Chapter 335: Shooting Oneself in the Foot (1)

"I didn’t expect you would come here sooner," Adrienne commented when it dawned on her how fast her husband arrived, considering it hadn’t been too long since she asked Myrtle to call him.

"I was buying sweets at the nearby cafe when Myrtle called me. I rushed over as soon as I heard the urgency in her voice. It’s surprising how quickly I made it here."

When he heard from Myrtle that Alistair had found Adrienne at Purple Cloud, Lennox feared that the man would be able to get a hold of Adrienne’s fears. He knew his wife’s nightmares weren’t over, and Adrienne still struggled with the trauma she had experienced. Lennox hoped that Alistair’s presence wouldn’t worsen her condition and that he could provide the support she needed during this difficult time.

"Fortunately, I made it in time." Lennox smiled as he drew her into his embrace, resting the side of his face against her head.

Adrienne melted into his arms, finding solace in his comforting presence. She whispered softly, "I don’t know what I would do without you, Len."

"I’m proud of you, Addie. You stood up for yourself and refused to let his words bring you down. You’re stronger than you think." Lennox’s voice was filled with admiration and love as he gently stroked her hair.

"I expected him to find me, but not this soon." Adrienne admitted, "I thought I would have more time to prepare myself emotionally." She sighed, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety at the thought of facing her past.

"I heard what you told him. I was worried he might lay a hand on you, so I hurriedly entered without your permission." Lennox murmured into her hair.

When he heard Adrienne standing up not only for herself but also defending her choice to be with him, Lennox was over the moon. Truth be told, he had been unsure of how she truly felt about him and their relationship. But her words reassured him and gave him hope for their future together. He knew they would face challenges, but he was willing to fight for their love and prove himself worthy of her trust.

"Don’t make me regret choosing you, Len. I have enough regrets to live from my past life already."

Adrienne’s voice held a hint of vulnerability, her eyes searching for reassurance. Lennox tightened his grip around her, promising silently that he would never let her down. He understood the weight of her words and was determined to prove she hadn’t made a mistake by choosing to be with him.

"You are turning twenty-two soon. Other young women your age enjoyed partying and exploring their independence, but you chose to be with me instead."

Adrienne pulled away from his embrace to look at his face. She could sense the worry in his tone, and she never thought Lennox was still plagued by the possibility of her leaving him in the future.

"I never thought you were a mistake," she said softly, her voice filled with sincerity. "Being with you has brought me more joy and fulfillment than any party or moment of independence ever could. I chose you because you make me feel safe, loved, and understood."

They were the things she longed to have in her previous life when she was married to Alistair. Adrienne never thought love would come to her when she met Lennox Qin. But from the moment they met, she felt an undeniable connection and knew he was the missing piece in her life. Lennox had shown her a love she never thought possible, and she was grateful every day for the happiness he brought into her world.

"I didn’t know you were so worried about my age, hubby," Adrienne chuckled at her husband’s flushed cheeks. "Is this why you haven’t touched me for the past three weeks?"

Lennox blushed even deeper, his embarrassment evident. He mumbled some incoherent words about how he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable or feel pressured.

Adrienne reached out and gently placed her hand on his, reassuring him that their connection went far beyond physical intimacy. She reminded him their love was built on trust, understanding, and a deep emotional bond that surpassed any age difference.

"It’s not that I regretted marrying you, Addie, but I was aware that I married you hastily." Lennox admitted, "That’s why I didn’t object when you wanted to do something. I wanted to allow you to explore your passions and dreams without feeling tied down by our relationship. I wanted you to have the chance to fully experience life and pursue your own happiness, even if it meant taking risks or making decisions that I might not fully understand or agree with."

Adrienne’s eyes softened as she listened to her husband’s words. She knew that Lennox always had her best interests at heart, even when it meant letting her go and giving her space to grow. His unwavering support and encouragement had given her the courage to pursue her dreams and find her own voice, something she never thought possible before.

Alistair had taken everything from her, including her freedom to do things she enjoyed and her ability to decide for herself. Adrienne felt trapped and suffocated in their relationship, constantly questioning her own worth and abilities. She longed for the independence and autonomy that Lennox had always given her, but she feared the consequences of standing up to Alistair.

"I know that, Len. And I appreciate everything you’ve done for me." Adrienne said, a small smile playing on her lips. "But you don’t have to worry about me leaving you. I’m not going anywhere."

"You... you aren’t going to divorce me after our two-year contract is over?" Len’s heart skipped a beat at Adrienne’s words. He feared their agreement to be together for only two years would lead to an inevitable separation.

Adrienne raised a slender brow before harshly pulling his collar, forcing him to face her. Lennox was slightly startled by her bluntness. His wife rarely initiates being intimate with him, and he never thought Adrienne would notice their lack of intimacy for the past few weeks.

"Mr. Qin, I thought I made it clear that I’m not planning on leaving your side for the rest of our lives. What made you think I’d leave you now? You have avoided me for the past three weeks. I thought you had already gotten tired of me." She cupped her chin and tilted his face up to look at her. "Am I not enough for you?"

Lennox’s eyes widened in surprise. He hadn’t expected her to be so blunt, but he was grateful for her honesty. He had been so caught up in his worries and insecurities that he had forgotten to communicate with her.

"I’m sorry, Addie. I didn’t mean to avoid you. I just didn’t want to pressure you into anything you weren’t ready for." Lennox apologized, his voice laced with regret. "I know I’ve been distant lately, but it’s not because you’re not enough for me. You mean the world to me, Addie. I just needed some time to sort through my own emotions."

Adrienne softened her grip on his collar and ran her fingers through his hair, soothing him. "I know that, Len. And I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. But you don’t have to worry about me leaving you. I’m not going anywhere."

She leaned in and kissed him deeply, her hands running through his hair. Their kisses were demanding and filled with passion and longing that had been building between them for far too long. At that moment, they both knew that their connection was undeniable and that their fears of losing each other were unfounded.

Lennox responded eagerly, his hands trailing down her back, pulling her closer to him. The kiss was filled with passion but also a sense of calm and comfort. It was the kind of kiss that spoke volumes about their love for each other.

He missed her. He missed the way Adrienne touched him, the way her fingertips would trace patterns on his skin, leaving a trail of warmth in their wake. He longed for how she would look at him, with eyes full of adoration and understanding.

Adrienne rarely expressed her feelings, so he was surprised by how vehemently she defended her decision to be with him. Lennox knew Adrienne had chosen him because of his background, and he never thought Adrienne would come to love him after her initial rejection. However, he never knew what kind of trauma she suffered in the past, but he understood her better after hearing her confession.

As they broke away from the kiss, Lennox rested his forehead against Adrienne’s, his breathing heavy. "I love you, Addie. I’m sorry for making you worry. I promise to communicate with you better and show you how much you mean to me. Allow me to rectify my mistakes. I neglected my wife’s needs for too long."

He grinned at his wife, making Adrienne laugh in amusement. Lennox loved the sound of her laugh, and he didn’t think he’d grow tired of her.

"And here I thought you had enough of me. But it seems like you can’t get enough. I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder."

They both chuckled. Lennox reached out and took Adrienne’s hand, intertwining their fingers. He knew he could never be without her.
