Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 429: Adrienne of the Past (1)
Lennox and Rosemary decided to bring Adrienne home so they could focus on taking care of her. It would also give the family the privacy they needed while waiting for Adrienne to regain consciousness.
Two weeks had already passed since the incident, and she had yet to wake up from her coma. While her body was recovering well, her mind remained in a deep slumber, leaving her loved ones anxious and worried. The doctors assured them that it was a matter of time before Adrienne would awaken, but the uncertainty weighed heavily on their hearts.
They filled her room with familiar objects and played her favorite music, hoping the familiar surroundings would help stimulate her senses and bring her back to them. Noah had spent most of his time by Adrienne’s side, hoping his adopted mother would eventually wake up.
The young boy was devastated when he first heard the news of Adrienne’s attack. Not even Beatrice could console and convince him that his mother would be alright. He cried, trembling in Samantha’s arms as they waited for the news. He had never uttered a single word since then, which made his siblings and Rosemary worry about his emotional well-being.
They feared that Noah’s silence was a sign of deep trauma and were desperate to find a way to help him heal. They decided to seek professional guidance and support, hoping that therapy would provide Noah with the tools he needed to process his emotions and eventually find his voice again.
Meanwhile, Lennox brought home his work and did all of it in their bedroom. He didn’t want to leave Adrienne’s side because he knew he couldn’t focus if he were away from her. He wanted him to be there once his wife woke up.
However, it was evident to everyone around them that Lennox was on the brink of exhaustion. His eyes were heavy with sleep deprivation, and his movements were sluggish. Rosemary feared Lennox would collapse from exhaustion if he didn’t take a break soon.
"Nox, why don’t you take a nap first? You don’t look good at all. Addie would be worried if she knew you were pushing yourself this hard," Rosemary suggested, concern evident in her voice.
She had seen how Lennox had been tirelessly caring for his wife, day and night, without rest. He barely had any time for himself, let alone to sleep. Lennox would continue working late at night and barely leave Adrienne’s side. He would only leave her side when necessary, such as grabbing a quick bite to eat or using the bathroom. The toll of sleep deprivation was starting to show on Lennox’s face and overall well-being.
Lennox hesitated momentarily, realizing the truth in his mother-in-law’s words. He knew he needed to prioritize his well-being to be there for Adrienne when she woke up. Reluctantly, he nodded and decided to take a much-needed nap, trusting that his mother-in-law would wake him if anything changed with Adrienne’s condition.
Lennox rose from his seat and was about to leave and go to the adjacent room when the door suddenly burst open. His wife’s older brother entered in a hurry and looked at Adrienne with concern. Hunter then pulled Lennox’s collar tightly; his entire body was tense with worry.
Initially, he had some reservations when Adrienne entered a contract marriage with Lennox Qin. He knew she was using their marriage as leverage to protect herself from the Jiang family and Alistair Han.
However, he’d seen how their friendship eventually bloomed into love. Adrienne married Lennox out of love, and Hunter begrudgingly accepted their relationship. Hunter couldn’t deny the genuine connection between Adrienne and Lennox despite his initial concerns. He knew that Adrienne’s happiness was paramount, even if it meant accepting a marriage that began as a strategic move.
How could he stop Adrienne from marrying Lennox when he could see how happy they were together? Hunter realized that his sister had found someone who truly understood and cherished her, and he couldn’t bear the thought of taking that away from her. As much as he may have wanted to protect her, he ultimately knew that she had decided to make it and that he had to support her in whatever she chose.
"You promised me that you’d take care of Addie. You told me you wouldn’t allow anyone to hurt her! How could you let this happen to her, Lennox?!" Hunter exclaimed while his mother rushed into them, forcing him to release Lennox.
Imagine his shock when he received the news of his sister’s condition. Because he was in the middle of an important mission, it took Hunter sometime before he was allowed to return home. When he finally arrived, the sight of his sister lying in a bed was devastating. The guilt and anger welled up inside him as he realized he had not been there to protect her when she needed him the most.
"Hunter, no! Please don’t do this! It’s not Lennox’s fault at all! It was your father who did this to Addie." Rosemary said it in tears and broke down, seeing how distraught Hunter was. It also hurt to know that the person responsible for the tragedy they were facing was none other than her ex-husband.
Adrienne was Lewis’ flesh and blood, and she couldn’t believe he could be capable of such cruelty. The realization shook her core, questioning everything she knew about him. How could someone she once loved so deeply be responsible for causing such pain and suffering?
It was a bitter pill for Rosemary to swallow, but she knew she had to accept that it was only now that she saw Lewis’ true colors. The facade he had presented for years had finally crumbled, leaving behind a shattered image of the man she thought she knew. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Lennox said nothing and lowered his gaze, accepting the blame that Hunter had placed on him. He knew that no matter what he said, it wouldn’t change the fact that Adrienne had been hurt and he had failed to protect her.
Hunter’s anger turned into guilt as he realized the truth in his mother’s words. He looked at Lennox with remorse and understanding, realizing that blaming him wouldn’t solve anything. He could also help but feel guilty for making his mother cry. Hunter knew it was hard for his mother to see his sister in pain, and he wanted to do whatever he could to make it right.
