Chapter 31: Chapter 31: He Has an Ulterior Motive

"I bumped into Assistant Yancy on my way here, so I came over with him." Leon Grant explained first, then introduced the man beside him, "This is a pediatrician, let him take a look at the kid first."

Raine blinked, still unsure exactly what route he’d taken, but her face was already turned toward the doctor. When she saw "Miles Marshall" written on his ID badge, she said, "Thanks, Dr. Marshall!"

Miles Marshall had been dragged over in a daze the whole way.

But the moment he saw the little boy covered in rashes, his professional instincts flared up, and he unconsciously stepped forward.

"When did the rash start? Any other symptoms?"

As Miles approached, the woman holding the child suddenly backed away a big step and shouted, "Don’t touch my kid! Who knows if you’re really a doctor? What if you’re just a plant sent by this shady company?!"

Gotta say, this woman sure is vigilant!

Raine hadn’t even had time to explain when Miles suddenly felt his dignity as a doctor under attack and anxiously blurted out, "A plant? I’m Miles Marshall, a pediatrician—just search online if you don’t believe me!"

As he spoke, some quick-thinking reporters already started searching the internet.

These days, with technology so advanced, a quick search can tell you anything.

Very soon, someone called out, "Yup, Miles Marshall is real—his picture matches! He’s a legit pediatrician!"

With that, everyone’s doubts melted away.

The woman holding the boy hesitated a little too; no matter what, having a doctor check her kid couldn’t be a bad thing.

When Miles saw she wasn’t dodging anymore, he stepped forward and quickly began checking the boy.

The reporters around them also quieted down for now, all waiting for the results.

Meanwhile, the technicians Easton Yancy brought were already using specialized equipment to test the blue kids’ t-shirt with the sunflower that had been thrown on the ground.

The instruments worked fast. The technician quickly reported, "Ms. Sinclair, the shirt’s fine—it’s a genuine Sinclair product and doesn’t contain any sensitizing agents."

Raine finally let out a breath of relief, just in time to hear the woman shout, "No way! You’re just covering for yourselves!"

But as soon as she finished, Miles Marshall frowned and said, "It looks like a food allergy. But to know for sure, you’ll need to go to the hospital for specific allergy testing."

The words "food allergy" instantly sent a ripple through the crowd.

If that’s really the case, then Sinclair Group isn’t responsible at all...

Which means this woman was just here to stir up trouble today.

Raine secretly relaxed; on the surface, it looked like Sinclair Group wasn’t facing any major problems.

But what happens next is just as important.

You can’t let people get any excuses to attack you.

"What food allergy? My son ate the same things as always, he—" The woman anxiously shouted.

Before she could finish, the little boy in her arms mumbled, "Mommy, I ate something yummy at lunch..."

Just a few simple words, but the woman seemed struck by lightning.

She froze, standing there, her mind spinning at warp speed. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Something yummy?

Could it be...

Standing in the crowd, Easton Yancy saw his chance and stepped out, announcing, "Looks like this allergy isn’t as simple as it seems. You should take the kid to the hospital and run the tests—don’t let his condition worsen!"

Mason Sullivan’s eyes flicked and he caught on too, "Yeah, if anyone wants to go to the hospital, feel free—if you don’t, then time to disperse!"

Miles Marshall hurried the woman to take the boy to the hospital. She dropped all her hostility and, flustered now, followed him straight out of the lobby.

The tense standoff instantly eased up.

Leon Grant looked back at Raine, "I’ll go with them. Don’t worry."

"I’m coming too." Raine didn’t even hesitate and stepped forward.

"Raine." Leon called after her, "The hospital will be crowded."

Raine didn’t even look back as she kept walking, "I’m in charge of Sinclair Group. I have to go."

Leon was left standing, stunned.

He watched her determined figure, admiration gradually filling his eyes.

He thought she was just some girl with a hint of power because of her father.

Turns out, she was a real woman who took responsibility.

Mason hurried ahead, and when he looked back, he saw Leon and Raine walking side by side—his brow furrowed uncontrollably.

This Leon Grant always gives him a serious sense of danger...

But right now, his jealous little feelings would just have to wait.

——

A bunch of people stormed out of Sinclair Tower, none of them noticing the ride-share parked quietly on the corner across the street.

Candace Ford sat in the back seat, a pair of oversized sunglasses nearly covering half her face.

"Driver, let’s go."

With that, the window rolled up. The car started and quickly merged into traffic, vanishing from sight.

The Hospital.

Plenty of reporters trailed after, desperate not to miss the story.

While the little boy was being examined, Raine and the others waited outside the exam room.

Easton Yancy noticed Raine frowning deeply and tried to comfort her, "Ms. Sinclair, with what we know so far, the kid’s allergy doesn’t seem connected to Sinclair Group. No need to worry—at least for now."

"Mm." Raine nodded. Things looked good, but she didn’t dare let her guard down.

Mason Sullivan had wanted to say something, but when he glanced back, he noticed Leon Grant’s eyes glued to Raine.

That clingy feeling irritated him, so when he finally spoke, his tone was pretty sour.

"Hey, why’d you come along? This isn’t really your concern, is it?"

Little did he know, his words had just pulled Raine’s attention back to Leon Grant.

"Mason, don’t say that. Mr. Grant..." Raine started, then remembered she was supposed to change how she called him, correcting herself, "Leon just came to help."

"Leon?" Mason was about ready to explode...

The sense of danger he felt ran even deeper!

Easton Yancy, seeing the tension rise, quickly said to Leon Grant, "Really appreciate your help back there, Mr. Grant."

"Wasn’t a big deal, happy to help." Leon Grant smiled casually, looking totally unfazed.

Mason Sullivan just ground his teeth!

What a poser!

Everyone knows he keeps coming around Sinclair Group just for his Princess Raine!

And yet he’s still playing innocent!

Am I really the only one who sees what he’s after?

Just as Mason was fuming and itching to punch someone, the exam room door opened.
