Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 73: Enamored (1)
Lennox had been waiting patiently for Adrienne’s arrival. He kept checking the time and felt that it was ticking too slow to his liking. Lunchtime was over but it would surely take her another three hours before she could leave school. He felt a little silly waiting for her.
He tried to focus on the book he was reading but he had been stuck on the same page he’d been trying to understand for an hour now. He finally gave up and shut the book, closing his eyes to rest.
Gavin chose to enter his room and found him like this. Lennox roused from his sleep and looked at him. He didn’t know how long he’d been asleep.
"I have some good news and bad news for you. Which do you want to hear first?" Gavin didn’t waste his time and asked him.
"Does it matter which one you say first?" Lennox raised a brow at his friend-slash-right hand man.
Gavin shrugged and took a seat on the chair next to Lennox’s bed. He crossed his legs and clasped his hands together.
"Nox..." came his warning tone.
"Fine, fine. Tell me the good news first." Lennox conceded. He hoped it would overturn the bad news later.
"We’re able to register our investment firm and I have already found a decent location for the headquarters. Of course, the Qin family doesn’t know you own half of it."
"Well, that’s already expected. What about the bad news?"
"Jacob and Audrey’s wedding date has been set." Gavin said, paying attention to Lennox’s reaction but there was none.
"That’s it, Gav? Did you just make me worry for nothing?" Lennox sounded disappointed instead.
"You aren’t upset?" His best friend continued to probe.
"Why would I be upset? Marrying Addie is way better than marrying that woman. I dodged a bullet when her family dissolved our engagement to let her marry Jacob. I don’t need a woman who can’t decide for herself by my side."
Gavin said nothing, but kept his gaze on his best friend. He understood Lennox more than anyone else. Lennox might not have realized it yet, but he was already enamored of Adrienne Jiang.
He could only sigh and rub his temple. He didn’t want to interfere in Lennox’s personal affairs, so he would just focus on helping him manage their investment company.
Adrienne came at that moment, still dressed in her school uniform. She greeted Gavin first before regarding Lennox, whose face immediately brightened upon seeing her.
"I’m here for our tutoring session, but it seems I came at the wrong time."
"Ah, yes. Lennox and I have just started our investment firm and I’m here to discuss it with him." Gavin answered her instead. He could feel Lennox’s glare piercing through his head. Lennox must have been anticipating her visit today and he had unceremoniously ruined his plans.
"Ah! What a coincidence!" Adrienne said. "I wish to invest my money to grow it. How much do I need to use to invest?" She asked Gavin.
Gavin gestured for her to take a seat next to the table, which she accepted.
"Miss Jiang, you roughly have seven million in local currency. When investing for the first time, you can’t put all your eggs in one basket. You should only invest an amount you don’t mind losing. However, for us seasoned investors, the rule of thumb is to never lose money. If you really want to invest, I suggest you start with at least 20 million. Of course, Nox and I will make sure not to lose your money."
"Our local investment firm is still new, Addie, but Gav and I have been running one overseas for five years now." Lennox chimed in, not wanting to be ignored by Adrienne.
"Oh, then I’m relieved. I must raise funds first then, before anything else." Adrienne hummed to herself.
"Miss Jiang, I don’t mean to pry, but didn’t your mother set a trust fund that you can access once you turn eighteen? Lennox and I got ours when we reached the legal age. Perhaps it would be the same for you. If you can confirm its existence then maybe you’ll find that you actually have more money than you thought you did."
"I’m not sure. No one mentioned anything about a trust fund to me before, so I thought there’s none. But thank you for mentioning it. I’ll surely check if Mom did in fact left something for me."
Gavin nodded, then faced Lennox who was scowling deeply at him. He knew he wouldn’t be able to talk to him about business when Lennox was like this.
"Alright, let’s talk about it on my next visit." He said before turning to Lennox. "I shouldn’t need to remind you to play your part once you’re discharged from this hospital. You have to make it believable that you’re not a threat to the Qin family anymore." He reminded Lennox.
Since he and Lennox’s mother were in charge of him, they would need to set a ploy to deceive the Qin family so they wouldn’t come after him.
"Don’t worry about it. Mom has already given me a rundown of what I should do. Now, if you could please help me call my caretaker, I’d appreciate it. I need to start tutoring Addie." Lennox wasn’t even hiding his intentions to chase Gavin away.
Adrienne was about to say something when Gavin stood up.
"Give me a call when it’s a good time to speak." He told Lennox, then gave Adrienne a curt nod. "Miss Jiang, I’ll see you next time."
Gavin left at once, leaving them on their own. Adrienne raised a brow at Lennox.
"Do you really have to chase him out? You know, you should treat Mr. Si better. He must have come to discuss an important matter with you."
"I trust Gavin and he knows it. He knows that I will only step forward if things are already out of his hands. He knows how to handle our people and knows when to cut losses. I have the money, he has the brains. How did you think we became billionaires under the age of 30?"
