Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Come With Me Somewhere

In the silence, a soft call suddenly came from behind, "Mr. Grant?"

The voice was clear and crisp, with a hint of joy and disbelief.

Leon Grant turned around, his eyes calm, "Oh, it’s Ms. Sinclair."

"Please call me Lily!" Lily Sinclair smiled sweetly, glanced at the ward behind Leon, and asked, "Is my cousin doing better?"

She had seen Leon Grant when she was upstairs in the Sinclair Group building.

There were many people at that time, and everyone was busy dealing with things, so she could only watch from afar.

When she arrived at the hospital, reporters were surrounding the place, and she couldn’t get in. It wasn’t until the reporters left that she learned her cousin had fainted and hurried in to check.

She didn’t expect to find Leon Grant at her cousin’s ward door as soon as she arrived.

She thought he would have left long ago...

Seeing him was truly a pleasant surprise.

"Much better," Leon Grant replied, then put down his phone and went in with her, "I just came to say goodbye before I left."

"What? You’re leaving?" Lily Sinclair couldn’t hide the disappointment in her eyes.

It was hard to see him, and now they would part.

"I still have some business at the company to handle." Leon Grant said, as he knocked on Raine’s ward door.

Lily Sinclair opened her mouth, initially wanting to say something, but Mason Sullivan’s voice came from inside the room.

"You’re still here?"

Whenever love rivals met, it was always intense.

Raine glared at Mason Sullivan, wondering why he always became so tense each time he saw Leon Grant!

"I got a call, and there’s some business I need to handle." Leon Grant glanced at Mason Sullivan, then looked at Raine, "Take care and rest well."

"Thank you for today." Raine smiled and nodded, wanting to say something more, but saw Lily Sinclair coming in from outside, and her train of thought was immediately interrupted, "Lily? Why are you here?"

"Sis, are you okay?" Lily Sinclair quickly walked over to Raine, her eyes full of concern.

Raine smiled and said, "I’m much better, don’t worry."

After Leon Grant nodded towards Raine, he turned and left.

Mason Sullivan had just finished the last bite of his apple, and as he discarded the core, Raine said, "That apple was from Leon Grant."

"..." Mason Sullivan immediately choked, "Cough, cough!"

This made Raine laugh.

Little did they know, watching from the side, Lily Sinclair felt a slight twinge of bitterness in her heart.

Leon Grant hadn’t been back in the country long, and it was only at the charity gala that her cousin met him with her. How did it feel like they were already so familiar?

Yet she barely had a chance to exchange a few words with him...

——

Later, when Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair got the news, they hurried to the hospital to take their daughter home.

"My darling daughter, how did you faint? Better not go to the company anymore, there’s too much work, and you’re pregnant, you can’t overwork yourself!"

Sharon Jennings was genuinely worried sick.

Having gone through a full-term pregnancy herself, she knew the hardships involved.

At the time, fortunately, her husband was considerate, and there were many people around to take care of her, which made the pregnancy a bit less severe.

Now, with Raine recently divorced and emotionally shattered, still working so hard, how could a mother not be heartbroken!

Raine was currently leaning against the bed, sipping hot soup, "Mom, I’m really fine! Look, I’m perfectly okay now?"

"Perfectly okay, yet you fainted?" Sharon Jennings said sharply, then turned to look at Evan Sinclair, who was sitting silently by, "Say something! I didn’t agree when you wanted her to work at the company. You insisted that it was good to keep her busy! Don’t you care about your daughter and grandchild?"

Evan Sinclair, after being scolded, remained frowning, refusing to relax.

When he turned to look at his daughter, he felt a pang of guilt, "Raine, if you’re too tired, don’t push yourself, after all..."

"Dad, Mom, I’m really fine! Besides, we have the bidding conference next week, I can’t just walk away now, can I?" Raine tried hard to reassure her parents.

Though her relationship life had been full of setbacks in past years, having such loving parents was truly a comfort to her.

"Oh!" Sharon Jennings sighed deeply, "You’ve been like this since you were a kid, once you decide on something, nobody can change your mind."

Just like when she liked Jonas Hawthorne...

No matter how much people around her tried to persuade her, she wouldn’t listen, insisting that Jonas was the best in the world and determined to marry him.

In the end, it was a complete disaster.

Raine also understood what her mother meant, and she smiled faintly, "This time is different, this time I have loving parents who support and help me, what could possibly defeat me?"

Her feigned lightheartedness somewhat eased Evan Sinclair’s deeply furrowed brows.

After all, men aren’t always tender-hearted.

"Since our daughter has said so, let her finish this task."

"But..." Sharon Jennings opened her mouth, hesitant for words, but swallowed them, "Fine, since both father and daughter have said so, what else can I do?"

"Mom, your soup is delicious! Is there more?" Raine handed over an empty bowl just in time.

Sharon Jennings’s thoughts were instantly diverted, "There is! I’ll go get you some more!"

After Sharon Jennings left, Evan Sinclair sat down beside Raine, reached out to touch his daughter’s head, and sincerely praised, "You handled the afternoon situation very well, I’m quite relieved! Fortunately, you haven’t forgotten the things I taught you."

Evan Sinclair truly cherished his only daughter, keeping her by his side as she grew up, she was already well-versed in the complexity of business and politics.

"Thanks to dad’s good teachings!" Raine was happily like a child.

Only in front of her father could she drop all her defenses and revert to being a child.

Evan Sinclair was amused, "You, still acting like a child!"

He then remembered Easton Yancy’s report and couldn’t help but ask an additional question, "I heard Leon Grant was there when it happened?"

"Yes," Raine nodded, without any hint of shyness, "he helped a lot, and also found out I’m pregnant..."

"Oh? Is that so." Evan Sinclair elongated the end of his words thoughtfully, his mind contemplating various possibilities.

It was at this moment that Raine’s phone buzzed.

Looking down, she saw it was a message from Leon Grant.

[How’s your health?]

[Much better. Thank you for your help this afternoon.] Raine replied.

After some thought, she felt it might not be sincere enough, so she added a cute thank you emoji.

She quickly received a reply.

[If you truly want to thank me, how about accompanying me somewhere tomorrow?]

After reading, Raine thought to herself: He sure knows how to take a hint.

If she refused, wouldn’t that imply her earlier gratitude was insincere?
