Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 376: Losing You (2)
Adrienne was startled awake by the explosion. At first, she was disoriented; then, it dawned on her that she was lying in Lennox’s arms. She must have fainted from the shock and the resulting lack of blood in her brain. Now that she was awake, she could feel the pain from the bump on her head. After the initial shock wore off, she was aware that Adrienne wasn’t moving enough to get blood to her brain.
"Adrienne? Can you hear me?" Lennox asked worriedly.
Adrienne nodded weakly, trying to push herself up from Lennox’s arms. She winced in pain, and Lennox quickly helped her sit upright.
"I’m fine," she said, trying to reassure him. "Just a little dizzy. Where’s Val?"
Lennox glanced at Hunter, seeing him put Valerie on the stretcher before allowing the medic to check on her.
"She’s with your brother. The medic is checking her stats right now."
Lennox looked at her, concern still etched on his face.
"You took a pretty hard hit on your head. You need to get checked out."
Adrienne knew that Lennox was right. She did feel a little dizzy, and her head was throbbing with pain. She knew that she needed medical attention. But right now, she couldn’t help but feel grateful that they were all alive and safe.
Adrienne let out a sigh of relief. She didn’t know what she would do if anything happened to Valerie. She couldn’t bear to lose her friend, especially after everything they’d been through together. As the medic finished checking on Valerie, they helped her into the ambulance. Adrienne and Lennox followed behind, bringing Myrtle with them to the hospital. The drive to the hospital was quiet, with only the car engine and Myrtle’s occasional sniffles breaking the silence.
As they arrived at the hospital, Nathan was waiting for them at the entrance with Katherine. His eyes flickered with concern as he saw Valerie’s shaken state; her right arm was bound to a sling, and she had several bruises on her body. He immediately stepped forward to embrace her in a tight hug. Katherine followed closely behind him, her face a mask of worry.
"Valerie, are you okay?" Nathan asked as he pulled away from the hug.
Valerie nodded weakly, her eyes still red from crying. "I’m just glad to be out of there."
Nathan turned to Adrienne, concern written all over his face. "What happened?"
But Lennox stepped forward because his wife also needed immediate medical attention. Instead, he filled Nathan in on the events leading to Valerie’s kidnapping and subsequent rescue. Nathan’s expression hardened as he listened, and he swore under his breath when he heard about Airi’s involvement.
"We can’t let her get away with this," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "I’ll make sure she pays for what she’s done."
"There’s no need," Lennox said with a pensive face. "Airi tried to murder Val with my wife and Myrtle by running a car towards them. Karma is too fast to get on her, and she was stuck in her car and got burned along with it."
Lennox thought Airi was lucky to have been killed in that explosion because if she survived, he swore to make her life a living hell for daring to put Adrienne and her friends’ lives in danger.
Katherine covered her mouth in disbelief.
"That’s...that’s terrible," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I can’t believe Airi would do something like that," Nathan said, his voice shaking. "She was always so quiet and reserved."
"She was also manipulative and deceitful," Myrtle said, her voice tinged with anger. "She got what she deserved."
She didn’t suffer any serious injuries except for the cut on her knee.
Nathan had a conflicting expression, but he decided to deal with Airi later and focus on Valerie’s treatment.
Valerie was taken for further medical attention. Adrienne was also rushed to the emergency room to get her head injury looked at. Lennox and Myrtle waited anxiously in the waiting room, praying their loved ones would be okay.
After what seemed like hours, a doctor finally emerged from the emergency room. Lennox and Myrtle stood up, their hearts pounding with anticipation.
"Mrs. Qin is going to be fine," the doctor said with a smile. "She has a mild concussion, but there’s no internal bleeding or other serious injuries. We’ll keep her overnight for observation, but she should make a full recovery."
Lennox let out a sigh of relief, feeling like a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. The memory of Airi’s car aiming at his wife was still clear in his mind. Lennox had no doubt this would turn into a nightmare if she had gotten hurt or worse. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing the love of his life. He turned to Myrtle, seeing her visibly relaxed now that Adrienne was going to be okay.
"Thank you, doctor," Lennox said with gratitude. "Can we see her now?"
When they were finally allowed inside, they saw Adrienne and Valerie lying on a hospital bed. Myrtle went to Valerie’s bedside, taking her hand in hers and giving her a gentle smile.
"How are you feeling?" she asked.
Valerie smiled weakly. "I’m a little sore, but I’ll survive. Thanks for being there for me, Myrtle."
Myrtle squeezed her hand. "Always."
Lennox went to Adrienne’s bedside, taking her hand in his. He leaned in to kiss her forehead, feeling relieved that she was going to be okay.
Adrienne smiled when she saw him, grateful to have him by her. She knew that the event earlier had given him quite a scare.
As the night wore on, Lennox stayed by Adrienne’s side, holding her hand and watching her sleep. Myrtle kept him company, occasionally dozing off in the chair beside him. He couldn’t imagine what would have happened if they hadn’t managed to save Valerie and Adrienne. The thought of losing either of them was too much to bear.
Eventually, Lennox drifted off to sleep, his head resting on the edge of the bed. He dreamed of a world where Alistair and the Qin family had never existed and had never faced danger or fear. He dreamed of a world where he and Adrienne could live in peace and happiness, free from any threats or harm.
But he knew that such a world was impossible. All he could do was protect his wife and loved ones with all his might and hope that they could face whatever dangers came their way.
