Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 90: Cave Lizard.
"Lord Alaric, we have cleared out the cave," the worker announced.
Alaric looked towards the cave, seeing the last group of workers stepping out with another fully loaded trolley of magical crystals, which would make it the tenth one.
"Alright then. Let’s do this." He said as he pulled off his mask
Alaric moved closer to the cave, the rest following behind him.
As he approached the cave, the other workers all stepped to the side, their heads slightly bowed.
Thanks to Alaric upgrading their cards, they were more efficient and hardworking—no different from a machine.
There had been instances where the workers went a whole three days working non-stop with only a few breaks to eat.
Alaric had single-handedly created an overpowered unit of workers under the barony.
Reaching the entrance of the cave, he could already see the lanterns stretched far inside to light up the place.
From standing outside, Alaric could already tell the cave itself was huge—twice the size of the Montclair family estate.
’Ohhh? This should do,’ he said to himself as he stepped inside.
Suddenly, a worker yelled, "Lord Alaric! Be careful! Some of the workers claimed to have heard a growling sound from inside!"
Alaric paused and turned around. "Growl?"
"Yes, my lord. There’s a chance a monster is staying inside. Please allow us to get the soldiers to do a check before you step in."
Alaric raised a brow. "If there’s a monster, then how did you manage to do your work? Did you not complete the clearing?"
"We did," another worker uttered. "It wasn’t until after we were done that we heard the sound. It was probably buried under the noise of our axes hitting the ground."
’A monster inside a human-dominated mining ground? Well, that’s a first.’
Alaric waved his hand.
"Don’t worry about that. You guys just wait here. I’ll be back."
With that, he walked away. Ava and Auzure followed him in.
Once inside, he began to notice the little holes on the ground.
’Looks like the ground got damaged due to the work that took place here. I’ll have to get the workers to level it up with some gravel.’
"Master. Auzure can sense something hiding in the corner over there," Auzure pointed at the corner of the cave.
Immediately after hearing that, Ava reached for the hilt of her blade, ready to strike down whatever threat could be in the cave.
Alaric, on the other hand, didn’t seem too worried.
Considering he could sense mana at a high rate, he was able to determine that the monster hiding in the cave was far weaker than he and the girls were.
Sigh!
"The monster is probably afraid of us. No need to get all hostile."
Alaric released his hold on Auzure’s hand before he began to walk forward.
Just the fact that her master was no longer holding her almost made Auzure lose her footing as she fell to the ground, staring at her hand in shock.
"Lord Alaric... what are you...?!" Ava yelled, about to run in and follow Alaric.
Before she could take a step, Alaric raised his hand, signaling her to stay where she was.
After walking for a while, Alaric suddenly stopped.
’Ah, so there you are.’
He took a sharp glance at the wall to his left and then punched a hole into it, his hand sinking deeper inside.
And then, with a bit of force, he yanked his hand out of the wall and pulled out a snake-like monster with the head of a gilled lizard.
It wasn’t huge, as Alaric could hold it with one hand, but it was still scary to look at.
Grrrr!
Grrr!
The monster cried, squirming back and forth as it tried to free itself from Alaric’s hold.
[Name: Cave Snake.

"So you’re the unwanted visitor scaring my workers. You’re so small—who would have thought you’d be able to make such scary sounds?"
Alaric shook it around for a while, teasing the monster.
"Stop swinging me, you damn human! I’ll bite your fucking face off! Argh! Just let me break free! I’ll show you what bullying really feels like!"
"A monster swearing? That’s never a good thing." Alaric swung the monster one more time.
The monster was shocked, its eyes almost sinking into its skull.
"I must be hearing things because I am afraid. There’s no way this human responded to me. Hahaha." The monster gave out a weird laugh.
Alaric moved the lizard closer to his face. "I did respond. I can understand you. What? Too surprised to say anything?"
"Ahhhh!" The lizard screamed. "I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it when I said I’d bite your face off! I was only kidding around! Don’t eat me! I have a wife and daughter at home! Oh please, strange human!!!"
It cried.
Alaric laughed.
"You can lie too?! Hahaha!"
"Hey now! Just because I am ugly, poor, and short doesn’t mean I can’t have a wife, you know?!"
"Do you?"
The lizard looked to the side. "Well, no... but still..."
"So? Tell me, how long have you been staying in my cave?" Alaric asked, now resting his back on the wall.
"Are you going to spare my life if I answer you?"
"Even if I spare your life, I have friends waiting for me out there. They’ll most likely kill you. That said, if you tell me everything I need to know, I promise I’ll make sure you don’t die."
"You swear?"
"To the gods," Alaric uttered.
The lizard sighed. "Well, I was chased out of my village because I was weak and could not protect the queen’s eggs. I figured I’d come stay here instead, since it’s so cramped up, and I can die faster in my own solitude."
"Wow... You’re really pathetic, aren’t you?"
"Hey!"
"Lord Alaric! Are you a-alright?!" Ava yelled from far away.
"Master! Ava has been molesting Auzure! Please save Auzure!"
"Don’t make such an obvious lie just because you want Lord Alaric to come hold you!"
"Ahhhh... oh no, she’s touching my chest."
"Quit that!"
Alaric and the lizard both looked towards the source of the noise.
"Are those the people you claim are going to kill me?" The lizard was not impressed.
That question lit an idea in Alaric’s head.
"Ohhhhh?" He looked at the lizard with a crazy smile. "Why don’t we test that?"
