Chapter 43: Chapter 43: You Still Have Me

"This is the best counterattack."

Leon Grant’s deliberately lowered voice echoed in her ears.

Raine understood, and a faint, ethereal smile quickly appeared on her soft pink lips.

"Then I must thank Mr. Grant." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Knowing she was intentionally being polite, Leon smiled and led her into the courtyard.

From afar, Candace Ford observed the two and took the chance to sigh in Jonas’s ear, "So they’re really together, so fast... But it’s for the best. I used to feel guilty about Raine, and now that she has a new place to belong, I’m relieved."

Every word was a stab at Jonas Hawthorne’s heart.

A wife finding a new man just days after divorce made what was once deep love seem like a joke.

Seeing Jonas remain silent, Candace added, "Jonas, at least you still have me. Don’t worry, the baby and I will always be by your side."

Standing in the middle, Aaron Jacobs and Yvette Yates glanced around, unable to suppress their amazement.

"Honey, don’t you think something’s odd about their atmosphere?"

"I feel it too." Aaron nodded, contemplating the upcoming plans, starting to have second thoughts, "Maybe we should say something came up at home and leave early? No poker or dinner arrangement, today just doesn’t feel right!"

Yvette agreed, "Should I pretend to be sick? You could say you’re taking me home, and they’ll certainly leave too!"

Just as she finished speaking, they heard Candace’s shout from the front, "Oh no! My stomach hurts!"

Aaron looked over to see Candace’s face indeed looking a bit pale.

Jonas, being the closest, asked, "What’s going on?"

"I don’t know, Jonas... My stomach hurts..." Candace’s face looked increasingly uncomfortable.

Raine, who was walking over without understanding the situation, heard Yvette say, "Then take her to the hospital quickly!"

"But we’ve all been drinking, who’s going to drive?" Aaron was startled for a moment, then looked at his wife, "Yvette, you don’t have a driver’s license..."

At about four or five, Yvette had curiously fiddled with her father’s car and almost caused an accident. Since then, she had disliked cars, and when she grew up, she refused to get a license.

Luckily, the Yates and Jacobs families weren’t small households, always having drivers around, so they let it go.

But today they had gone out on their own, without any drivers or servants, and all three men had been drinking.

Yvette hesitated, as if recalling something, then looked at Raine, "Raine hasn’t been drinking, she can drive."

Before she finished speaking, Jonas had already taken out his phone, "No need for trouble, I’ll call 911."

Aaron smacked his forehead, "Right, why didn’t I think of calling 911? I’m such a fool!"

Raine watched as Candace, her features scrunched up, tightly clutched her stomach.

She must really be uncomfortable, uncharacteristically silent and not causing more trouble.

Raine didn’t think of herself as a saint, extending kindness to those who bullied her, nor would she play the martyr.

But...

As an expecting mother herself, no one wants to see harm come to an innocent child.

She was willing to follow her heart, knowing when to be kind, when to be sharp, and that was enough.

Moreover, she also wanted to go home early.

So, she said, "Get in the car, I’ll take you to the hospital."

Her voice was clear and ethereal, like pearls falling on a jade plate, stirring emotions.

Everyone present was astonished.

Jonas never expected Raine not only to harbor no resentment but also to offer to take them to the hospital?

He looked at her in surprise, but her pale face showed little emotion, and she didn’t even look at him, instead turning to Leon.

"Leon, can I borrow your car?" Her tone was noticeably softer.

This stark contrast made Jonas frown even more.

Leon didn’t expect Raine to be so forgiving. After a brief surprise, he smiled, "Sure."

He handed over the car keys with a fluid motion, without a hint of hesitation, as if he completely trusted her.

Candace was in no position to refuse now, her forehead drenched in sweat, barely hearing the conversation around her, with only one thought in mind: nothing must happen to her child!

After all the struggle to conceive, with so many hormone shots and hardships, no way could it end halfway.

Aaron and Yvette quickly came back to their senses, "You guys hurry to the hospital! We’ll head back once we’re sober!"

After this brief discussion, Raine nodded and glanced at Jonas, "Let’s go!"

"..." Jonas hesitated for a moment, not immediately following.

Raine probably guessed what he was thinking and said at once, "Don’t regret it if you miss the best treatment time."

With that, she turned around gracefully.

Leon watched all this unfold, taking it all in.

As he looked at Raine again, admiration filled his gaze.

A husband bringing a mistress into the open, causing a public uproar—a scandal known by all.

Even when enduring such injustice, Raine chose to act in the greater interest rather than stand by, displaying a truly extraordinary grace and kindness.

Leon felt increasingly that Raine was a very remarkable woman.

Jonas didn’t contemplate too long. Candace’s pained expression implied that neither she nor the child could wait much longer, and the group hurriedly drove off.

Once they left, Aaron and Yvette sat at the BBQ grill for a long while.

They were still quite dazed by the events of the afternoon.

After some time, Yvette asked, "Honey, wasn’t that like a dream? Jonas and Raine each bringing their current partners and eating with us?"

"Raine even volunteered to take the pregnant mistress to the hospital... Honey, are there really such, um, kind people in the world?" Aaron remarked, admitting he had never seen such a scene in his life!

"Well, everyone knew Raine could drive and hadn’t been drinking. If she refused and something happened to Candace’s child, then Jonas..." Yvette sighed.

In the situation earlier, not going wasn’t an option.

Fate sure knew how to challenge Raine.

Aaron rubbed his aching head, "I have no idea what might happen with the four of them in one car..."

Yvette also held her breath, not daring to imagine!

Meanwhile, in the car that had driven about six or seven kilometers.

No one spoke, a deathly silence pervaded.
