Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 88: My One and Only Husband (2)
"You look sick. You shouldn’t have come here if you’re not feeling well, Addie." Lennox said as he watched Adrienne take the vacant seat across from him.
Adrienne poured herself a cup of tea and glanced at the man before her. Lennox’s expression today was exceptionally cold, his lips pressed into a thin, firm line. She wondered who made him angry this time.
"I’m fine. Nothing that a good sleep can’t fix." She paused and looked around. "Has Samantha returned from school?"
Lennox stared at her momentarily, thinking about all the scandals and evidence he and Gavin had collected against the Jiang family. As he read through the documents, he couldn’t help but think a young woman like her shouldn’t be suffering like that.
Seeing her calm disposition, Lennox could only sigh inwardly. What was the use of getting frustrated with her? She was already suffering grievances at home but couldn’t tell him. Who was he to blame her? In Adrienne’s eyes, he was merely a partner or a close acquaintance.
"She’s not home yet, and even if she is, Samantha usually stays in her room and never joins me for meals." Lennox grumbled. "I guess she still hasn’t accepted me as her brother."
"Do you want her to?" Adrienne arched a brow at him. She was surprised that Lennox was now willing to play the role of a big brother to his siblings. It felt like only yesterday when he had cursed his father for leaving those children in his care.
"Wouldn’t it make it easier for the both of us if we get along? How’s your meeting with Miss Qiu and Noah?"
"I suppose you and Mr. Si need to find an apartment nearby for Miss Qiu. As expected, she isn’t willing to leave Noah under your care. She also mentioned the possibility of Noah being on the spectrum, meaning you’ll have to cater to his needs."
"You think she won’t contest Noah’s custody after this? She’s not asking for monetary gain?"
"Miss Qiu only wants to be assured that Noah will be taken care of."
Lennox hummed and leaned back on his seat. He shut his eyes as he hadn’t had a wink of sleep last night because he was keeping an eye on the scandals and news related to the Jiang family. Having the Jiang Corporation suffer a massive loss was just a start. If they continued to bother Adrienne, he wouldn’t be so kind and would force them into bankruptcy. Now that things were finally in motion, he could rest.
As for his younger siblings, everything that happened so far was within Adrienne’s expectations. Truth be told, Lennox didn’t think he could get custody of those children easily without her help. He also now understood his mother’s sentiments over these children.
"Len, it’s not enough to provide their necessities. Children also need love and attention. You and I both know you can’t give them those." She reminded him.
"I’m still unmarried and will be turning twenty-seven soon, yet I already have to worry about raising children." He sighed dejectedly. Lennox expected the rest of the children would eventually give him a headache. He would be lucky if they at least tried to listen to Adrienne.
Adrienne let out a low laugh. "Just think of it as another reason you should stay childless in the future."
Lennox blinked at that. He wasn’t expecting to hear something like that from Adrienne.
"Aren’t you planning to remarry and have children once we divorce?"
Obviously, the two of them tacitly understood that they were only marrying for convenience. Having a child was practically out of the question. Still, Adrienne would only be twenty-three by the time they decide to divorce, and Lennox thought she had plans to settle down with someone, even if it was not him. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"No, you’ll be my one and only husband in this lifetime," Adrienne said without batting an eyelid, yet her words made Lennox’s heart skip a beat upon hearing it. "I will not marry anyone else once we divorce."
Lennox lowered his gaze to his clasped hands. They weren’t married yet, but the thought of Adrienne leaving him left a bitter taste in his mouth. It was really foolish of him to think Adrienne would change her mind and make their marriage real.
"You’re still young, Addie. You don’t have to spend the rest of your life alone."
Whether Adrienne decided to remarry after their divorce, Lennox knew he had no say in it. However, he was preparing himself for her to demand that they be married once she reached her twenty-first birthday.
"It’s too early to tell what awaits me in the future. Until then, allow me to be part of your small family, even for a moment. Your siblings will be mine soon, so you might as well learn to deal with them properly."
Lennox wanted to tell her she could stay if she wanted to, but knew the woman before him was like a lotus in a pond. Adrienne’s heart was hard to predict. She can only be admired from afar, however, when one dares to pluck her out of the desire to possess, this beauty would become unattainable.
"I doubt they will listen to me. If anything, I’ll be lucky if they at least listen to you." Lennox grimaced at the thought of being avoided like the plague by his siblings. "Anyway, if that’s Miss Qiu’s condition for her to give up on Noah’s custody, then that could be arranged. It would be better if we could transfer Noah to a school nearby than keeping him in Jinling City."
"That’s what we agreed to do. Miss Qiu doesn’t seem to mind moving places as long as she can see and visit Noah anytime." Adrienne said with a slight smile. Retrieving Noah was easier than she’d expected. Like Samantha, she thought she needed to exert more effort to convince Beatrice Qiu, but it wasn’t the case. The condition Beatrice Qiu had set was really straightforward.
