Chapter 412: A Cruel Twist of Fate (2)

The two-week vacation trip she had with Lennox passed in a blink of an eye. Adrienne found herself back in her private jet with Lennox, who was now busy reading the email on his laptop. She had no doubt that his work was piling up on his desk, waiting for him to return.

"It’s a pity that our trip was over." She sighed in her seat. "I wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed more of our time together." Adrienne glanced out the window, reminiscing about the beautiful memories they had created during their vacation.

Lennox looked up, looking at her through his glasses. He gave her a warm smile and said, "I feel the same way, Addie. But don’t worry, we’ll have more opportunities to travel when our schedules allow us to do so."

Adrienne nodded in agreement, but she had a feeling it may take some time before she and her husband could travel again. With the amount of work waiting for their return, she knew that their busy lives would likely keep them grounded for a while.

Myrtle and Jet were waiting for them at the airport. Adrienne’s three bodyguards were also with them; a black sedan was waiting for her. Another car was waiting for Lennox, as he would be going straight to the company upon their arrival.

"Take a rest for today, Addie. I’ll see you later tonight."

"Okay. Give me a call if anything urgent comes up," Adrienne replied, giving Lennox a tired smile.

Lennox gave Adrienne a kiss and regretfully released her hand, knowing that they had to part ways for now. He watched as she got into the black sedan, feeling a pang of longing already. As the car pulled away, Lennox couldn’t help but feel a sense of emptiness without Adrienne by his side.

Myrtle joined Adrienne in the backseat of the car, while Irina took the seat behind the wheel and drove back to Jinxiu Garden.

"You look good, Addie. I can see why Nox isn’t eager to let you go," Myrtle said with a knowing smile.

Adrienne blushed and looked out the window, her tired smile turning into a shy one.

"You are speaking nonsense again, Myrtle. How were things while Lennox and I were away?’

Her best friend shrugged. "Not that much has changed, to be honest. The days just felt a little bit longer without you around."

Myrtle paused for a moment to gather her thoughts.

"Well, if you want some juicy news, I have one that can leave you speechless."

Adrienne raised a brow, looking at Myrtle to continue.

"I heard Elise has become an exclusive escort now. She’s using her mother’s surname, but everyone knew it was her dumb attempt to distance herself from the Jiang family."

Adrienne blinked twice. Her mind raced with a mix of shock and curiosity. She had always known Elise to be ambitious, but this revelation seemed to take it to a whole new level.

"Are you certain, Myrtle?" She asked her friend.

"Yes. She was spotted in Elysian, flirting and chatting with a wealthy businessman. Elise has the looks, but I’m surprised that she’s willing to go to such lengths just to keep her lavish lifestyle after the downfall of the Jiang family." Myrtle answered.

Adrienne’s eyebrows furrowed in concern as she processed the information. She wondered if this was the reason why her father was trying to get in touch with her mother. She could already feel a headache coming her way, but in a way, she felt ironic that the one who ended up selling her body in Elysian was Elise and not her.

When Adrienne had reached rock bottom, desperate to find money to pay for her mother’s hospital bills, it was Elise’s idea to trick her into selling her body to Elysian. It was a cruel twist of fate that Elise, who had once been her father’s golden child, had fallen so far.

Elise, who was her father’s daughter from his mistress, was doted on and spoiled rotten from the moment she was born. Everything was handed to her on a silver platter and loved dearly by their father, so different from what Adrienne had experienced. Adrienne, on the other hand, had always been overlooked and seen by her father as an unwanted child, a constant reminder of his past mistakes.

"Elise is digging a grave for herself to lie in. She may not realize it now, but her foolishness will eventually catch up to her. The world outside their sheltered bubble is not as forgiving, and Elise will need more than just her father’s approval to get through life successfully." Adrienne commented.

"Do you think she’s the reason why your father is begging for your help?" Myrtle questioned her.

"Maybe." Adrienne wasn’t certain what her father was planning to do now. "But what has it got to do with us? Didn’t he choose Camilla and her children over me, my brother, and my mother? Why should we be the ones to come to his rescue now?"

Myrtle nodded in agreement. "You’re right. After everything your father has done to your family, you have no obligation to help him. You don’t think he got a sudden change of heart, do you?"

"Impossible." Adrienne quick answer came. "My father is set to believe I was the one brought bad luck to the Jiang family. He only see me as disposable child whom he could take advantage of."

She sighed, feeling the weight of her tiredness settling into her bones. She leaned her head against the window, closing her eyes.

"Let’s not talk about it anymore, Myrtle. I’m too exhausted to dwell on family affairs now."

"Okay," Myrtle said, reaching over to give Adrienne’s hand a gentle squeeze. "Rest now. We’ll talk more later, when you’re feeling better."

As they arrived at Jinxiu Garden, Adrienne was greeted by her mother who was already waiting for her with her husband’s siblings. "Welcome back, my dear."

Adrienne hugged her mother, feeling grateful for the warm embrace. "I missed you, Mom."

"I missed you too, darling. How was your vacation with Lennox?"

"It was wonderful. We had a great time together," Adrienne answered with a smile.

Her mother beamed. "I’m glad to hear that. Come, let’s go inside. We have so much to catch up on." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

As they walked towards the house, Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a sense of comfort being back home with her family. She was relieved to see that her mother didn’t look stress with her father’s sudden reapperance to their lives.
