Chapter 57: Resigning to One’s Fate (1)

Adrienne woke up with a smile on her face. The notification on her phone saying she received the exact amount of one million dollars in her account brightened up her mood. It had been three days since she and Gavin retrieved Samantha at the police station, and the girl was now residing at Jinxiu Garden.

The girl looked at her helplessly as she was about to leave Jinxiu Garden with Gavin. Adrienne hoped Samantha would be able to adjust to her new life and would grab the opportunity of a new life that Lennox was offering.

"What a great start to a day." She chuckled, then hummed a tune as she went to the washroom, eager to start her morning run. Adrienne wondered if she could meet that person at the gym. If his absence persists, perhaps she should give up on him and focus on luring Hunter Nian to her side. Still, losing a valuable pawn would be a pity, and Adrienne wasn’t willing to give up just yet.

The morning class period hadn’t officially started when Adrienne arrived at school. Everyone was busy chatting and the students were noisy in the hallway. Suddenly, they fell silent, and everyone turned their heads and looked at her. Adrienne was sure Ayla and Sierra had started yet another rumor about her.

Though Ayla and Sierra’s families were residing in Jinling City, they also attended the same school as Adrienne and Elise. Among the young misses of the Jiang family, Ayla was the most famous one. She excelled in most subjects and there wasn’t one thing about her that wasn’t perfect. Not only was she pretty, but her temperament was also gentle, making her approachable.

On the other hand, even though Sierra wasn’t as outstanding as Ayla, she still had a fair share of admirers. She was a year older than Ayla and Adrienne, but she had missed a school year to recover from an illness when she was younger.

The more outstanding Ayla and Sierra were, the more lacking Adrienne appeared. This only worsened when Elise came into the picture, ruining her reputation at every chance she had.

Before her mother got involved in the car accident, Adrienne used to hang out with Ayla and Sierra, thinking that having her cousins around would also boost her confidence. However, for Ayla and Sierra, the reason they kept Adrienne next to them was to look better than her.

But now that Adrienne was reborn, she didn’t want to put up with that pretense. How could she pretend to be oblivious to what was in their hearts?

"It’s really surprising how shameless she can be! I thought the villainess would not dare to show up today after bullying Sierra, but I was wrong!" A young lady Adrienne recognized as one of Sierra’s closest friends, said loudly with a ridiculing expression on her face.

"Raelyn, it’s not like that..." Ayla shook her head, giving Adrienne a pitiful look.

Adrienne then noticed Elise hiding behind Sierra, who was giving her a smug look.

"Ayla, you are too forgiving to your cousin! It’s really a wonder how you are even related to that foolish person. You should be wary of her!" Raelyn insisted.

These words were enough to put Adrienne in a bad light. When Sierra heard it, she laughed and shook her head.

"It wasn’t that serious, Raelyn."

Raelyn scoffed when she heard Sierra’s words.

"Is she acting like this because her mother isn’t here to discipline her? To think that the prestigious Zhao family would produce a person like her. It’s really a shame. Having her as a relative is really a misfortune. Ayla, you should stop making excuses for her. She already bullied Sierra, in the future, it might be your turn!"

"I can bully you instead right now. I don’t mind." Adrienne said with a wicked smile. Everyone turned their heads and waited in anticipation of what would happen. This young miss of the Jiang family used to be timid and submissive, making one wonder if it was just a facade to fool them all. She looked like a different person today.

Adrienne used to have long hair and bangs that covered half of her face. She liked to lower her head and refused to meet everyone’s eyes. Since her mother’s accident, her personality turned gloomy and she could only be seen speaking and accompanying Myrtle around the campus.

Now, not only did Adrienne chop off her long wavy hair, revealing her face. Everyone realized she was actually beautiful, comparable to the school belle, Adrienne’s cousin, Ayla Jiang.

Adriene stepped forward, shortening the distance between her and Raelyn.

"Y-you..." Raelyn Xi staggered back unconsciously, her knees quivering at the intensity of Adrienne’s eyes. "W-what do you want?!" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"You claimed that I bullied Sierra? In what way did I bully my precious cousin? You speak as if the person you keep slandering isn’t around. Please tell us, in what way did I bully or offend Sierra, because I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around." Adrienne’s tone sounded gentle, but her eyes showed mockery toward Raelyn. The previous Adrienne would have cried about being wronged by others, but it won’t be the case now.

Raelyn was stunned and everyone around them was also surprised at Adrienne’s response. They expected her to cower in fear and seek Ayla’s help to clear up the issue, but Adrienne didn’t.

"Could it be that it’s not the case?" Raelyn let out an awkward laugh. "Didn’t you use your uncle to pressure Sierra to give back the gift your father gave her during her birthday? Adrienne Jiang, I know it! You were just pretending all this time and taking advantage of Ayla and Sierra’s kindness!"

Raelyn viewed Adrienne as an eyesore. Not only was she different from her beautiful and kind cousins, but Adrienne was also dumb and selfish. How often did Ayla try to make an excuse for Adrienne’s rudeness and shortcomings in the past? Raelyn had already lost count.
