Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 302: No Remorse (1)
"How could that bitch be so lucky?" Elise muttered as she paced back and forth in the living area of their home. She had returned home after finishing her studies overseas and was waiting for the announcement of her engagement with Prosecutor Ji’s son. Although she had yet to meet her fiance, she heard from Cayden that he was quite a decent man.
"No wonder she was so arrogant the last time we’d seen her." Cayden scoffed as he sat on the couch. The mere thought of Adrienne and Hunter was enough to sour his mood. He still couldn’t accept that Adrienne’s bodyguard was supposed to be the real heir of the Jiang family.
"She must have seduced him," Camilla nodded, thinking that her stepdaughter was unpredictable and untouchable now. She took a liking to humiliating and bullying Adrienne because she just looked like her mother.
It’s been a long time since Adrienne and the Zhao family took away Rosemary Zhao, and Camilla had no idea whether that woman was alive. Camilla hoped that Rosemary was wasting away and would die eventually.
"But how did Ayla manage to convince Mr. Han to marry her? I thought Mr. Han made a deal with Dad to make Adrienne marry him in exchange for investing in our company." Elise asked her mother.
Camilla gave her daughter a knowing smile. "Well, my dear, sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned. Ayla must have had her way of persuading Mr. Han, or perhaps there were other factors at play that we’re unaware of."
Even if Ayla didn’t say it, they knew she was infatuated with Alistair Han. There was no way Ayla wouldn’t do anything after learning the intention of her grandfather to marry Adrienne to Alistair. Among the granddaughters of the Jiang family, Ayla was the most conceited. She always believed she could get whatever she wanted, and her determination was unmatched. It wouldn’t be surprising if she had pulled off some sort of scheme to win Mr. Han’s affections, even if it meant going against her grandfather’s wishes.
"Don’t worry about Ayla and Adrienne, Elise. Even if they have Lennox Qin and Alistair Han, you aren’t behind them, as you are to be the next Madam Ji. You only need to focus on gaining the Ji family’s approval. As for Adrienne, her luck will run out eventually as soon as she loses the favor of Lennox Qin." Camilla told her daughter.
She knew that her husband was upset that they couldn’t take advantage and get Lennox Qin’s favor because Adrienne had already cut her ties with the Jiang family. Regardless of Lennox Qin not being part of the Qin Corporation, having the support of Huayi for Jiang Corporation was enough to solve most of their problems.
Camilla grimaced at the thought of how lucky Adrienne was. Lennox Qin had just returned, and yet Adrienne had already wrapped the man around her finger in such a short time. Camilla couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy towards Adrienne’s ability to effortlessly gain Lennox Qin’s favor. She wondered what Adrienne’s secret was, as it seemed like Lennox Qin was completely smitten with her.
As for Ayla and Alistair, Camilla wasn’t sure what to think of it. Perhaps it didn’t matter to Old Master Jiang which granddaughter of his would marry into the Han family so long they could play their part to save the company.
Lewis was rarely home these days as they waited for the arrival of the new CEO of Jiang Corporation.
Kristoff Fu was a regional manager for an international brand. He was known for being able to make a miracle, saving a special line of the brand by doubling the sales of the products in just two years. It took a lot of time for Lewis and the board of Jiang Corporation to invite Kristoff Fu to head the company for a short period of time.
"I know, Mom. You don’t have to remind me." Elise answered with a blank expression on her face. She knew their family business was on the brink of failing, courtesy of Adrienne.
"But what about Hunter Nian?" Cayden questioned their mother. "Mom, you need to be careful. Although there’s no definite evidence that you are involved in Eleanor Nian’s death, Adrienne and Hunter would blame you."
The smile on Camilla’s face slightly faltered as she heard Hunter Nian’s name. She and her husband argued about her failing to get rid of Lewis’s firstborn son. Lewis blamed her for the trouble Hunter brought them. Now that Hunter knew his real identity, he threatened Cayden’s position in the Jiang family.
"What about it? If there’s no evidence, why should I worry about that bastard?" Camilla scoffed. Like their mother, Adrienne and Hunter remained a thorn in her side.
"I’m just asking. I don’t think you should underestimate Hunter. He’s not someone you can easily get back at or take advantage of." Cayden added.
"Hunter’s no threat to me or Cayden," Camilla said. "What could he possibly do? He won’t use his military authority to intimidate me, and he and Adrienne had no proof to blame me."
"Just be careful. Even though Hunter claimed he didn’t want anything from our family, we can’t lower our guard, especially now that he has the backing of the Zhao family." Cayden warned.
"Would he dare?" Camilla challenged. "He and Adrienne should have already come after me if they found any evidence that could pin me on Eleanor’s death. It’s not my fault his adoptive mother stepped forward to protect him. That day, the one who should have died was Hunter, not Eleanor. He could only blame himself for being alive on her stead."
Cayden hesitated for a moment, considering his mother’s words. Despite the confidence in her voice, he knew that Hunter was a dangerous man, not one to be taken lightly. Cayden had seen firsthand what Hunter was capable of when protecting Adrienne, and he knew that his mother’s arrogance could cost her dearly in the end.
