Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 370: Easier Said Than Done (2)
"I would have never thought I’d confide in you, Adrienne. Thank you for listening." Audrey smiled weakly. "You are far from what the other Jiang family members claimed you to be."
Adrienne chuckled. "You should know better than to believe everything you hear. People’s opinions can be biased and misleading."
The two women finished their lunch in a comfortable silence. Adrienne felt a sense of gratitude towards Audrey for being so honest with her as they parted ways. She knew their paths would cross again in the future, and she hoped that when that time came, she could support Audrey in any way she could.
On their way back to her penthouse, Noah told his sisters about their young nephew and how he would like to see him again.
Samantha laughed and teased her youngest brother.
"I doubt you will be as thrilled once Addie and Nox get their first baby." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Noah furrowed his brows as he looked at his sister before shaking his head.
"Mom said she and Nox wouldn’t have a baby soon."
He now regarded Adrienne as his mother, even though his adoption papers hadn’t been finalized yet.
"And even if I do, why would I be upset? The baby would either become my younger brother or sister. I would still get to be an older sibling and have someone to play with." Noah’s eyes lit up with excitement at the thought of having a new addition to the family.
Samantha grinned and told Scarlett. "The baby wants to be promoted to an older brother soon."
Scarlett chuckled at Samantha’s playful remark. "Well, Noah is already embracing becoming a big brother. He’s eager to have a new playmate and take on that role."
The seven-year-old boy pouted at his sisters and crossed his arms.
"What’s wrong with that? Liam and Vaughn told me that being a big brother is the best thing ever! They get to teach their younger siblings cool things and be their protector."
Scarlett and Samantha exchanged amused glances before Samantha replied, "Well, Liam and Vaughn are right, but being a big brother also comes with responsibilities. You’ll also have to set a good example and help care for the baby."
Adrienne watched in amusement. She never knew Noah had this kind of conversation with his older brothers, but she was relieved there wouldn’t be any issues once she and Lennox welcomed their new baby. Noah seemed eager to embrace his role as a big brother, and Adrienne felt confident that he would handle it well.
As they entered the penthouse, Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a sense of contentment wash over her. She was grateful for her family, Lennox, and the life they had built together. She had come a long way from the girl who completely relied on Alistair for everything.
Noah ran towards the living room and began playing with his toys. Samantha and Scarlett followed behind, chatting about their plans for the evening. Adrienne smiled at them and joined Noah in the living room. She checked her unread messages and emails on her phone before showering.
Her brows slightly furrowed when she noticed several miscalls from an unknown number. Curiosity piqued, and Adrienne hesitated momentarily before deciding to return the call. As she dialed the number, she couldn’t help but wonder who could be trying to reach her and what they wanted.
"Thank God you answered, Miss Jiang. I’ve been trying to call you. I’m Nathan Xia, Valerie’s brother."
Adrienne was surprised. She only met Valerie’s brother once during one of her visits to the Xia manor with Myrtle.
"Mr. Xia, is something the matter? Something I could help you with?"
"Yes!" Nathan immediately responded, "We’ve been trying to reach Valerie for the past few days, but she hasn’t been answering her phone. We’re worried about her and thought you might know where she is."
Adrienne froze in her seat, fear gripping her heart.
"No, but I did meet her last weekend before I went to Jinling. Are you sure she’s missing?"
She had a bad feeling about this. Adrienne’s mind raced as she tried to piece together the events of that weekend. She remembered Valerie mentioning a trip but couldn’t recall any specifics. The worry in Nathan’s voice only heightened her concern.
"It appears so," Nathan replied before cussing under his breath. "I told her never to leave the estate alone or bring a bodyguard. But she’s always been stubborn and independent. I just hope she didn’t get herself into trouble this time."
Adrienne’s heart raced as Nathan spoke, and she tried to remain calm, but the worry she felt was palpable. She knew Valerie could care for herself, but something about the situation made her uneasy.
"Have you contacted the authorities?" Adrienne asked, hoping that they had taken some action. She knew she had to do something to help, even if it meant calling in some favors.
"Yes, we’ve filed a report, but they haven’t found anything yet," Nathan replied with a sigh. "I’m hoping that maybe you could help us track her down. You were the last to see her and might have some information that could lead us to her."
Adrienne nodded, her mind already working on a plan. "Okay, let me see what I can find out. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I know anything."
"Thank you," Nathan said, his voice filled with relief. "I’m sorry to have bothered you, Miss Jiang."
"Don’t apologize," Adrienne replied. "We’ll do everything we can to find her. Just keep us updated if you hear anything."
She promised Nathan that she would do everything she could to help, and they exchanged information before she ended the call.
As she sat there, Adrienne wondered what could have happened to Valerie. A million different scenarios ran through her mind, and she couldn’t help but feel anxious.
She couldn’t help but feel Airi was involved in Valerie’s sudden disappearance. Her mind was already racing with possibilities. She knew how dangerous it could be for a woman to be alone in this city, especially one from a wealthy family.
Adrienne quickly got up from her chair and headed to her home office. She began to search for any leads that could help her find Valerie. She checked all of Valerie’s social media accounts, but there was no activity. She then tried to retrace her steps and remember any details Valerie mentioned about her trip.
