Lindarion turned to Luneth… who seemed completely out of it. Actually, everyone looked like they were in a trance—except for the woman.

’What the…?’

His eyes darted around. Yeah, every single person was frozen, their minds trapped in something.

[Mind Hallucination attack has failed due to Ouroboros’s Blessing.]

"…"

The woman’s eyes widened as she stared at Lindarion. It was clear—this was not supposed to happen.

’What kind of nonsense is this?’

Lindarion casually placed a hand on his sword’s hilt, meeting the woman’s shocked gaze as she hesitantly answered.

"U-Um… the third test is an intelligence test, conducted within a hallucination inside the participant’s mind."

Her voice shook as she spoke, her entire expression practically trembling.

’That makes more sense now.’

"B-But it didn’t work on you…"

The woman stammered, her voice filled with the kind of fear one would have when staring at a ghost.

"I suppose not."

Lindarion shook his head, fully aware of why it failed—but there was no way he could explain it.

Oh, yeah, he just so happens to be the student of an ancient, otherworldly divine entity that blessed him, so mental attacks don’t work on him.

Who would believe that? What sane person would even consider it?

They’d laugh him out of the room before believing him.

"L-Lindarion Sunblade, you may leave."

The woman’s voice cut through his thoughts, pulling him back to reality as she opened the door and gestured for him to exit.

’Wait, that’s it?’

Lindarion stared at her. That was way too easy. No extra test? No alternate challenge? He just… walked out?

He shook his head.

"Alright."

His voice was completely neutral—he honestly had no clue how to feel about this.

Lindarion slowly made his way back to the main square. In the end, he’d just wasted time walking to that room, only to be sent back with zero effort.

The other applicants were still lined up, waiting for their turn.

’Who would’ve thought I would be this lucky.’

Shaking his head, he sat down in the square. The crowd bustled around him as time passed.

Luneth arrived later, sitting beside him.

"…"

Neither of them spoke.

Lindarion’s group had yet to return—except for Luneth.

’She came second from our group, huh?’

Well, first if Lindarion wasn’t counted. But he was.

Luneth simply stared at the ground, looking like a literal ghost.

Time dragged on, the tests continued, and finally, after what felt like a damn eternity, every applicant had completed the trials.

Lindarion was seriously starting to consider taking a nap.

Then, the stage rippled, and an all-too-familiar face appeared.

The applicants all turned toward the podium as if a king had just arrived..again.

’Oh, great. Thalorin’s back.’

"Now then, future students of Evernight Academy."

Thalorin’s voice echoed through the square as the applicants immediately straightened up.

He tapped his fingers on the podium, a smile on his face.

’How the hell did it not work on him?’

His gaze locked onto Lindarion, who was still sitting on the ground—completely relaxed and barely visible in the crowd.

Next to him was a certain princess Thalorin already knew.

’Luneth? Well, this is going to be interesting.’

He chuckled to himself before continuing.

"Out of 657 applicants, only 200 have passed."

As soon as the words left his mouth, the panic set in.

"Only 200?!"

"That few?!"

Lindarion, meanwhile, sat there completely unfazed. His position was already guaranteed, after all.

Besides—he was Thalorin’s student.

’Not that big of a deal. But if around 200 students are admitted per year, that means there are around 1,000 students in total.’

Luneth, on the other hand, stared at Thalorin with wide eyes, paying close attention.

"The 200 students will be divided into seven classes based on their performance. Naturally, Class 1 is the strongest, while Class 7 is the weakest."

The tension in the air skyrocketed.

A couple or students turned to look at Lindarion—who remained completely chill on the ground.

’Why the hell are they staring at me?’

With a snap of his fingers, Thalorin interrupted Lindarion’s thoughts.

Numbered uniforms appeared in the hands of the applicants.

A black uniform landed in Lindarion’s lap—along with a badge.

’A badge?’

It was completely white, shaped like a full moon, with no extra decoration.

"Those who received uniforms have been accepted. The number on your uniform represents your year. Your badge will help identify you."

Then, he casually added—

"If you didn’t get one, better luck next time. You may leave."

’Well, that was fast.’

There weren’t many complaints. No one dared to argue with Thalorin—not that they had a chance to begin with.

Once the rejected students left, only the 200 successful applicants remained.

"Now, place your mana into your badge."

Thalorin’s voice boomed through the square, drawing everyone’s attention back to their badges.

’Mana?’

Lindarion slowly channeled his energy into the badge.

Two numbers appeared in an instant.

[ 1 | 1 ]

’Two ones?’

"The number on the left represents your class, the right one is your ranking within the year."

’Oh.’

Lindarion was first among the first-years—not that surprising.

He glanced at Luneth’s badge.

[ 1 | 5 ]

"The better your class, the more privileges you receive."

Lindarion raised a brow as Thalorin added.

’So the strong get stronger?’

He wasn’t sure how fair that was—but hey, it was motivating.

"Rankings will shift based on your results. And, of course, if you challenge someone to a duel, you have a chance to steal their rank."

The whispers began.

Lindarion didn’t even have to look up to know what would happen next.

’A bunch of people are probably going to challenge me, aren’t they? Fuck.’

Sighing, he pocketed his badge.

Luneth, meanwhile, stared at her own number, looking somewhat disappointed.

Lindarion was honestly surprised she only ranked fifth.

However he didn’t know how the others performed. Luneth seemed strong though..not compared to Lindarion of course. He was different.

Standing up, he grabbed his uniform.

"You may now head to the dormitories. Each room has a scroll—read it and submit it to your homeroom teacher."

Thalorin’s voice echoed across the square.

"I wish you all a magical year at Evernight Academy!"

Then—

Fireworks exploded in the sky as Thalorin disappeared in the space crack.

The students clapped and gasped in awe, watching the dazzling colors.

Lindarion, on the other hand, just sighed.

’That old man always comes up with something.’

Shaking his head, he gazed up at the fireworks.

’This is going to be fun.’

Lindarion adjusted the uniform in his arms as he followed the flow of students toward the dormitories. The academy grounds stretched farther than they had initially seemed, with towering buildings lined in arcane inscriptions that flickered faintly under the moonlight.

Some students whispered excitedly about their rankings. Others… were staring daggers at him.

’Ah, here we go.’

A group of students from Class 2 and Class 3 were glaring at him as they walked.

’Let me guess. They’re already planning to challenge me.’

Lindarion sighed. He wasn’t even surprised at this point.

Luneth, walking beside him, kept her gaze low, still seemingly lost in thought.

As they approached the dormitory building, the air shimmered, and a massive illusion of the academy’s crest formed above the entrance. A glowing plaque beside the door.

Evernight Academy Dormitory – First Years

The entrance was divided into seven paths, each leading to different dormitories based on class.

Lindarion stepped toward the first path marked with a silver 1, while Luneth just followed behind him.

’…Alright, then.’

They pushed forward, entering the Class 1 dormitory.

Inside, the walls were lined with floating scrolls, each glowing as they hovered above a long, enchanted counter.

An elderly man with a monocle and a strange, levitating book hovered behind the counter. His expression was perpetually unimpressed.

"Hand me your badge brat."

’Okay…’

Lindarion handed the old man his badge.

The old man glanced at him, then at the badge. Then handed him a key and his badge back.

"Room 1. You don’t have a roommate due to your ranking and class."

Lindarion took the key and blinked.

"I see."

The man nodded as he looked back at his papers.

"Thank you."

The old man snorted. "Don’t thank me brat"

’Just wanted to be nice.’

"Guess I’ll see you around," Lindarion said, giving Luneth a brief nod.

Luneth merely nodded in response and turned towards the old man handing him her badge.

Shaking his head, Lindarion turned toward the dormitory hall and moved to Room 1.

He stepped inside, taking in the surprisingly luxurious room.

One king sized bed, a large desk and a large window overlooking the academy, and even a bookshelf with some magic related books.

’Not bad.’

Lindarion noticed a scroll on his table.

EVERNIGHT ACADEMY RULES & REGULATIONS

He picked it up and started flipping through it.

Important Rules

1. Dueling is permitted, but only with consent from both parties.

2. Damage to academy property will result in disciplinary action.

3. Skipping classes will result in penalties.

4. Entering restricted areas without permission is strictly forbidden.

5. All students must wear their academy uniforms.

Lindarion hummed. ’Seems pretty standard… except for this one—’

6. Any student who loses their ranking in a duel must carry out one small favor for the victor.

He froze.

"God damn."

Lindarion sighed.

This year was going to be stressful, but not for him. He didn’t plan on losing to any of his duels.
