Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Hide Behind Me

"As a secretary, what’s wrong with picking up my own boss?" Mason Sullivan asked with a smile, dispelling Raine Sinclair’s suspicions.

He certainly couldn’t mention that his sense of crisis was due to Leon Grant suddenly showing up!

If he didn’t make a move soon, the hard-won opportunity would be handed over to someone else!

Raine Sinclair seemed convinced by his words and said just one thing as she got into the car, "You should still call me Ms. Sinclair."

"Don’t worry, my princess!" Mason’s tone was reassuring, though his phrasing was entirely different.

With those words, he closed the car door swiftly and walked elegantly towards the driver’s seat.

Quickly, there was a roar, and the car sped away!

Sharon Jennings happened to be strolling in the yard and, upon seeing this scene, turned back to look at Evan Sinclair, who was practicing Tai Chi behind her. "Honey, isn’t that the younger son of the Sullivan Family? I just saw him picking up our Raine."

"Yes," Evan Sinclair replied, pushing his palms forward slowly, his movements minimal but his stance stable.

"He seems quite attentive to Raine..." Sharon, being experienced in such matters, could sense a hidden nuance with just a slight pondering.

Evan Sinclair remained silent for a while, only speaking thoughtfully after finishing the whole set of Tai Chi and taking a towel to wipe his sweat, "Our daughter is so outstanding, isn’t it normal for a few young men to be around her?"

"But this Sullivan kid seems a bit young," Sharon mused for a moment before adding, "Not mature enough."

Evan Sinclair put down the towel with a cold snort, "Isn’t that Hawthorne boy mature? Look at what he’s done!"

Sharon Jennings said no more.

Oh well, such things are inherently unclear.

——

Raine Sinclair got busy as soon as she arrived at the company.

In the morning, she met with three company managers who came for the bidding, and she didn’t even have time to go out for lunch, making do with a box lunch in the office.

In the afternoon, after reviewing the quarterly reports, she finally had a moment to rest when Lily Sinclair came in, carrying small cakes and hot milk.

"Sis, you’ve been working hard, right? Come and have something to eat!"

Lily’s voice was very soft, and her demeanor was so cute that it was immediately likable.

Raine stretched lazily, walked over, and was surprised at the sight of the tea table full of food, "Why did you buy so much?"

"To share with Mason and the others!" Lily laughed cheekily and called Mason and Easton Yancy over, "You guys eat too! Don’t be shy!"

Mason walked over first, randomly picking a latte that he intended to hand to Raine, only to see Lily already offering her a milk.

"Ms. Sinclair, do you really like milk? I didn’t see that! Didn’t you just say you were sleepy? A cup of coffee would wake you up!"

Lily glanced at Mason, guessing he probably didn’t know her cousin was pregnant...

Indeed, the fewer people who knew about this, the better.

Raine casually said, "My stomach’s not good, so I’ve given up coffee."

"Oh." Mason naturally didn’t ask further and handed his coffee to Easton Yancy instead, "Here, you’ve worked hard too."

"Thank you." Easton didn’t sit down but stood on the side slowly sipping the coffee.

Lily encouraged everyone to eat as she subconsciously glanced around the office.

Raine noticed her actions while eating cake and asked, "Lily, are you looking for someone?"

"Huh?" Lily snapped back and quickly shook her head repeatedly, "No..."

In fact, she had heard Leon Grant had come to Sinclair yesterday and wanted to try her luck to see if she could meet him.

Raine furrowed her brows, just about to say something when the security team leader rushed in, "Ms. Sinclair, something’s happened downstairs!"

Everyone in the room froze for a moment before turning their attention to the security team leader.

Easton Yancy kept his composure and was the first to问, "What’s going on? Take your time and explain."

Raine instinctively looked at Easton, finding him remarkably calm.

He was indeed dependable, having been by her father’s side for many years and probably experienced all sorts of situations, which explained his composure.

Reflecting on this, the security team leader, catching his breath, replied, "A woman with a child has come to the lobby saying... saying that wearing our company’s children’s clothing caused a full-body allergic reaction, and she called a lot of reporters over!"

"Children’s clothing allergy?" Raine stood up, her brows tightly knit.

Easton quickly explained, "Sinclair Group has several clothing brands under it, including children’s wear."

Upon hearing this, Raine decisively ordered, "Go down and have a look. Also, notify the relevant testing experts and pediatricians immediately."

"Yes." Easton swiftly nodded, as he too had thought of this when the security team mentioned it.

Mason saw Easton going to contact experts and quickly stood up himself to go downstairs with Raine.

As they left the office, Raine didn’t forget to tell Lily, "Lily, you go back by yourself later, we’ll reschedule another day."

"Okay, Sis, don’t worry about me."

Lily also nervously stood up and took a few steps forward.

She hadn’t expected such a sudden incident either...

Raine said no more and quickly went downstairs.

Upon entering the transparent elevator, she could see the lobby crowded with people below, forming circles and creating quite a scene.

Mason also looked down unconsciously swallowing and reminded Raine, "Later, stay behind me to avoid getting hurt!"

"Is it that serious?" Raine raised an eyebrow and then instructed the security team leader, "Call more people over to maintain order, make sure there are no injuries."

No matter whose responsibility this incident turned out to be, Sinclair could not afford any human casualties.

The security team leader immediately nodded and took his walkie-talkie to say, "All units, all groups, head to the first-floor lobby and maintain order on site!"

Right after he said this, the elevator steadily stopped on the first floor.

With a "ding!" the door opened.

Even before Raine could step out, numerous reporters had already surrounded them.

"Quick! Ms. Sinclair is here!"

"Ms. Sinclair, what do you think about the reports of children having allergic reactions to Sinclair’s children’s clothing brands?"

"Sinclair had promised the public that all children’s clothing brands underwent premium testing. Now with such a scandal, how will Sinclair explain this to the public?"

The reporters bombarded her with questions like a deluge, and before Raine could answer them all, the mother with the child rushed over, crying out in a heart-wrenching voice—

"Sinclair Enterprises have no conscience! Selling such unqualified clothes for my son to wear! He’s so young! You heartless businessmen!"
