Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 388: A Terrible Mistake (1)
Regardless of the old man’s intention, the damage had already been done. His father was already dead, and there was no way to bring him back to life. The old man’s actions could not undo the irreversible loss and grief that Lennox experienced. He cannot say he could forgive him, and it pained him to know they were in this situation.
"Is my uncle still alive? Is this involved with this?" Lennox was having a hard time processing the information and connecting the dots. He desperately wanted to understand the full extent of his family’s involvement in his father’s death.
Carlos Cheng shook his head.
"No, Nox. Your uncle has nothing to do with it. It was me who was responsible for your father’s death. But to answer your other question, yes, Harvey Qin is still alive, but he cut all his ties with the Qin family and didn’t want anything to do with them. All the blame is on me, Nox, and I don’t expect you’ll forgive me."
Carlos’s family had been serving the Qin family for generations. He grew up with Harvey Qin, who had been his companion for so many years. He knew him better than the rest of the members of the Qin family.
Harvey, the youngest of the Qin siblings, knew his chances to succeed in the family business were quite slim. This was why he turned his interest into something else, something his entire family believed wouldn’t be enough to bring food to the table. However, Carlos always saw potential in Harvey’s passion for art and encouraged him to pursue it.
Despite the disapproval from their families, Carlos stood by Harvey’s side, believing in his talent and determination. Harvey poured his passion into the arts and doing paintings, even going as far as attending an art school while his older siblings were pursuing a degree in business and management.
Harvey Qin was considered the odd one in his family, but he remained steadfast in pursuing a career in art. Harvey’s talent began to shine as time passed, and he started gaining recognition for his unique style and creativity.
Abigail Li, who was the fiancée of his older brother, Richard, also had a keen eye for the arts and frequently visited galleries and art exhibitions. She was immediately drawn to Harvey’s work and saw the potential in his talent. Abigail encouraged Harvey to showcase his paintings at local art shows, further boosting his confidence and allowing him to connect with other artists and art enthusiasts.
They became good friends and often spent hours discussing their artistic visions and inspirations. Abigail’s support and guidance played a significant role in Harvey’s growth as an artist, as she introduced him to new techniques and encouraged him to experiment with different mediums.
This friendship eventually bloomed into a romantic relationship, as they discovered a deep connection through their shared love for art and similar values and aspirations. Carlos witnessed with his own eyes how Harvey was happy with Abigail.
However, Harvey thought he had made a mistake. The woman he loved was already betrothed to his elder brother, and he betrayed Richard by being with Abigail. Abigail begged Harvey to stay with her to buy her some time to persuade her father to call off the engagement, but Richard caught them.
A nasty fight ensued between the two Qin brothers, with Harvey being disadvantaged as Richard was physically stronger. Amid the chaos, Carlos intervened to stop the fight and protect his friend. Realizing the depth of their feelings for each other, Carlos urged Harvey and Abigail to find a way to be together without causing harm to anyone else involved.
Things quickly went south after that. His father made Harvey break up with Abigail and told him to travel abroad. Harvey didn’t choose to leave and abandon Abigail. He was forced to do so. Carlos thought it was unfair that Harvey had to sacrifice his happiness for the sake of others. The fight Harvey had with his older brother also left his right leg crippled, and he had to use crutches to get around.
Harvey did leave and never returned after Abigail married his brother, leaving Carlos in disarray over the circumstances. He witnessed how horrible married life was for Abigail and watched her slowly sink into depression.
When Lennox was born, it was as if a ray of sunshine had entered Abigail’s life. He became her everything, the only solace she had in life. Lennox brought Abigail joy and purpose, and she dedicated herself to being the best mother she could be for him.
In contrast, Richard despised their son and had never been around Lennox during the earliest years of his life. When he and Abigail divorced and fought for Lennox’s custody, Abigail begged Carlos on her knees to stay with her son, fearing that Richard’s influence would harm Lennox’s well-being. Seeing the desperation in Abigail’s eyes, Carlos promised to protect and support Lennox no matter what.
He pretended to be civil with Richard, not causing trouble for Lennox’s sake. He raised the boy as if he were his own, providing him with guidance Richard never gave. Carlos became Lennox’s rock, always there to listen and offer advice. He made sure Lennox had every opportunity to succeed and encouraged him to pursue his passions. He chose to remain single and not have a family of his own to be with Lennox.
Lennox was a brilliant child from a young age, and Carlos never ceased to be amazed by his intelligence and potential. He wasn’t the only one who noticed it; he was also the patriarch of the Qin family. This was why Lennox’s grandfather stepped forward, saw to it that Lennox would receive the best education he could have, and groomed him as the next heir of the family.
Carlos was content with what he had. Harvey assured him that he was living just fine with Carlos and that he could stay with Lennox for as long as he wanted. Carlos thought that everything was going well for Lennox and that his path to success was certain until he stumbled on something.
