Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 32: Are You Pregnant?
Everyone’s attention was instantly drawn over.
"Doctor, how is the child doing?" Raine was the first to step forward and ask.
The reporters caught the moment and started snapping pictures quietly from the side.
The person who came out was Miles Marshall. He frowned and said slowly, "The child is allergic to walnuts, and he was sent here a bit late. The situation is slightly serious. Now the reaction has affected his airways."
Only then did the child’s mother rush over, her eyes bloodshot. "What should I do? Doctor, please, you must save my son! I’m begging you! He’s still so young!"
"First, he’ll be monitored in the ICU. Don’t worry, we’ll do our best," said Miles, then called for a nurse. "You need to pay the fee first."
The woman froze, "I... I don’t have that much money with me..."
As soon as she finished, Raine shot a glance at Easton Yancy.
Understanding what she meant, Easton immediately stepped forward, "Though the child’s allergy has nothing to do with Sinclair Group, fate brought us together. Sinclair Group will cover all medical expenses for the child."
The woman was dumbfounded after hearing that.
The reporters around started to whisper among themselves.
"Sinclair Group is really generous. Not only were they falsely accused, but they’re still paying the medical bills?"
"That’s the mark of a big corporation!"
"Ms. Sinclair was standing anxiously at the monitoring room’s door just now!"
Perhaps the atmosphere got to her. The woman, still crying, looked at Raine, unable to find the right words, just thanking her over and over, "Thank you, thank you..."
"Take good care of your child," Raine offered a few comforting words and finally turned to leave.
But her steps seemed a bit hurried. On top of that, she’d forced herself to sleep a few hours of poor quality the night before and worked all day today. Suddenly, her vision went black, and her knees felt weak.
Without realizing it, she fell forward...
"Raine!" Mason Sullivan shouted anxiously, but he was too far away. By the time he rushed over, Leon Grant had already pulled Raine into his arms.
"Raine!" Leon called out, worry in his voice.
After a dizzy spell, Raine felt herself fall into a warm and strong embrace. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Three words flashed through her mind.
Jonas Hawthorne.
Her rosy lips parted unconsciously; she wasn’t sure if she actually called out, and soon after, she completely lost consciousness and fainted.
Propping herself up for so long had finally worn out her body.
What followed was darkness and endless sinking.
In her dreams, she returned to when she was nineteen.
In those green and youthful days, she met Jonas Hawthorne.
Even to this day, she could remember it so clearly—it was an early autumn afternoon.
A drizzle had just passed, the air was filled with the fragrance of moist earth, with a bit of lingering dampness.
Jonas Hawthorne was wearing a clean white shirt, tall and graceful, his features as handsome as carved jade, strolling across the campus lawn.
He held a book in his left hand, his right casually in his dress pants pocket, sleeves slightly rolled up—lazy, yet with a cool ease and an air of refinement and elegance.
He was exactly what Raine had always envisioned a young man should be.
She hadn’t believed in love at first sight before.
She thought it was just being attracted to someone’s looks...
But when it actually happened to her, she believed.
Oh, so love at first sight was real!
And that feeling was so wonderful...
She felt as if her feet were standing on clouds of spun sugar, her entire body weightless.
From then on, she used every possible connection to learn about Jonas Hawthorne, to get close to him, and after a year, she married him.
Two years of marriage passed in the blink of an eye.
Now, it had already been three full years.
She couldn’t remember where she’d read it—love’s "freshness" only lasts about three years.
So, even her love with Jonas Hawthorne had reached its expiry date...
——
Luckily, even the deepest night eventually ends.
When the bright, warm light broke through, Raine slowly regained consciousness.
With great effort, she opened her leaden eyelids. The first thing she saw was Mason Sullivan by her bedside.
His usually carefree face was now full of worry.
Seeing her awake, he was as excited as a child, "Raine! You’re awake!"
Raine noticed the redness around his eyes as if he was about to cry.
"What happened to me..." She braced her hand against the bed, struggling to sit up.
Realizing her intention, Mason quickly intervened, "Don’t move! The doctor said you’ve been overworking and not resting, and your blood sugar’s a bit low."
At that, Raine stopped moving.
It wasn’t that she was being obedient—it was more surprise and fear...
"What else did the doctor say?"
Is the fact that she’s pregnant still a secret?
If Jonas Hawthorne finds out, will he force her to get rid of the baby?
Seeing her so nervous, Mason quickly grinned, "Afraid of dying, huh? Relax. Doctor says you’re healthy as a horse! You just have to eat more, get more nutrition. Don’t worry, I’ll bring you homemade meals every day! I’ll make sure you get chubby and strong!"
"What else?" Raine pressed on.
She couldn’t ask directly, so she could only try to find out bit by bit.
But Mason’s mind was lagging behind, and he looked at her confusedly, "What else?"
How was she supposed to know what else? That’s what she’s asking him for!
Thankfully, the next second, Leon Grant walked in from outside. "You’re awake?"
Raine wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but Leon’s "You’re awake?" sounded softer and warmer than ever before.
"Mm..." She nodded meekly, but before she could say more, Leon glanced at Mason. "Assistant Yancy wants to see you—he says he’s got something to talk about."
"I’m not going! You want me out of the way so you can do something to Raine?" Mason instantly became guarded.
As long as Leon was around, he was always extra tense.
Raine rubbed her forehead, exasperated, "Don’t say nonsense. Go check, will you?"
"Raine..."
"Go, now!" Raine pretended to scold him.
Mason pouted and left, still resentful.
After he’d left, Leon brought an apple to Raine’s bedside, a bit awkwardly handing it to her. "A nurse just gave this."
Raine was about to tease him about whether the nurse had asked for his number when he suddenly asked, "The doctor said...you’re pregnant?"
At the same time—
Jonas Hawthorne, just out of the golf club, received a news alert.
