Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 79: Strategic marriage
In less than a few seconds, Ava and Hina had also joined the crowd, standing beside Alaric.
Confused, they waited to understand what was going on, as they couldn’t understand the language of monsters.
"What do you think you’re doing asking my Master for marriage? Who told you he’s out looking for a wife?!" Aurora voiced out, hugging Alaric close to her.
"S-sorry?" Fiona, feeling timid, could only stare at them anxiously.
"You heard her! He’s not up for grabs! So shoo! Go away," Laura flapped her fingers.
Fiona looked at Alaric for a while, expecting him to say something about the new people who just appeared.
But instead, she noticed he wasn’t even paying attention. The young man looked to be in deep thought.
With his hand on his jaw, he whispered to himself:
’Hold on just a sec, this might not be a bad idea. The goblin king’s daughter has the ability to track down valuable items. With such an ability, in the right hands, she could help improve an economy tenfold—no, hundredfold!’
Alaric took a quick glance to the side, spotting the other female goblins who were seeking comfort with one another.
’And it’s not news that female goblins are extremely hardworking. If I get married to Fiona, it means I’ll have them under me too. That’s literally having free workers without having to pay any salary. It’s too good. Question is, am I seriously going to marry a goblin?’
Taking one more look at Fiona, Alaric couldn’t deny she was both cute and sexy. If anything, she looked better than 80% of the women he had run into.
And with a slight bit of upgrade, there was no doubt she’d look even prettier.
He made his decision.
The voices of the girls talking over each other overlaid his thoughts.
Then...he spoke:
"That’s enough already."
They kept quiet, eyes all locked on Alaric, but he didn’t seem interested in their attention.
Gently pushing Laura to the side, Alaric made his way toward Fiona.
"You say you want my hand in marriage. Are you serious about this?"
The ladies could not believe what they were hearing. There was no way their master was seriously giving it a thought.
"Lord Alaric?!" Ava called out, as if trying to tell him to use his brain.
Of course, Alaric ignored her, his entire focus on Fiona.
"I mean...uhm...I am pretty serious," Fiona pointed her middle fingers toward one another, "I...if I don’t have an heir, my f-family legacy dies out. And also...w-we kind of...need a...uhm...new leader."
Ava and the rest were still in total shock, their jaws dropped as they listened.
Alaric smiled, "And you chose me to be this heir?"
Fiona nodded her head, her eyes gradually looking at the threatening faces the girls were giving her.
"It would be a shame if your entire bloodline died because you couldn’t find an heir." Alaric gently swept Fiona’s black silky hair to the back. "Honestly, I don’t think I could live with myself knowing I let that happen."
"You’re so kind, human..." Fiona uttered, her eyes sparkling with adoration.
"To answer your question, Fiona, yes, I will marry you."
Ava almost died where she stood. Hina was simply too shocked to speak, and Aurora and Laura only wanted to rip Fiona apart.
"Really?!" Fiona did not bother to hide her happiness.
For as long as she could remember, she had been in the darkness of the world around her. The only thing she knew was to always remain the strongest female in order to have a husband.
She never wanted to get married to any goblin, as they were all evil and also saw the females as equipment.
Seeing a human so handsome and kind only made her take the steps she never knew she could take, and for some reason, it was paying off.
"Really. But on one condition..." Alaric moved his face closer, watching as Fiona’s cheeks instantly turned beet red.
"I’m currently working for the county. Squeezing in a marriage is not going to be possible right now. That said, I do believe we can get engaged and have our marriage once I’ve fully retired."
"Important work?"
"Yes, important work."
Fiona smiled. "I have no issues with it."
"Very good. Well then..." Alaric pulled her closer, wrapping his arm around her waist and allowing her breasts to press against his chest. "Welcome to the Montclair family, Fiona."
...
Later that very day, Alaric had Hina and his summons escort the goblins to the barony. If he was going to get engaged to Fiona, he needed her to stay in the barony and not some isolated forest.
To him, he won in both ways.
He got the crystals he wanted and also recruited valuable members to the barony.
Alaric sat on a rock just stationed above a hill. From there, he could get a bird’s-eye view of the female goblins heading toward the barony in a straight line.
"Here you are...I was looking everywhere for you," Ava uttered, walking closer until she halted right behind him.
"Decided to watch the site from up here. Laura can be quite impulsive. I don’t want her killing off half the goblins before they arrive at the barony," Alaric responded.
"You’ve done a lot of crazy stuff in the past, my lord, but getting married to a goblin takes home the award."
Alaric smiled. "Do you doubt me?"
"No, I do not. I only wish you’d tell me things before doing them. Lord Alaric, I don’t think Lady Kika would take this well," Ava uttered.
Alaric was quiet for a while.
"I’ll cross that bridge when I get there," he stood up.
Ava sighed. "Of course, he says that," she whispered to herself.
"Now that we have everything we need, we can proceed with the project and head to the county," Alaric uttered, in his hand two blue glowing crystals.
"Was this all you were after all along?"
"I simply made a bet and came out with two odds. I see that as a total win. Come on, let’s go."
