Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 42: He Doesn’t Love Me, Yet He Married Me
Candace Ford clenched her teeth tightly. She just casually asked a question, who would have thought he’d actually leave?
And yet, she was the one who brought it up first, leaving no room for maneuver!
Aaron Jacobs looked at these odd people and couldn’t help but exclaim, "Ms. Ford, you’re really calm! Your current partner and his ex-wife are having dinner at the same table, and you’re not even a bit upset?"
Candace’s eye twitched, wondering if this person was brainless.
But she maintained her smile, "After all... she is Jonas’s ex-wife."
——
The same question was asked by Yvette Yates, who had just finished washing grapes, to Raine Sinclair.
"Honestly, when we were eating, my heart was really pounding! I was so afraid you’d go up there and slap those two cheating bastards!"
Raine Sinclair knew what she meant.
When an ex-wife meets the mistress, it’s usually a battle to the death!
For them to sit together and eat like this is... quite the spectacle!!
Raine Sinclair had never imagined she’d see a day like this.
After a cold laugh, she spoke, "We’ve already run into each other, should I purposely avoid her? If Candace Ford isn’t afraid, then why should I be? Besides, everyone wants to save face. Isn’t everyone living with a facade?"
All the discomfort and injustice can only be quietly hidden beneath the mask.
When she was very young, she saw her father’s business partners, one moment acting like kindred spirits, even wanting to become family through marriage, and the next moment betraying her father without hesitation.
Even knowing all that, her father would remain calm at the next business dinner, pretending nothing had happened.
The reason Candace was so enthusiastic in front of so many people was just to take the opportunity to humiliate her.
If she can’t avoid it, she can only face it head-on!
Who will have the last laugh is yet to be seen!
Yvette nodded as if she understood, but if it happened to her, she wouldn’t care about saving face and would definitely beat up the mistress whenever she saw her!
In times like this, who cares about dignity?
But then she turned her thoughts around and asked Raine Sinclair, "And what about Jonas Hawthorne? Do you really have no feelings for him at all anymore?"
That’s what she was most curious about.
What they didn’t know was that as soon as Yvette asked this question, Jonas Hawthorne happened to walk to the doorway.
His footsteps paused unconsciously.
He raised his eyes to look into the room, only able to see a profile of Raine Sinclair.
She seemed to be silent for a moment, then smiled.
"Hatred, does that count?"
Her tone was so light, tinged with ridicule and mockery...
But to Jonas Hawthorne’s heart, it was unbearably heavy!
Like a giant stone crashing down, nearly suffocating him!
"You hate him?" Yvette sat down beside her, blinking, "For cheating?"
"I hate that he married me even though he didn’t love me," Raine Sinclair said, word by word, her pale lips slightly curled.
She was smiling, but the smile was as bitter as strong tea, hard to swallow.
Yvette couldn’t hide a trace of melancholy in her expression as she listened.
She didn’t know how to comfort her, so she just reached out to hold her hand, using a little force, as if silently communicating strength.
Meanwhile, at the doorway, Jonas Hawthorne felt as if he had been struck by lightning.
To her, there’s only hatred left? 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
His thoughts were interrupted by the voice of Leon Grant from ahead.
"Mr. Hawthorne?"
Leon Grant had just turned around after answering a call while pouring water and saw Jonas Hawthorne standing at the door.
It wasn’t just Jonas Hawthorne who heard the voice, but also Raine Sinclair and Yvette inside the living room.
Both turned their heads and saw Jonas Hawthorne entering.
Yvette’s expression was slightly awkward, her eyes darting around in their sockets for a few circles before she silently stuck out her tongue.
Uh-oh...
Did he hear the question she just asked?
Raine Sinclair, however, remained much more composed.
She simply glanced at Jonas Hawthorne and then turned back, pretending she hadn’t seen anything, and continued eating her grapes.
Let’s face it, the sweet and sour taste quickly suppressed the previous nausea.
As for whether Jonas Hawthorne heard, or how much he heard, she couldn’t care less.
Jonas Hawthorne, seeing Raine Sinclair turn her head away, shifted his gaze to Leon Grant, "Is everything alright?"
Though the words were directed at Leon Grant, the concern was for Raine Sinclair.
Leon Grant’s eyes flickered, raising the cup in his hand, "Nothing serious. She just didn’t listen and drank a few too many cold drinks a few days ago, making her feel a bit uncomfortable."
His tone was full of indulgence and concern for Raine Sinclair.
On the surface, Jonas Hawthorne appeared calm and indifferent, without a hint of emotion.
In reality, only he knew that at this moment, his heart felt as if it were being tightly gripped by an invisible hand!
Ultimately, without saying another word, Jonas Hawthorne turned and walked out towards the yard.
Yvette watched as this imposing Yama left and finally breathed a sigh of relief, "That really scared me just now... You really can’t talk bad about someone behind their back! They might just hear it any second!"
Leon Grant raised an eyebrow as he approached, "Were you bad-mouthing Mr. Hawthorne?"
"Uh..." Yvette stiffened and then said, "No, how could we dare to speak ill of Mr. Hawthorne? Right, Raine?"
After tossing the topic over to Raine Sinclair, Yvette quickly slipped away.
Raine Sinclair then noticed Leon Grant looking towards her, and without hiding anything, she repeated what was said just now.
After listening, Leon Grant thoughtfully said, "No wonder Jonas Hawthorne had a dark expression."
"Let’s not talk about him. Shall we go out? Yvette mentioned there’s a game room next door?" Raine Sinclair raised a brow.
"What? You also like to play cards?" Leon Grant’s eyes carried a hint of surprise.
This woman is always so full of surprises.
Originally thought to be gentle and weak, yet inside, she’s incredibly strong.
Originally thought to be quiet and reserved, yet unexpectedly interested in games?
Raine Sinclair didn’t explain, just gave a profound smile, "Just a way to pass time."
The two of them chatted as they walked outside the villa.
Before they even reached the yard, they could see from a distance that Candace Ford was holding onto Jonas Hawthorne’s arm, asking him questions.
Their actions weren’t particularly intimate, but in Raine Sinclair’s eyes, it looked like flirting.
She tried hard to convince herself not to pay attention, but the way she clenched her teeth betrayed her feelings.
Leon Grant saw her cheerful mood from earlier suddenly shift to something somber, and following her gaze, he furrowed his brow too.
By the looks of it, despite her words of indifference, it seemed she hadn’t completely let go.
Amidst Raine Sinclair’s daze, a warmth suddenly spread from her right hand hanging by her side.
She turned her head sharply, finding Leon Grant had come over and held her hand...
Her heart skipped, and instinctively she wanted to pull away, but he held on even tighter!
