Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 9: Show Them the Might of Ms. Sinclair!
"Impossible," Jonas Hawthorne firmly denied.
Silas Linton felt he would be driven to death by this grandson, "What do you mean impossible? Raine is such a good girl, I really don’t know why you are so against her?"
At the mention of this, Jonas Hawthorne’s eyes suddenly darkened.
"Grandmother, you should be well aware of how Raine Sinclair forced me into marrying her back then."
The words were uttered through gritted teeth, every bit revealing Jonas Hawthorne’s loathing for Raine Sinclair.
Silas Linton paused for a moment, then waved his hand, "Enough! I can’t be bothered to bring up these old stories! There’s a banquet tomorrow night, the Grant Family will also attend, and you must go in my place and connect with their grandson. It was the contract your grandfather wanted most before he passed. For God’s sake, don’t bring a woman of questionable status, so you don’t disgrace the Hawthorne Family!"
Leaving these words behind, Silas Linton clicked away in high heels.
Just like the last time she came in, bustling and decisive.
——
The next day.
Raine Sinclair woke up, and it was already past ten in the morning.
Since becoming pregnant, she had become much sleepier.
Her eyes were swollen too.
Luckily, the heart-wrenching pain of last night had stayed just there.
When she went downstairs to eat, she found Lily Sinclair there too.
"Sister, you’re up? Today we have your favorite dumplings! Let me get them for you!"
Saying this, the girl dashed off to the kitchen.
Raine Sinclair blinked and looked back at her parents on the sofa, puzzled, "What’s going on?"
Sharon Jennings laughed, "Your sister wants you to take her to the banquet tonight, she’s really eager to please!"
"What banquet?" Raine Sinclair raised her eyebrows in surprise.
Evan Sinclair shook the travel guide in his hand, turned his body, and said, "Stratton Investments is hosting a charity banquet."
"Stratton Investments? The one from the Grant Family?" Raine Sinclair suddenly remembered that when she was young, her father took her to meet an uncle named Kevin Grant.
"Yes," Sharon Jennings nodded and added, "He has a son who’s a bit older than you, you met him when you were kids!"
Raine Sinclair frowned, "I can’t recall..."
"Tonight, you’re representing the Sinclair Family, make a random donation of tens of millions to suppress those nonsensical hot topics." Evan Sinclair suddenly said, interrupting Raine Sinclair’s reminiscence.
This was clearly about the affair between Jonas Hawthorne and The Mistress that was the talk of the internet now.
The whole internet was waiting to feast on gossip, everyone was incredibly sympathetic to Raine Sinclair...
Sharon Jennings, fearing to upset her daughter, quickly changed the subject, "I heard that the Grant Family’s son has returned from abroad, he should soon take over all of the Grant Family’s businesses, you should build a good relationship with him first."
Raine Sinclair didn’t pay attention to these words, instead anxiously looking at her father, "Dad, it’s been so many years, I hardly know anyone anymore. And such an important event..."
Leaving the company’s matters entirely to me is one thing, but even such a banquet?
Evan Sinclair didn’t seem worried, "I heard from Easton that the Sullivan kid has become your secretary? Bring him along! The kid knows everything! Just like his father, versatile and charming! With him around, never mind the elites, he even knows how many sewer pipes there are underneath Sedonia!"
Raine Sinclair, "..." Mason Sullivan is really quite famous.
"Yeah, don’t worry, just go through the motions and make a donation, show off your authority as Ms. Sinclair!" Sharon Jennings encouraged her daughter.
But just after saying this, she hesitated, "Except... the Hawthorne Family is also set to attend. Raine, if you don’t want to see him, we can skip it."
"Go, why should I?" Raine Sinclair answered quickly, without a trace of hesitation, "I didn’t do anything wrong, it’s not me who should be hiding."
She bit her lip slightly, her gaze gradually growing cold, but also becoming incredibly resolute!
The air around seemed to freeze for a moment, then Evan Sinclair’s hearty laughter broke through, "Haha! That’s my girl from the Sinclair Family! Such courage! It’s just a man, why bother keeping it on your mind? Raine, remember, men are just toys for your entertainment when you’re bored!"
Sharon Jennings was initially worried about her daughter, but upon hearing her husband’s words, she quickly waved him off, "What nonsense are you teaching? Raine, don’t listen to your father!"
Raine Sinclair laughed along, "Mom, I’m really alright, that’s all in the past."
"That’s good..." Sharon Jennings patted her hand, eyes slightly red, but smiled with relief.
She observed her daughter’s smile, without noticing anything amiss.
Just then, Lily Sinclair returned from the kitchen, bringing a plate of steaming dumplings and placing it in front of Raine Sinclair.
"Sister, eat up! Your favorite burbot filling!" Lily Sinclair coaxed, offering the chopsticks.
Raine Sinclair found it amusing, "Being so attentive for no reason!"
"Ah..." Lily Sinclair shyly scratched her head, bashfully turning to Sharon Jennings, "Aunt, look at cousin!"
Sharon Jennings couldn’t help laughing, then said, "Your sister wants to see the world, she’s grown up, it’d be good for her to make more friends!"
She winked at Lily Sinclair, who immediately caught on, going over to hold and sway Raine Sinclair’s arm, "Sister, take me along! Please?"
Raine Sinclair had already eaten two dumplings, and since one cannot refuse after receiving a favor, how could she refuse?
In the afternoon, the Sinclair Group’s fashion brand sent over the latest season’s evening dresses, and the sisters each chose an outfit. After dressing up a bit, it was about time to leave.
——
The Grant Family’s banquet was set in their mansion.
Constructed in the architectural style of early 19th-century southern Eldoria.
The whole establishment was grand and imposing, covering more than 250 hectares, with 50 hectares planted with grapes and 200 hectares with lavender.
Upon entering the circular private driveway, one first sees the rose garden in the courtyard, elegant with hints of romance.
The dining room is on the left, and on the right is a private pool.
The central building features stone facades throughout, with French doors and arched windows, luxurious and exquisite.
Lily Sinclair was already stunned by the glittering grandeur in front of her before getting out of the car...
"Wow, the Grant Family is so extravagant! This estate is so big..."
The young girl blinked her big eyes, whispering in disbelief.
Raine Sinclair followed her gaze outside, without much expression on her beautiful face, "It’s alright..."
She had once been to the Hawthorne Family’s old mansion with Jonas Hawthorne, although not in the Eldorian style, it was a former Prince’s residence from a previous dynasty, far more impressive than this.
Hearing her cousin’s calm tone, the envious gaze in Lily Sinclair’s eyes had just begun to show when many reporters gathered outside the car.
"Look! It’s a Sinclair Group car! Is Raine Sinclair here?"
"She’s come tonight too? I just saw Mr. Hawthorne enter!"
"This should be their first public appearance since the divorce! There’s bound to be a show tonight!"
