Reincarnation in the 60s: My Spatial Supermarket Brings Forth Wealth-Chapter 257: Buying a Sewing Machine
"Stop messing around and quickly get the luggage inside! Xiao Li is in a hurry to get back!" Lin Xue followed off the car, feeling pretty good after sleeping all the way. She hadn’t been here in a while and had really missed it.
"Alright, alright! I’m on it!" Lin Xia swiftly started unloading the luggage.
Lin Xue opened the courtyard gate but didn’t think of letting anyone drive inside. She preferred to stay low-key and avoid letting too many people know about her.
This was her old nest, and there were quite a few good things inside. Xiao Li was Mayor Guo’s driver, and it wouldn’t be good for her to know too much.
"Mr. Lin, let me help you move the luggage inside!" Seeing the three beautiful women struggling with their luggage, Xiao Li couldn’t bear it and offered to help.
"Comrade Xiao Li, no need. We’ll move it in right away, just wait a moment! We’ll get something to eat at the State-Owned Restaurant soon since it’s almost lunchtime!" Lin Xue waved her hand to decline, but she couldn’t let him leave with an empty stomach, they had to at least treat him to a meal.
She decided to take Xiao Li to eat at the State-Owned Restaurant, inviting him into the house didn’t seem proper with the three of them being girls.
"This... let me help move it into the courtyard, then you can take it inside yourselves! There’s quite a lot!" Xiao Li insisted on helping, blushing slightly.
Seeing Lin Yun frequently rubbing her arm, Lin Xue eventually relented and let Xiao Li help with the moving.
The majority of it was Lin Yun’s stuff, two big bags full of all sorts of fabrics, along with decorations, buttons, design notebooks, scissors, and other tools.
It was a hot day. After the three of them laboriously moved everything inside, Lin Xue didn’t wait for her two sisters to take a good look at the house and pushed them out after locking the door.
"Big Sis, is this big house in the courtyard also yours?" Lin Xia asked quietly, unable to contain her excitement and curiosity.
She knew her big sis had money, but she didn’t expect her to have so much, to actually be able to buy such a small western-style building in the county. The courtyard was so big, probably two or three times larger than the houses in the town. Moreover, there was a large three-room house in the courtyard.
She had never lived in a building before, and now she didn’t want to eat anything but just to admire the small western-style building.
She had only glanced at it hastily before, but the furniture inside nearly stopped her in her tracks.
She had never seen that style of house before and was filled with shock and delight.
Lin Yun wasn’t much better; her character meant that no matter how shocked or surprised she was, she wouldn’t express it like her sister. Those who didn’t understand her couldn’t see the internal turmoil she was experiencing.
"Yes, the whole courtyard is mine! Alright, stop asking; let’s go eat!" Lin Xue pulled her two sisters up onto Xiao Li’s car with a light touch.
The four of them arrived at the State-Owned Restaurant. It wasn’t quite mealtime yet, but there were already a few tables of people waiting since it was almost lunchtime.
Lin Xia went ahead to check out today’s offerings, and the dishes were quite good, better than those at the town’s State-Owned Restaurant.
There were white bread rolls available, as well as mixed stew, braised pork, stir-fried green peppers with dried tofu, and tofu with scallions.
There wasn’t any pure rice available, only mixed rice, so Lin Xia didn’t order rice. She took out her food coupons and money, bought fifteen big buns, and got a portion of each of the four dishes.
Though there weren’t many dishes, they were in generous portions. The four dishes offered a balanced mix of meat and vegetables, incorporating stir-fried, stewed, and cold-mix dishes — just right.
While it might not compare to the food at home, at that time, being able to eat such meals was already quite good.
The buns were especially large. Lin Xue was full after just one, Lin Xia ate one and a half, Lin Yun didn’t finish one, and Xiao Li ate two, but they felt Xiao Li wasn’t full.
So they packed the leftovers and handed them to Xiao Li, saying he could eat them on the road if he got hungry.
Xiao Li initially refused, but Lin Xue said they were going to browse the department store later, so they couldn’t carry buns around. Xiao Li knew this was just an excuse but was still touched and accepted.
Back then, being able to eat a meal with white flour buns was something only affluent families could afford during the New Year.
Even though he was now the mayor’s driver, his family was still in the countryside, and living conditions were poor, usually only half-full every day. These nine big buns could provide a fine meal for his entire family, so he wouldn’t bear eating them alone on the road; he would take them back home.
After seeing Xiao Li off, the three sisters planned to browse the county’s department store and get Lin Yun’s sewing machine.
There were still a few days left before school started, and Lin Yun would get anxious without a sewing machine during that time.
"Big sis, how are we going to get the sewing machine back once we buy it?" Lin Yun had sewing machines on her mind and was considering this as they approached the department store.
"They’ll deliver it!" Lin Xue replied dismissively.
"Will they really deliver it for us?" Lin Xia doubted.
The store clerks always acted superior; would they really offer home delivery? They probably wouldn’t.
"There are ways to get them to deliver; come on, we’re here!" Lin Xue led her sisters into the department store.
The county’s department store was two stories; quite spacious. The first floor sold food and daily necessities, while the second floor had bigger items and clothing.
This meant the first floor was busier, while the second floor saw fewer customers as not everyone could afford to buy big items and clothes frequently.
The three sisters first took a lap around the first floor. Lin Xia couldn’t resist buying some cookies and candies.
Lin Xue could only facepalm. This girl wasn’t picky; the food she usually gave them was more refined and delicious than what was sold here, but this girl still couldn’t resist snacks when she saw them.
Symbolically, she also bought some vegetables, fruits, and a bit of meat.
The county had a good supply of meat, available even at midday.
With everything in hand, they headed upstairs, planning to head straight home after purchasing the sewing machine, hence buying everything they needed beforehand.
This, however, caught the attention of the second-floor clerks. As they passed by the fabric and clothing area, the clerks advised Lin Xue to be careful not to brush the items against her clothes.
Nonetheless, seeing how the three were dressed, a few of the girls glanced more than once, clustered together discussing something, occasionally sizing them up.
Lin Xue paid no mind, carrying their meat and vegetables, leading her sisters to the sewing machine counter.
"Excuse me, are you looking to buy a sewing machine?" A woman in her early twenties inquired quite seriously.
She wasn’t particularly dedicated but had worked as a clerk in the department store for years, leading her to develop a knack for spotting wealth. She could see these three girls were well-off, so she treated them more favorably.
If not, her temper wasn’t great; encountering those who couldn’t afford but still wanted to look, asking all sorts of questions, she would either give them a harsh glare or directly drive them away.
"Yes! We’re buying a sewing machine. How much is it?" Lin Xue stated her intention straightforwardly. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
After all, there weren’t many choices now. The machines on display were but a few; she’d let Xiao Yun try it out. If there were no issues, they’d just buy it and be done.
