Reincarnated in the game world ~ A gamer's beginning to [Dungeon job hunting recommendation]-Chapter 663Vol. 11 - - Approaching Finale - One Last Attempt of Temple Saber
New Event: Global Dungeons Daily Releases
Chapter
The new helm of Temple Saber set their eyes on «Southeast Giant Castle».
I, including myself, led a seven-member resistance group against them, albeit at a slower approach, and let them approach the target.
We met a counter from them as soon as we arrived. The two members of Temple Saber continued to launch their offensive against Giant Castle, meanwhile three of them stepped up to intercept us.
They didn't lead any offensive, instead they created a defensive formation. It appears they're trying to minimize the risk of eliminating more than trying to force us out of the match.
We faced them with similar momentum, taking a tepid approach instead of jumping at them. We were stalling. Why? Well, Temple Saber wasn't the only one who had their eyes on it. We're waiting. —While they went after the big fish, our objective was their base.
It appeared the remaining two members of Temple Saber—only five of them had charged here, leaving the remaining count to protect their base—resisted by creating protection barrier formation to hinder our invasion. Alas, their achilles heel lay in their numbers.
The counter-offensive group of Eden, led by Sierra, pulled themselves from the seam of the formation, and took a detour down the south, circling around them.
The defenders naturally see through their plan. Temple Saber was fast. They promptly chased after them. They went the other way to intercept them, and exhausted themselves to halt the attacker's advances, but that's where their limit approached.
After all, the attacking group had five members with advanced jobs, including Lana.
Outnumbered, the two defenders were forced back, and exploiting a cinch in their broken stance, Karua first took down one of them. The battlefield was now within the opponent's domain, near the base. Unsurprisingly, at the 7 minutes and 29 seconds mark, attackers brought down the fort.
***
"We did it!!"
"You're splendid, Lana-sama!" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
«Zephyr-san, the operation has been successful.»
"Woah, that's great!!"
Any Giant Castle held by any team would transfer to their opponent should they succeed in toppling their base.
I felt a teensy bit of sorry for them. They'd worked hard with just two members, and just when they'd brought down the Giant Castle at last, the red castle was dyed in white a moment later. It was like they'd ended up making a wedding dress for their opponent. The shock was enough to send the person in-charge in a state of trance for a moment.
Plus, since they'd lost their base, they'd have to temporarily return to their base at least once as the rules were, and wait for two minutes before resuming the match.
A field this big could easily take a minimum of two minutes just to return to the base. So, whenever any base is down, the scattered members of either team would be teleported back to their base 20 seconds after.
And lo and behold, a teleportation circle appeared beneath us, and we found ourselves back in our base.
To put in conclusion, we were ahead by 8,060P. The opponent only had six squares in their base, and no Giant Castle. The match was approaching its end, with 7 minutes and 9 seconds left. And calculating two minute cooldown—including twenty seconds since the red's base was down—the match would resume at 5 minutes and 29 seconds.
There was nothing left to say. Our victory was now inevitable, unless Temple Saber could bring down our base. And I was expecting them to. It was the only chance they'd for the grand reversal.
"Immediately inform everyone of our strategy. We're going to stop them with protection barrier formation. Rina, show everyone the bookmark."
«Understood! «Guild Chain Bookmark!»
Two minutes later, having regrouped and informing everyone our next move, we emerged from our base.
To no one's surprise, as soon as the cooldown was lifted, our opponent jumped out of their base, and sprinted in... our direction.
We prepared by, well, doing nothing. We simply wait for their arrival.
"Alright then, time to lay out our last work. We will begin at the mark of 3 minutes and 50 seconds. Are you all ready?"
"Of course!"
I addressed everyone, announcing the last act of the Duel. Now, it was time for us to showcase our defense prowess.
The opponent could approach us from any direction. Since the main strongholds had eight empty squares in total around, leaving an unobstructed landscape, the opposite guild had free reign in the route they could take.
This was the most difficult aspect of the base's defense. You couldn't guess which direction the opponent might swoop in.
So then, how were we going to confront them? We were going with a classic solution—the two minute protection period defense line. We would put every square in the base's vicinity into a buffer period.
Now then, by doing that, there would be two spots inevitably left behind that couldn't be put into protection period.
Back at the starting of the match, we had cleared squares into two directions—western square route leading to «Northwest Giant Castle», and the southeast square route leading to «Southeast Giant Castle».
The rule stated square's protection period couldn't be triggered by the same team consecutively. With that rule in action, the aforementioned directions were defenseless. And that's how, it was pretty much clear to us which direction our opponent would take.
So, all we had to do was wait for the signal. And then, the countdown hit 3 minutes and 50 seconds.
«Everyone, bring sub-adjacent squares down!»
Rina's cue rang in everyone's ear.
The sub-adjacent squares were squares adjacent to adjacent square. Or, to put it more simply, the square in the vicinity of two squares next to the base.
The members, who had been assigned the part, spread out promptly. There were a total of 16 sub-adjacent squares, and reducing the two already belonging to our guild, that left 14 of them to take down.
We were lacking a bit of manpower to quickly sweep them, but fortunately, Temple Saber had yet to arrive so it gave us just enough time to complete.
Our defense line was completed. And just at the predicted time, the five knights of Temple Saber made their way. They're taking... the southeast side.
Immediately, we also gather our firepower in that direction.
"Lana, blast them out!"
"My speciality! —«Saintess's prayer for healing»! —«Sacred Shining Sabres»!"
We started with a ranged attack from Lana. She was definitely the go-to for interception from range.
It didn't put a dent on our opponent, however. They're advanced job holders, and they defend with their skills.
Lana continued to bombard them with one magic after another, however neither made a direct contact. Uh-huh, I feared that much. Then again, we managed to slow them down, cornering them further into a race against time.
We only had to hold our defensive line until the time up.
"Captain Ruce! They've put every square into a protection period!"
"There's only one spot left to infiltrate it appears."
"They're too good for freshmen, truly."
I strained my ears to listen to their conversation. Well, to be precise, they're talking in loud voices over the hooving sounds so I didn't have to put effort.
I see. They just didn't know there's also an opening in the west. Shizu and Pamela had been dispatched to guard that spot, but it appears it was for vain. A pity.
"Prepare for confrontation! «Charge»!"
"Chargeeee!!" x3
The other side opted out for charge skill.
"Sierra, Lacritta, and Rika. Stop them!"
"Very well."
"I, I will do my best!"
"As you command."
"Lacritta, take the front. Use your unique skill."
"Pon! Unique Skill—«Phantasmal Shield of Tower»!"
A simple fort like construct materialised. This particular unique skill started as a solid manifestation, and gradually faded away the more damage it takes. It was effective against basic job skills, but there wasn't much to do against advanced jobs, and that's what happened.
The opponent burst through without breaking into sweat. However their momentum had considerably dropped. It was just what I had wanted. The first of our tasks was to stop the opponent's attempt to break through.
"«Cover Shield»!"
"«Twin Slash - Crescent Frost»!"
Sierra and Rika jumped into action just as quickly, completely stopping their opponent's advance.
"Pardon me, but I am coming for your flank. «Charged Spear»!"
"«Legion Charge»!"
Coordinating their movements, Aegis dashed toward the opponent's flank, riding on her horse. Ester strikes with her spear, taking advantage of her flowing agility through «Azure Cogwheel».
The preface to confrontation created an excellent springboard, and we managed to seal our opponent's trump card—the group charged attack.
"We can still do it! We just have to stall till the protection period is down and victory will be ours!"
"Your spirit is in the right place, but you're mistaken if you believe we have left any such option for you."
«Bring down the adjacent squares!»
Rina's voice echoed again just as the countdown hit the two minute mark. Karua, Lulu, Celia, Shizu, and Pamela acted immediately, and swept the nearby squares. Now, the opponents were forced out of the waiting game too.
"W-w-what, how?!"
The captain on the other end raised her voice in bewilderment.
This was the essence of the protection period barrier tactic. By creating the defensive line around the base, and with adequate strength, it basically locked down opponents from chasing any reversal.
Now that the last hope they'd—they're expecting to surround our base from other directions—was no more, they could only try to make a breakthrough against us. The clock however was running out.
At the end, the timer buzzed loudly before the opponent team's healer could even reach them.
"No way......"
Scoreboard:
«White - 22,680P» vs. «Red - 12,840P»
«Giant Castles - White (6) vs. Red (0)»
«ETA: 00:00:00»
«Players - White (13) vs. Red (4)
And with that, Eden won the duel.
T/N - Well damn, I thought the chapter was updated. I guess site kinda messed up yesterday.
