Redemption of a Born Demon-Chapter 52: Men as Weeds, Firearms as Nothing (Part 2)
Soon, Jiang Qiu saw the man walk out of one of the rooms. To her surprise, despite the bloody scene, the man who had personally caused all this carnage only had a few bloodstains on his clothes and several bullet holes in his attire. His exposed skin and hair, however, remained pristine.
The man glanced in their direction.
Jiang Qiu’s body trembled uncontrollably. She truly had no idea if this person was a man or a ghost, good or evil.
’Charging into a camp of twenty to thirty armed men, shrugging off bullets with his bare body, and possessing enough unarmed strength to obliterate half a torso in an instant... Could he still be human? She had only ever seen characters like this in Super Warrior movies.’
However, the man only spared them a single glance, apparently with no intention of dealing with them. He quickly averted his gaze and walked straight toward another wooden hut.
The wooden hut Yi Beidou entered was the stronghold’s kitchen. Although the building was crude, it housed a sizable freezer stocked with enough ingredients to feed twenty to thirty people for several days.
Given the special circumstances, Yi Beidou wasn’t picky. Without even starting a fire to cook, he simply picked up the ingredients, chewed, and swallowed them, feasting heartily.
GURGLE GURGLE!!
His stomach and intestines churned like a roaring machine, digesting the food and converting it into reserves of Physical Ability.
As he consumed more food and his digestion accelerated, his blood began to flow faster. His body temperature gradually rose, and his skin turned a faint red. He could even hear his blood surging through his veins like molten metal.
His pores opened and closed, and beads of sweat began to form. The sweat was a pale brown, as if filled with impurities. With a single shake of his body, Yi Beidou flung the droplets to the ground.
This was a phenomenon seen in masters of Body Ascension: by eating rapidly and maximizing digestion, any resulting impurities would enter the bloodstream only to be metabolized and expelled as sweat.
This method greatly alleviated the excretory pressure from consuming large quantities of food in a short period. In fact, if the food was sufficiently pure, a Saint could digest it completely, rendering normal excretion unnecessary.
About half an hour later, Jiang Qiu and the others watched as Yi Beidou left the kitchen. He searched a few other huts, changed into a set of clothes that fit a little better, then returned to the courtyard and strode toward them.
His towering figure blocked the light, enveloping them in his shadow. The oppressive presence was suffocating.
Jiang Qiu, who was at the front of the group and closest to Yi Beidou, was trembling so hard she couldn’t help but squeeze her eyes shut in terror.
RIIIIP!
Suddenly, she felt the restraints on her hands and feet go slack. The ropes binding her had been cut. Her eyes flew open in astonishment.
By that time, however, she only saw his silhouette striding out of the stronghold’s main gate. In just a few flashes, he disappeared into the mountain forest, vanishing like a wisp of smoke.
From start to finish, the enigmatic man had not spoken a single word to them.
Staring in the direction he had vanished, Jiang Qiu’s expression was vacant and lost. It was the sound of the others struggling and whimpering that finally snapped her out of it, and she hurried over to help untie them.
They would have to face the rest of their ordeal alone. Whether or not they survived was now up to them.
...
...
「Northern Myanmar, the former Golden Triangle, the most lawless region in all of Nanyang.」
With the changing times, the region’s industrial structure had shifted. It was once famous for cultivating illegal substances, but as the technology for producing such contraband advanced globally, the local industries were forced to transform.
Today, its main profits came from black market industries: fraud, gambling, brothels, underground fighting rings, and the trafficking of people and organs.
Night had fallen. Northern Myanmar, with its towering skyscrapers, smooth roads, and dazzling neon lights, looked every bit the modern metropolis. But beneath the glow, a deep darkness festered.
Oleduo Mansion.
This mansion belonged to the Oulaido Group, a conglomerate with ventures in gambling, underground boxing, and more, making it one of the most powerful groups in Northern Myanmar.
In reality, the Oulaido Group had another identity: it was the Nanyang regional headquarters for the Pioneer Group.
In the CEO’s office, a middle-aged man of Asian descent, well-dressed and with a refined air, sat before massive floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing down at the city below.
In a lawless place like this, where assassinations and kidnappings were rampant, most organization leaders kept a low profile. Anyone who dared to so brazenly expose themselves to their rivals’ sights was certainly no ordinary man.
This man was the head of the Pioneer Group’s Nanyang operations, Mr. Guo.
KNOCK KNOCK!
There was a knock on the office door. After permission was granted, a female secretary with a graceful figure entered.
"Sir, the representatives from the five major powers have all arrived. They’re waiting in the conference room now. They’re all here about the recent incident in Donghua," the secretary said respectfully.
"I know."
Mr. Guo swiveled his chair around and slowly rose to his feet, his expression serene.
Soon, he was standing before the conference room doors, which he pushed open.
Five people were seated inside. Behind them stood a group of heavily armed bodyguards.
There was a gaudily dressed woman in a bright red cheongsam; a round-faced middle-aged man clutching a string of Buddha Beads; a gloomy, white-haired old man; a young, effeminate man in a business suit; and a taciturn, burly man with a hideous scar across his face.
"You’ve caused quite a scene. Illegally entering Donghua... do you have any idea how serious that crime is? Do you know how much pressure Donghua has put on us overnight? We agreed to cooperate with you, not for you to run wild without our permission," the woman in the red cheongsam said with a sneer before Mr. Guo had even taken his seat.
"You need to give us an explanation for this matter," the white-haired old man said.
"It was an urgent matter, and not consulting you was our mistake. However, it’s not a major issue. We will sacrifice some of our forces as Substitute Ghosts to give you a plausible story for the public."
"What? Are you worried that Donghua will defy international pressure and send troops to level this place? Or are you afraid that the Saint will come all the way here to hunt you down for revenge?"
Mr. Guo walked to his seat and sat down, his expression calm and his tone even.
"This matter won’t be resolved so easily," said the middle-aged man fingering his Buddha Beads. "What you did was too risky. If things continue like this, it’s only a matter of time before we’re implicated."
"What? Do you all think that just because we lost a few Super Warriors, we have no one left to call upon? That we’re now weak and easily bullied?"
At these words, Mr. Guo’s eyes glinted dangerously, and a terrifying aura erupted from him.
BOOM!!
It felt as if all the air was being squeezed out of the room. The five representatives’ pupils shrank, and their guards reacted instantly, leveling all their muzzles at Mr. Guo.
Yet, Mr. Guo remained perfectly still, his expression calm.
"I never expected you to be hiding this deep," the woman in the cheongsam said, staring intently at Mr. Guo. "You’re one of *those people* too?!"
"Calm down. Our cooperation is mutually beneficial. The world is about to enter a new era, and you all should feel honored to have a ticket for this express train."
"Haven’t you all been wanting Potion No. 7? I can agree to provide you with a limited supply. The prerequisite is that you must contribute to resolving this matter," Mr. Guo said with a smile.
For a moment, the eyes of the five representatives flickered.
’Revenge? They weren’t truly afraid of retaliation.’
’So what if it was Donghua? If they could have sent an army to raze this place to the ground, they would have done it long ago.’
’So what if he was a Saint? Would he really have the audacity to cross the border and come for them?’
’A man like that was powerful, yes, but he wasn’t some unkillable, eternal Daluo Golden Immortal.’
’This wasn’t Donghua. This was their territory!’
To put it bluntly, the only reason they had gathered here was to represent their respective factions and leverage the situation for their own gain.
And the Pioneer Group was a very juicy piece of meat for the carving.
What they didn’t know, however, was that under the cover of darkness, a certain man was already standing on the outskirts of the city.
’Looks like I’m getting close to my target.’
Yi Beidou gazed at the debaucherous, brightly lit city in the distance. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
CRACK! CRACK!
The bones throughout his body cracked and popped. His tall frame seemed to fold in on itself, his entire form shifting until he became utterly inconspicuous.
Then, he resumed his stride, emerging from the mountain forest and walking toward the city.
A Celestial Demon Transformation, melting into the mortal realm.
