope become like this? What did Isabella Lysander do to Penelope, to make Penelope cry in fear like this? It felt strange if a woman as kind and gentle as Isabella could say bad things or do something bad to Penelope, whereas Penelope had always been bullying Isabella.

Sebastian De Louis also thought the same thing as Edmund Gerwyn. When he heard Penelope crying and saying she would never bother Isabella Lysander again, it was as if she was telling them that Isabella had been bullying Penelope. And that is impossible. If Penelope had made Isabella cry in fear, then Sebastian would have believed it.

On the other hand, Philleo Aaron’s expression was cold. His eyes stared flatly at Penelope. Even though his heart hurt seeing Penelope like this, the anger inside him made Philleo unable to think straight.

"Should I kill Isabella Lysander, My Lady?" asked the man in a cold tone, making Penelope flinch and look directly at Philleo. The man looks serious. Then Penelope’s golden eyes turned to Edmund Gerwyn and Sebastian De Louis. Both of them had scary expressions. Their eyes glared coldly and sharply at Philleo.

"What are you talking about, Philleo Aaron?" asked Sebastian in a sharp tone. The man stood up and approached Philleo who was still staring at Penelope. "You dare say you’re going to kill Isabella Lysander? Do you want to hurt the woman I care about? Do you have a death wish? Do you want me to kill you right now?"

"Although I don’t know what happened between Penelope Askary and Isabella Lysander, your words have crossed the line, Philleo Aaron," said Edmund. "You can’t kill a weak woman who doesn’t even do anything."

Hearing the Crown Prince and Edmund defend Isabella, it was evident that the two men loved Isabella, just like in the original novel. Penelope felt it was pointless if she said Isabella had insulted her or bullied her. The two of them definitely wouldn’t believe it. Not that Isabella did those bad things to her. This is just Penelope’s opinion.

But, she wouldn’t allow those two men, nor anyone else, to look down on her people! In this world, the only ones on her side were her family and her people in the duchy.

"Enough!" Penelope shouted.

The woman’s scream made everyone freeze. They looked directly at Penelope. The expression on her face changed. Her pale face was red now. Red because of her anger. Her golden eyes looked cold and sharp. Her hands clenched at her sides as Penelope rose from her chair. She shot Edmund and Sebastian an angry look. That made Sebastian raise an eyebrow, feeling confused by Penelope’s current anger. Meanwhile, Edmund didn’t know how to react. He was worried about Penelope’s condition, it was true. But, seeing that beautiful blue-haired woman get angry just for wanting to defend a lowly knight like Philleo Aaron for the umpteenth time, made Edmund angry. Very angry and offended.

What is so good about Philleo Aaron’s? Why is Penelope always defending Philleo? Why did their closeness make Edmund always feel annoyed?

"Don’t you two dare to insult and belittle Philleo Aaron or any of my people," Penelope growled.

Maybe this isn’t the first time Penelope Askary has been angry. Because in the original novel, the woman is described as a woman who can’t control her emotions at all. However, in the eyes of Edmund Gerwyn and Sebastian De Louis, Penelope Askary’s current anger was different from before. In the past, Penelope was always angry if she couldn’t get what she wanted. But now, she was angry because she stood up for her people.

"Philleo Aaron is my knight. He said that to defend me and protect me. If I explained Isabella Lysander didn’t do anything, then Philleo Aaron would understand and wouldn’t hurt that woman. So, you don’t have to insult him!"

"You always stick up for him," said Edmund in a cold, mocking tone. He smiled coldly. "I’m suspicious of you, Penelope Askary. Maybe every night, you summon your knight into your room to—"

When he heard that, Ethan was furious. He had risen from his chair, preparing to throw his gloves toward Edmund’s face to challenge him to a duel, but the man stopped and widened his eyes as he froze in his place. Not only Ethan, but also Sebastian De Louis, Philleo Aaron, and Sarah stared at what was happening in front of them.

Before Edmund Gerwyn could finish his words, Penelope Askary had already guessed what the man was going to say. The golden-eyed woman grew angrier and approached Edmund. Then, using all her strength, Penelope raised her hand and slapped Edmund hard on the cheek! Edmund’s head was pushed to the side. The man’s cheeks hurt and his ears were ringing. Edgar, Edmund’s loyal knight, looked down and looked away. He was supposed to protect Edmund. However, he didn’t want to interfere in the problem between Edmund and Penelope, because Edgar knew Edmund would not like it. Edgar also felt that Edmund’s words just now had gone too far. However, Edgar would not have expressed his opinion if Edmund had not asked him to.

Meanwhile, Penelope was trying to control her anger. The woman panted, trying to catch her breath due to the anger that overtook her. Her right hand hurt from just slapping Edmund on the cheek. Her palms must be red by now. But Penelope didn’t care.

"You dare to slap me?" asked Edmund in a flat tone. He held his cheek and looked at Penelope with an unreadable look. The atmosphere in the restaurant grew colder because of the current argument between Edmund and Penelope. Even the Crown Prince was speechless because he was shocked to see Penelope who dared to slap Edmund. "Penelope Askary, did you slap me just because you wanted to defend that lowly knight of yours?"

Philleo Aaron looked at Penelope in disbelief. His heart felt very happy and felt warm because Penelope had defended him like this. The man smiled shyly, making Sebastian, who saw him, click his tongue in annoyance. The source of the problem between Edmund and Penelope is Philleo Aaron. Above all of that, why would Edmund be jealous of a knight like that?

Wait a minute. Sebastian tilted his head and frowned. Is Edmund Gerwyn jealous? Isn’t jealousy a sign that someone loves the opposite sex? So, Edmund wasn’t just interested in Penelope, but fell in love with the blue-haired woman? Sebastian took a deep breath and shook his head. No, no. For now, such a thing doesn’t really matter.

"Jade," Sebastian called out to one of the imperial knights. "Get Philleo Aaron out of here. He’s the source of the problem between Duke Edmund and Princess Penelope."

"Yes, Your Majesty." Jade bowed and immediately carried out the order from Sebastian. At first, Philleo didn’t want to be taken out because he wanted to stay with Penelope to protect the woman who had defended him. But, Ethan told Philleo to follow Jade as this was the Crown Prince’s order.

Meanwhile, Penelope had forgotten all her fears for Edmund Gerwyn. "I told you already, His Highness Duke Edmund. Don’t you ever insult and belittle Philleo Aaron because that man is my people! I will fight anyone, I will hurt anyone if they hurt my people!"

"Are you not afraid of me?" asked Edmund coldly. His blue eyes were piercing, intending to intimidate Penelope and frighten her. "I am the cruelest man in this empire, Penelope Askary. I can kill you right now because you dared to slap me."

"His Highness Duke Edmund—" Ethan was already preparing to help Penelope and protect her from Edmund when Sebastian interrupted his words just now.

"Edmund, stop it," said Sebastian in a firm tone. He approached Edmund and held his shoulder from the side. However, Edmund jerked the Crown Prince’s hand from his shoulder. Edmund’s action made Sebastian groan in annoyance and massage his temples. "Edmund Gerwyn, you dare to go against my orders?"

Edmund clenched his jaw. He was really mad at Penelope. He didn’t accept that the beautiful woman in front of him chose Philleo Aaron over him. Edmund didn’t want Penelope to be afraid of him, but Edmund didn’t want Penelope to go against him even more because of that lowly knight!

"My business with you is not finished, Penelope Askary." Edmund gave a warning. "You will regret having dared to defend that man instead of being on my side."

"Did you just threaten my younger sister, His Highness Duke Edmund?" asked Ethan with a growl. "You know that I won’t just sit idly by if you dare to touch and hurt my sister, right?"

"You again," Edmund laughed mockingly and snorted. "You are just like that lowly knight, little Duke. You are nothing to me. Even if I fight both of you at once, I’m sure I’ll come out as the winner."

"Enough, Edmund Gerwyn!" Penelope shouted. She approached Edmund, stood very close to the handsome man, and looked up to meet Edmund’s piercing blue eyes. "You’ve already crossed your lines! Now you even insulted my big brother! You have a problem with me, Edmund Gerwyn," Penelope growled. The woman pointed at Edmund’s face. "So don’t bother my big brother and my people anymore!" Penelope didn’t even use formal language anymore when talking to Edmund.

"A weak little woman like you to dare to fight me is both ridiculous and pathetic, Penelope Askary. That is proof that the men around you can do nothing to protect you and instead become the ones to be protected," said Edmund in a mocking tone.

Sebastian De Louis growled in his place. This gave him a headache. "Edmund Gerwyn! Should I use force to make you stop? Should I give you punishment for daring to go against my orders? Do you want me to give you a house arrest or something worse than that?"

Edmund was silent, but he still looked into Penelope’s golden eyes. Then, the man grabbed Penelope’s waist, causing everyone to widen their eyes. Edmund hugged Penelope and whispered, "I’m much better than that lowly knight of yours, Penelope Askary. I’m sure, I will be more able to satisfy you in bed."

Penelope Askary clenched her jaw and immediately pushed Edmund’s body.

"Brother Ethan, I want to go home!"

Ethan blinked and nodded. "Yes! Let’s go home." The man led Penelope. The people from the Askary family came out of the restaurant. Leaving Edmund Gerwyn who clicked his tongue and combed his hair using his fingers.

"You’re so childish," Sebastian De Louis mocked him. "Your anger was provoked at the mere words of a woman. So pathetic." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Shut up," Edmund Gerwyn growled, looking at the Crown Prince with an irritated look. "I’m in a bad mood, Tian. That woman... I would never let Penelope Askary slip away from my grasp. I will make her realize that I am better than Philleo Aaron!"
