Chapter 375: Losing You (1)

While Valerie waited, Hunter joined his team to assist the police in apprehending the human traffickers and saving the victims. Adrienne arrived at the scene with Lennox and Myrtle. Numerous police cars and officers blocked the entire area, preventing anyone from entering or leaving.

Sirens filled the air as helicopters circled overhead, adding to the situation’s intensity. Adrienne expected Nathan and Katherine to arrive shortly, as she had already informed them of Valerie’s whereabouts and the urgent need for their assistance.

As soon as Adrienne heard from her brother that he had found Valerie, she rushed to come here to see Valerie herself. When Valerie heard Adrienne calling her name, the responding medical team was checking her for injuries. She turned around, wrapped in a blanket, and saw her friends.

"Addie!" Her tears burst uncontrollably as she ran towards Adrienne, throwing her arms around her as she continued to cry. "I thought I’d never see you again."

Adrienne held onto Valerie tightly, relief washing through her seeing her friend had no serious injuries. However, she feared this encounter would leave Valerie traumatized. She whispered soothing words into Valerie’s ear, trying to calm her trembling body.

"It’s fine now. No one can take you away." Adrienne reassured her.

Myrtle joined them, and Adrienne released Valerie so Myrtle could hug her, too. Myrtle’s presence provided Valerie comfort and support, as they had been close friends for years. Adrienne watched as Myrtle embraced Valerie, knowing their support would help her heal from the emotional distress she had experienced.

Once Valerie calmed down, she sat on the step at the back of the ambulance and solemnly said, "Your brother said Airi tried to sell me to the human trafficking ring. How could she do this to me, Addie?"

"We will never understand how her mind works, Val. Don’t blame yourself. Airi must have found herself in a desperate situation and chose to make a terrible decision. It’s important to remember that her actions do not reflect who you are as a person." Adrienne replied.

She’d never thought Airi held such vicious thoughts at such a young age. Her uncle, who was involved in illegal activities, might have influenced her. Airi had lived in luxury from a young age, and she might have found it difficult to leave as a commoner after she was kicked out of the Xia family.

"Do you know where she is?" Adrienne asked. It would be best if Valerie and the Xia family dealt with Airi once and for all to stop her from committing atrocious acts that could potentially put them in danger.

Valerie shook her head.

"I’ve never seen her. Only a man frequently visited me while being kept inside." She told Adrienne.

Adrienne fell silent. This nagging feeling was in the back of her mind—a sense of unease. She couldn’t shake off the thought that Airi’s presence was lingering, like a dark cloud ready to unleash its storm. Adrienne knew they couldn’t afford to underestimate her, especially now that she had nothing to lose.

"Alright. Let’s take you out of here. Nathan and I agreed to meet you at the hospital, but I asked Lennox to bring us here to see you instead. Let’s get going."

Valerie nodded, grateful for her friends’ support. Myrtle helped her to stand up, and they walked together towards Adrienne’s car. A sudden noise caught their attention as they were about to get in.

Lennox, who was asking for an update from one of the officers, noticed the speeding car aimed at his wife and her friends. His face blanched upon seeing them in a dangerous situation.

"Addie! Watch out!" He yelled at the top of his lungs, hoping it wasn’t too late for the three women.

They turned around and saw a car driving straight towards them at full speed. Adrienne pushed Valerie and Myrtle out of the way, narrowly avoiding the impact herself. The car crashed into the ambulance, causing another commotion around the area.

Adrienne, Valerie, and Myrtle were lying on the ground, trying to catch their breaths. As they looked up, they saw a figure seated behind the steering wheel named Airi. Airi ignored the blood that was trickling down the side of her face because she was so furious.

Valerie’s heart raced as she realized that Airi was the one who had caused the crash. She felt a sudden surge of anger towards her adopted sister, who had betrayed her trust so callously.

"You don’t deserve to live, Valerie!" Airi screamed, her voice shaking with fury. "You and your pathetic friends are to blame for everything that’s happened to me! Now you’re going to pay for it with your life!"

Valerie felt a sense of dread wash over her as she realized that Airi was planning to kill her. She looked around frantically, searching for a way to escape.

"Run, Val," she heard Adrienne mumble, who was trying to keep her consciousness. Valerie then rushed to her feet, trying to move as far as she could from Airi’s car. She ran towards the officers stationed nearby, hoping they could save her from Airi’s madness.

Everyone nearby was running away from the scene now that they realized that Airi was out of control and her rage was directed at Valerie. Lennox rushed to Adrienne’s side, fear gripping his heart. He never felt this fear until now. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing Adrienne. Adrienne was lying on the ground, and the sound of her labored breathing was causing his chest to ache.

He touched her shoulder and whispered, "Don’t move; I’ll take care of Valerie and Myrtle."

Savoring the moment when he had Adrienne in his embrace, he wanted to hold on to her for as long as possible. However, he knew it would be safer for Adrienne if he brought Valerie and Myrtle to a safe place. However, another crashing sound caught his attention. Lennox saw Valerie lying on the ground, unconscious, while the car Airi was using was caught in flames. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

From the corner of his eye, he spotted his brother-in-law rushing towards Valerie, carrying her away from the burning car.

The car is going to blow! Get as far away from it as you can!" Hunter yelled at them.

Myrtle stood up with wobbly legs. Lennox lifted Adrienne up and carried her in his arms. Before long, they heard a loud sound as the car exploded. He watched as Airi tried to exit her car, but the impact had caused her to be stuck. She cried for help, but no one dared to rescue her as the fire grew. Lennox knew that Airi had joined the blackened souls in hell.
