Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 35: Borrowing You to Make Up the Numbers
Evan Sinclair noticed something unusual with his daughter, so he asked, "What are you looking at?"
"Here." Raine Sinclair directly handed over her phone, not at all concerned about her father seeing her chat window.
Evan just took a glance; he never meddled in his daughter’s affairs.
He only saw the name Leon Grant and understood the obvious invitation—being a man himself, he knew full well what it meant.
Of course, it couldn’t be ruled out that Leon Grant was merely trying to get closer to the Sinclair Group through Raine.
But that was a matter for another time.
Evan furrowed his brows and asked again, "You said earlier, he knows you’re pregnant?"
"Yes." Raine nodded, somewhat surprised, wondering why her father suddenly asked about this.
The next second, her father smiled meaningfully, "He helped you out for no reason, so you should openly thank him tomorrow!"
"But the company..."
"With Easton there, don’t worry! Besides, do you think the business will magically improve just because you stay in the office every day?" Evan patted her hand, and just then Sharon Jennings came back with the soup, "What are you two talking about? I heard something about gratitude when I went upstairs?"
"Nothing." Evan bypassed the topic, "Drink the soup, drink the soup!"
Raine held the warm bowl of soup handed by her mother, feeling an indescribable happiness.
The next day.
In the afternoon, the sunlight was just right.
Leon Grant arrived at the Sinclair Family’s doorstep on time.
Raine felt lazily reluctant to fuss about, but Sharon insisted she go outside for a change of scenery, even helping her dress up specially.
"Mom, I’m already divorced, is it really okay to dress so youthfully like a little girl?" Raine tugged at her high ponytail, looking at her pastel pink jacket and white pleated skirt, even paired with youthful sneakers, asking helplessly.
But Sharon thought it was great, "You’re pregnant now, just avoid wearing high heels, or else..."
Seeing her mother seemed unsatisfied, Raine dared not say more, waving her hand hastily as she rushed out the door!
As she walked quickly outside, she saw from afar a man in casual attire leaning against the car.
"Leon Grant!"
Raine called his name, waving at him.
At that moment, Leon was lost deep in thought, suddenly hearing someone calling his name. He turned to see the gentle and beautiful girl intrude into his mind...
A moment of distraction.
Until Raine noticed he was staring blankly at her, she awkwardly tugged at her clothes.
"Do I... do I look weird?"
Truthfully, she felt strange, thinking how could she still try to look young as she’s about to become a mother!
While she was debating whether to go back and change her outfit, the man spoke suddenly.
"You look fine, it’s nice." Leon snapped back to reality, opening the passenger door for her.
Initially feeling awkward, Raine felt reassured by his words, getting into the car with ease.
Once the car set off, Raine asked, "Where are we going?"
"Meeting some friends." Leon said while turning the steering wheel to the left.
Raine frowned slightly. Why take her to meet his friends?
Seeing through her thoughts, Leon explained, "They all have partners with them, so I borrowed you to make up the numbers."
These words surprised Raine, "You want me as your partner?"
"Can’t I?" Leon raised an eyebrow.
"It’s not that..." Raine clicked her tongue, looking at Leon as if he were crazy, "Everyone in Sedonia knows I’m divorced, isn’t it inappropriate to take me along now?"
With his status as a young master of the Grant Family, and his charm, countless young and beautiful women would flock with just a beckon!
Why insist on bringing her?
Unexpectedly, Leon didn’t care about any of this, "So what if you’re divorced? I never thought a person’s excellence is related to their marital status."
Hearing this, Raine was struck, surprised as she glanced at him, realizing he wasn’t even looking her way, focused solely on the road ahead.
His words seemed to come out naturally, without the slightest hesitation.
Clearly, that’s genuinely how he felt.
After a brief silence, Raine smiled, "Well said."
That’s how things should be.
It’s just a pity the world they’re in is filled with prejudice.
At that moment, Raine seemed to gain a deeper understanding of the man beside her.
He seemed slightly different from ordinary people.
——
Forty minutes later, Leon drove into a seaside villa.
The place was spacious, the garden’s scenery was exquisite, with outdoor barbecues and various entertainment facilities in sight as they drove in.
It was clearly a great vacation spot.
As soon as the car stopped, a man in a floral shirt and sunglasses ran over, leaning against Leon’s car window to greet, "Leon, you finally made it! We’ve been waiting forever!"
Then he noticed someone was in the passenger seat, figuring it was a young girl by the outfit. He removed his sunglasses to teasingly peek inside, "Is this the young sister-in-law? This..."
He didn’t finish his sentence, swallowing it abruptly.
Because in the next moment, he realized the young girl was actually Raine Sinclair, who’s been the talk of the town lately!
"..." He was suddenly speechless, as if he’d seen a ghost!
Instead, Raine turned back to look at him confidently.
She recognized him immediately, Aaron Jacobs, the oldest son of the Jacobs Family.
He was on good terms with Jonas Hawthorne, often hanging out together, and through these interactions, Raine got to know him too.
However, ever since he married Yvette Yates from the Yates Family a year ago, Aaron hadn’t been as socially active.
Raine recalled, it’s been more than half a year since she last saw Aaron.
Meanwhile, Aaron’s mind raced with a million thoughts!
He hurriedly turned to Leon, "Leon, what in the world..."
Yesterday on the phone, he’d asked Leon to bring a partner. Who would’ve thought he’d bring Raine Sinclair!
"What ’in the world’?" Leon cut him off, getting out of the car.
Aaron, pushed back by the car door, stepped back a few times, his face wrinkled with urgency, "Even Jonas Hawthorne is here too!"
Leon’s eyes narrowed slightly, "The friend you wanted to introduce is him?"
Raine frowned too.
"Yes!" Aaron slapped his thigh, feeling today was doomed, "And he brought his new flame too!"
Well, both the expected and unexpected are here now.
