Chapter 85: Crystal’s Watchers

He rubbed his temple. "And that crystal, what crystal is it? He also mentioned something about the demon lord arriving in the human realm. That’s going to be bad."

As he sat there, lost in thought, a knock came at the door. Rowan stood and opened it to find Neville standing there.

"Hey, what are you doing here? And how did you find my room?" Rowan asked.

"Well, my room is just in front of yours. I saw my name and yours, so it was easy to find," Neville replied. "Once I found mine, I already knew yours."

"Oh," Rowan said with a small smile. "Come in."

Neville nodded, and they both walked into Rowan’s room.

"Wow, your room is actually more spacious than mine," Neville said as he looked around. "And you even have a sword hanging here."

"Yes, I do," Rowan said. "So, tell me, why did you come? Is there something you wanted to ask?"

"Well, nothing special," Neville replied. "I just wanted to know why you left the bed so early. It looked like you were enjoying it, but then you suddenly walked away."

"Oh, I just felt a surge in my stomach. Nothing more than that," Rowan said casually.

Neville’s eyes lit up. "Oh, really? So you’ve actually learned how to release your aura. I wanted to ask, could you teach me? I’m capable of releasing it, but I can’t sustain it. I can’t control it the way you do. And even though I’m a sword saint like you, our aura colors are different. Mine is normal, but yours seems stronger, or maybe just easier to control?"

"You’re right," Rowan said thoughtfully. "Maybe that’s why it’s easier for me to release it. But go ahead. Release your aura. I want to see it."

Neville nodded, focusing, as a faint glow began to radiate from him.

As Neville released his aura, it grew stronger, energy surging around him. The artifact hanging nearby fell neatly to the ground.

"Wow, impressive," Rowan said, eyes widening. The aura shimmered green, layered with multiple colors, clearly that of a sword saint.

"Yes, it does," Neville replied, nodding. "So, what can I do to sustain it?"

Rowan thought for a moment. "Well, I’m not entirely sure myself, but if you want to try, start with your body. Your core is strong, but it needs to be stronger. Do more physical exercises: push-ups, training that builds endurance. Second, practice releasing mana from a single point in your body, even faintly at first. Your palm, your fingers, just maintain it there. Then try to keep it steady in one pattern of your body for longer periods. Small steps."

Neville listened intently.

"The third step, I’m not sure how effective it is, but it’s worth trying," Rowan continued. "You have to believe in yourself, really believe you can do it."

"How do you know all this?" Neville asked, curiosity in his eyes.

"I had a trainer before I came here," Rowan said. "That’s why I know, and why I’m trying to help."

"Thanks," Neville said with a nod. "Looks like I’ll start by strengthening my body first. I’ll do some exercise and training."

"You’ll be fine," Rowan said with a small smile.

"Thanks. I’ll head back to my room now," Neville said, walking toward the door across from Rowan’s room. He waved as he entered, then closed the door and locked it behind him.

The following day, as Rowan woke up, he put on his belt, got dressed, and packed his bag with books. Once ready, he waited by the door.

When he opened it, he saw Elian standing there in her teacher uniform, carrying a lunchbox.

"Master, good morning. It’s good to see you. I’m sure you’re starving. Take this with you to eat when you reach your class," she said, offering the lunchbox.

"Oh, good morning, and thank you," Rowan replied, taking it from her as she walked beside him.

From the boys’ dorm, several students watched him.

"Hey, what’s he doing with that lady? And why is she even here?" one whispered.

"She’s a teacher," another replied. "Not for our school, but for the Mage section."

"Ha, now they keep blabbing just like yesterday," a third muttered.

Rowan closed his eyes and walked on, ignoring them. As he and Elian departed, she waved, and he waved back. She headed toward the Mage building, and Rowan continued to his own.

"Hey, wait! Wait! Wait!" Rowan heard behind him. He turned to see Neville running up.

"Can’t we just go together? I knocked on your door after I got dressed, but it was already locked. Didn’t you see we were supposed to head to school together?" Neville said, slightly out of breath.

"Well, we didn’t talk about that," Rowan replied calmly.

"Oh, really? Well, let’s just get going then," Neville said, falling in step beside him as they started walking.

The other students were already flooding the school halls. Rowan made his way to his locker, opening it briefly just to check that everything was in place before closing it again.

With that done, he and Neville headed toward their classroom.

As Rowan entered the room and walked toward his seat, he noticed Velqira staring at him from across the room.

Rowan went to his seat and sat down, bringing out some of his books and placing them neatly on the table. I wonder what I’m going to learn today, he thought.

Just then, the teacher walked into the classroom.

"Everyone, please take your seats," he said. "I am Korazen, your teacher. I possess the blessing of a Sword Lord, and today I will be teaching you the fundamentals of battle, as well as tactics to use when exploring dungeons and fighting monsters."

"And not only that," Korazen continued, "there are swordmen here who are not truly skilled in using their swords to fight. Even if you are blessed as a swordsman, you should still be capable of fighting and slaying monsters. And I hear there are even Sword Saints here."
