Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 80: Mr. Hawthorne Came to See His Ex-Wife?
Even though the project is indeed being handled by the Keane Family, but...
Something just doesn’t feel right.
While Leo Keane was still full of doubts, the crowd around was already buzzing in disbelief.
"How come it’s another scammer?"
"Brazenly showing up to make trouble for Sinclair Group?"
"Seriously, who’s got it out for Sinclair Group this badly?"
"Exactly, it’s supposed to be a normal bidding meeting—talk about bad luck!"
"But Sinclair’s doing a public bidding though. For a moment I thought maybe Keane’s work was shoddy or overpriced. But hearing what Ms. Sinclair just said, seems like the Keane Family’s pretty solid?"
As the crowd gossiped, Mason Sullivan had already walked up to Gavin Lewis, just looking at this punk was enough to tick him off!
Seriously, so short, but his name’s got ’High’ in it...
And he has no idea how to be a decent human being, always out hustling and scamming!
Mason instantly frowned and demanded, "Spill it—who sent you here to crash the party?!"
Gavin Lewis panicked instantly. He hadn’t expected Sinclair Group to figure out so fast that his house purchase contract was fake. But in front of all these people, he definitely couldn’t admit it just like that—so he just decided to play dumb and throw a tantrum!
"Sent? What are you talking about? You people just don’t want to take responsibility!" His shifty eyes darted around in his sockets, and Gavin pointed to several people behind him who’d backed him up, shouting, "What about them, huh! They’re victims too!"
"What, you think we’re idiots?" Leo couldn’t help but spit at him, "Anybody can see those are just shills you brought!"
"I..." Gavin opened his mouth, already feeling guilty, and in his panic, he unconsciously glanced toward the cluster of reporters.
But there were just too many people, and his mind was a mess. He couldn’t spot the guy for now.
Just because he couldn’t see doesn’t mean the person he was looking for didn’t notice him.
Hiding in the crowd, Rhys Rhodes pulled his hat brim down, pretended nothing happened, and quietly melted away.
He didn’t realize, though, that not far away, Jonas Hawthorne had caught the whole thing out of the corner of his eye.
Now that the Sinclair Family’s scandal was getting started, everyone wanted to see what would happen next.
And anyone who slipped away quietly at a moment like this was probably up to something.
Jonas waved over his secretary and ordered coolly, "Find out who that guy is."
"Yes, sir." The secretary nodded and quietly followed in Rhys Rhodes’ footsteps.
After those two left, Jonas finally shifted his gaze back to the stage.
Just then, Raine Sinclair was smoothing over the previous awkwardness; her words and tone were genuinely witty and charming.
This was a side of her Jonas Hawthorne had never seen before...
He never imagined that his ex-wife had such a calm, commanding presence.
Right at that moment, a car stopped behind him.
Finn Wyatt stepped out, and at first glance, he immediately spotted Jonas Hawthorne standing at the edge of the crowd, gazing longingly at Raine Sinclair.
He thought he was seeing things, so he took off his sunglasses and looked again, just to be sure.
He had to admit, this was not something he’d expected...
Their recent divorce had been all over the place; Raine Sinclair had been kicked out of the Hawthorne home in the middle of the night.
Given all that, shouldn’t they be avoiding each other like the plague?
What was Jonas Hawthorne doing here?
This was just getting interesting.
As for his old rival, Finn Wyatt naturally had to step up and greet him.
No matter how much they spar in private, you’ve still gotta keep up appearances.
"Mr. Hawthorne? What a surprise seeing you here!"
He dragged out the last syllable, mixing charm and trouble in his voice.
Jonas Hawthorne turned at his words.
And the moment he saw Finn Wyatt, his dark eyes went cold—glacial, even scarier than the depths of eternity!
He hadn’t expected to run into Finn Wyatt here either!
Did he come specially for Raine Sinclair?
Even Jonas himself didn’t realize: anything involving Raine Sinclair made him lose his cool.
Even every word out of his mouth reeked of jealousy.
"What are you doing here?"
Finn immediately sensed Jonas’s off tone, and was a little surprised, "Me? Of course I’m here to support her! Sinclair Group’s future is looking limitless—I gotta build some bridges, right?"
Even though he said that, Finn Wyatt was honestly just here to help Raine Sinclair.
He was worried a young woman couldn’t handle such a massive scene—what if she broke down?
Diane had told him in her letter to look after Raine Sinclair no matter what.
If Diane found out her bestie got bullied, she’d cry and yell at him for sure.
But these things, he was definitely not going to say to Jonas Hawthorne’s face.
Everyone has secrets buried deep inside; he was no exception.
Diane Linton, she was the one pure place left in his soul.
Finn Wyatt didn’t give Jonas an opening, and pressed further, "So what about you, Mr. Hawthorne—here to see your ex-wife?"
That "ex-wife" made Jonas Hawthorne’s brow tighten.
"I had no idea Mr. Wyatt was so close with my ex-wife." His tone could not have been more sour.
Finn Wyatt smugly replied, "Oh, Mr. Hawthorne, there’s a lot you don’t know!"
"...." Jonas Hawthorne’s face turned even darker.
Dealing with Leon Grant was bad enough, now Finn Wyatt showed up too.
While the two men quietly locked horns, Mason had already called the cops and told Gavin Lewis, "Since you won’t talk, maybe you can clear your head at the police station!"
"I—you can’t do this! I—" Gavin Lewis shouted twice, realized he really was out of options, and nervously looked around for any way to escape!
But the moment he tried to bolt, Sinclair Group’s security jumped him.
In two seconds he was dragged off to the side.
Once it was obvious the problem was handled, Raine Sinclair let out a sigh of relief, grabbed the mic and joked, "Things were getting a little too tense just now. Who knew fate had such a big surprise waiting for us?"
"Next up, we officially begin the bidding session! Sinclair Group is honored to have Leon Grant, Mr. Grant, here today to host. He’ll act as our final judge—let’s give him a big round of applause!"
The mood instantly bounced back.
The crowd broke out in applause.
Raine Sinclair smoothly handed the mic to Leon Grant.
The two exchanged a glance—perfectly in sync.
Once Leon Grant started laying out the bidding rules, Raine Sinclair stepped offstage.
All that shouting had definitely worn her out!
Mason Sullivan had already hurried back, quickly passing her an opened bottle of mineral water.
"Raine, you alright? Didn’t scare you, did it?"
Raine Sinclair saw the worry in his eyes and paused a moment, then smiled, "No worries. What would scare me?"
Truth was, her heart was pounding the whole time.
But her stubbornness wouldn’t let her show a single crack.
"Damn, that was a close call!" Mason Sullivan let out a relieved sigh.
Raine suddenly sighed, "I’ve been through way more humiliating things than that—this is nothing..."
I’ve seen my husband bring home a pregnant mistress, got kicked out of the house in the middle of the night, laughed at by neighbors in the pouring rain.
Compared to all that shame, what’s a rotten egg, anyway?
Whatever doesn’t break her will only make her stronger!
