Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 300: Can I Call You Mommy? (1)
Noah Qin was now seven years old, but there were still things that remained the same. Although he grew up as a handsome young boy, he was still not used to being friendly with his classmates. However, this didn’t mean Noah disliked his new classmates.
Adrienne, his caring sister-in-law, dropped him and his older sister, Scarlett, off at their new school earlier with a gentle reminder to try and make friends. Noah understood her intentions, but he couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by the thought of initiating conversation and his anxiety whenever someone came to speak to him.
Noah stood by the edge of the playground, eyes scanning the area for a familiar face, but there was none. He then noticed a young girl seated on a bench, engrossed in a magazine. Intrigued, he cautiously approached her.
"What are you reading?" he asked softly, trying not to startle his classmate.
The girl glanced up from her magazine, her eyes widening in surprise. She quickly closed the magazine and shyly smiled at him.
"I’m looking at the photo of my big sister," she replied, her voice gentle and warm. "My big sister appears on TV."
Noah tilted his head slightly as he pondered her answer.
"My older brother and sister appear on TV, too. Does that mean they are popular?"
The girl giggled softly, her eyes brightening at Noah’s question.
"I think so. People always say that my sister would be popular because she’s in movies and commercials these days."
Noah nodded thoughtfully. "I don’t think my brother and sister-in-law appear on those. They are busy running their own companies."
He sat beside her on the bench and watched as she opened her magazine again.
"What’s your name?" he asked, trying to keep the conversation going.
The girl glanced at him for a moment before answering.
"I’m Lily. Lily Yun. What’s yours?"
"Noah Qin," he replied, feeling a slight grin spread across his face. He couldn’t wait to share the news of meeting someone with his sister-in-law. Adrienne had promised to wait for the end of his class before she returned to Jinling to accompany his older brother.
When the bell rang, indicating that the class was about to resume, Noah and Lily returned to the school building together. Noah then thought that making friends was indeed challenging. When he thought about it, he wondered how his older brothers and sisters made friends at their school.
The rest of the class felt tolerable for Noah. With Lily now seated next to him, he could keep calm and focus on their teacher’s words. He frowned as he listened intently to their lesson.
Though it was their first day of school, their homeschool teacher had already given them the course outline they were to study for the entire school year.
Noah already learned most of them because he learned them from his school overseas, and some of them were taught to him by his eldest brother, Lennox.
The rain started to pour down in Chiangsu City. Rain splattered over the brown roofs of buildings, obscuring the occasional rooftop. Large raindrops that fell from the sky covered streets, sidewalks, and cars in puddles. In the distance, the gray, foggy air let it fall in any direction, anywhere, like a thick curtain of falling rain.
Noah liked the sound of rain. It soothed him and drowned out the annoying sounds of the people around him and the city’s noise.
As the day progressed, Noah found himself becoming more and more comfortable with Lily. They shared small talk during breaks and even sat together during lunch. Noah was surprised to find that he was actually enjoying himself. It was a refreshing change from his usual isolation in new environments.
During their last class of the day, the teacher announced that they would be grouping up for a class project. Noah felt a wave of anxiety wash over him at the thought of being randomly paired up with someone he didn’t know. However, to his relief, the teacher announced they would be allowed to choose their groups.
Noah asked Lily, "Do you want to work on the project together?"
Lily smiled and nodded eagerly. "Yes, let’s do it!"
The smile that broke out across Noah’s face was genuine, and he felt his heart swell with a newfound sense of belonging. He felt like he had found a friend for the first time in a long time.
As the day came to a close, Noah thanked Lily for making his first day at school a pleasant one.
The rain continued to pour down in Chiangshi City, but Noah felt a warmth in his chest that made him feel impervious to the cold.
Noah watched as his classmates were taken away one after another. He saw how their faces broke into a wide smile as their mother arrived to pick them up. Lily’s mother finally came, and the girl bid him goodbye.
This wasn’t the first time Noah felt outcast. When he started noticing his surroundings, her aunt Bea became his primary care provider. He knew his real mother died from childbirth, and he couldn’t help being envious of seeing other kids with their mothers.
"The parents are arriving late today because of the heavy rain." He heard his homeroom teacher say to her fellow teacher
"The weather forecast didn’t mention that it would be this bad." The other teacher replied.
"Let’s wait a little more. They should arrive soon."
Finally, Adrienne arrived with Irina. She held a small blue raincoat in her left hand while her other hand was holding a dripping wet umbrella.
Noah jolted up from his seat and beamed his sister-in-law a smile.
"Addie!" He ran towards her in a hurry. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Adrienne greeted his homeroom teacher, who was slightly stunned upon seeing her. She then patted Noah’s head and took his school bag from him.
"Did I make you wait for too long?" She asked with a gentle tone.
Noah shook his head. He didn’t mind waiting for Adrienne because he knew she would always keep her promise.
The parents of the remaining children finally arrived. They were startled to see Adrienne, as she was recently on the news because she became Lennox Qin’s wife. Unlike her cousins, Adrienne rarely shows up at social functions, but rumors surround her.
Irina shot them a scathing glare, intimidating them. They hurriedly went away with their children, leaving Adrienne and Noah behind. They didn’t dare make a scene before their children.
"Mrs. Qin, I didn’t expect you’d come today." The homeroom teacher told Adrienne once she recovered from her shock.
Adrienne smiled at her politely and gave her a slight nod.
"I promised my brother-in-law that I would pick him up from school today," she replied.
Noah looked up at her with a grateful look in his eyes. He knew Adrienne was busy with her responsibilities, yet she always made time for him.
The rain was still pouring heavily as they walked out of the school building. Adrienne handed Noah the small blue raincoat and helped him put it on.
"Did you have a good first day of school?" she asked him, taking the umbrella from Irina.
Noah nodded, feeling a sense of pride wash over him. "I made a friend today; her name is Lily," he replied, beaming.
Adrienne smiled warmly at him. "That’s great, Noah. I’m proud of you."
