Chapter 293: Two Mistress of the House (1)

The rain continued to pour outside, but Adrienne felt her mood drastically improve once she revealed her tragic past life to her husband. She knew it was a lot for him to take in and that he would need time to accept the truth.

Adrienne gave him the rest of the afternoon to give it some thought. She pretended everything was alright and joined him and his siblings for dinner, but she occasionally threw curious glances at Lennox. Lennox remained the same, grinning at her and holding her hand beneath the table as they listened to Noah’s story.

Once they were ready to retire for the night, Adrienne hesitated to bring up the issue. Lennox closed the book he was reading and gestured to her to join him on the bed, patting the space on his right.

"Are you still worried?" He asked as Adrienne sat next to him on the bed.

"Don’t you find it disappointing? I know I’ve been foolish before." Adrienne asked in return.

"My sweet Addie, no one in this world has experienced foolishness in their lifetime. Even though I am far from perfect, I try to be better for everyone. It was a pity we didn’t meet in your past life." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"But I..." Adrienne wanted to say she was disappointed in herself, but Lennox pressed a finger on her lips, knowing what was on her mind.

"Don’t be hard on yourself, Addie. I know you’ve done what you think is best to prolong your mother’s life. You don’t have to blame yourself for her and Myrtle’s deaths. Knowing them, I’m certain they would never put the blame on you nor would want you to see in agony because of them."

Tears sprung from Adrienne’s eyes as they fell uncontrollably. Adrienne felt alone more than ever since her mother’s and Myrtle’s deaths. She shouldn’t have accepted his marriage proposal if she knew what was waiting for her upon marrying Alistair Han. She chose the easy way out, only to experience another kind of nightmare aside from what the Jiang family had given her.

"As for Alistair Han, I understand why you fell for him. The Jiang family mistreated you and took advantage of your vulnerability. He only showed you a little bit of kindness, yet you perceive it as light in your miserable life. If you knew what kind of man Alistair Han was, I know you wouldn’t want to be with him." Lennox continued.

"You are my wife and now part of my Qin family. Whoever offends you makes an enemy out of me, Addie. I will not hate or think of you differently just because I learn of your past; instead, I understand you better now."

It was like he had found a missing piece of the puzzle and could see Adrienne in a new light. He realized that her past experiences had shaped her into the strong and resilient woman she was today, and he admired her even more for it. Lennox was determined to support her unconditionally and help her see what an amazing person she was.

"I understand now why you have a deep enmity towards Alistair." His expression darkened. Lennox knew that Adrienne hadn’t told him everything Alistair had done to him, but he could see how it affected his wife greatly.

He noticed Adrienne didn’t want anyone to touch her when they first met. Adrienne also flinched when he first touched her hand. Lennox didn’t understand its reason, but it made sense to him now.

Even though Adrienne was now living a different life from her previous one due to Alistair’s abuse, the damage had not completely healed. Lennox could see the lingering fear in Adrienne’s eyes, a constant reminder of her trauma. It was heartbreaking to witness the lasting impact of Alistair’s abuse on her, but Lennox was determined to help her overcome it.

Lennox took Adrienne’s hand and brought it to his lips, kissing it gently. "You don’t have to be afraid anymore, Addie. I will protect you. I will make sure that Alistair never hurts you again. You are safe with me."

Adrienne looked at him with tear-filled eyes, feeling overwhelmed with gratitude and love for this man, who had shown her nothing but kindness since the day they met. She threw herself into his arms, clinging to him as if he were the only thing keeping her from falling apart.

Lennox held her tightly, rubbing soothing circles on her back. He could feel her tears soaking through his shirt, but he didn’t care. All that mattered was making her feel safe and loved.

After a few minutes, Adrienne pulled away from him, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. "I don’t know what I did to deserve you," she whispered.

"You didn’t do anything, Addie. You are simply an amazing person, and I am lucky to have you in my life. I promise to always be here for you, no matter what."

Adrienne smiled at him, feeling a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in a long time. She knew there was a long road ahead of her, but with Lennox by her side, she felt she could face anything. She didn’t expect Lennox to believe her, so she remained by her side. With her confession, Adrienne thought she was ready to let go of her past and live her life for the better.

As they settled into bed, Lennox pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her. His eyes darkened, thinking of several ways to punish Alistair Han. Their fight wasn’t merely in business anymore; Alistair harmed Adrienne, and that was something Lennox couldn’t let go unpunished. He vowed to protect her and seek justice for the pain she had endured. Lennox’s determination fueled his desire to make sure Alistair faced the consequences of his actions, no matter what it took.

Adrienne felt safe and loved, and she slept soundly through the night for the first time in a long time. The nightmares that had haunted her for years finally subsided, replaced by a sense of peace and security.

--

Adrienne was packing Lennox’s clothes as they were scheduled for a business trip in Jinling City. They were to stay at her penthouse in Jinling, and she had already sent Kalista the day before to prepare the penthouse for their arrival.

As Adrienne folded Lennox’s shirts, she couldn’t help but feel grateful for the life they had built together. Alistair’s actions may have caused pain and turmoil in the past, but now she and Lennox are focused on creating a future filled with happiness together. Since she revealed her tragic past to Lennox, Adrienne felt at peace and had a clearer mind.

Once she was done with her husband’s luggage, Adrienne went down and saw Lennox arrive with Noah and Scarlett. Lennox accompanied his two siblings to enroll in their new school. Noah’s face immediately lit up when he saw Adrienne, while Scarlet smiled sweetly as she stood next to Lennox.

Adrienne greeted Lennox with a kiss on his lips and a smile. She was happy to see that he was also excited about their trip, the lines on his face softening at the sight of her. Noah and Scarlet ran towards their mother, their backpacks slung over their small shoulders.

"Hey, kids!" Adrienne said, opening her arms and hugging them both. "Are you excited for your first day of school next week?"

Noah nodded his head enthusiastically and said, "Yeah! I can’t wait to make new friends and learn new things."

Scarlett, on the other hand, looked a bit nervous. "What if nobody likes me?" she whispered to her sister-in-law.

Adrienne kneeled down and took Scarlett’s hand in hers. "Hey, listen to me. You’re smart, kind, and beautiful. Anyone would be lucky to have you as a friend. And your brother and I will always be here for you, okay?"

Scarlett smiled and nodded, feeling a bit better. She invited Noah upstairs to show her his room and introduce him to her new toys.

Lennox wrapped his arms around Adrienne from behind and kissed her neck. "You always know the right thing to say."

Adrienne giggled and turned around to face Lennox. "That’s because I have the best inspiration."

Adrienne felt the familiar sensation of desire rising in her as they looked at each other. She knew they had to leave soon but couldn’t resist the urge to feel Lennox’s body against hers. She pressed her lips against his, their tongues exploring each other’s mouths hungrily. She pushed away and lowered her head as she caught her breath.

"Not here, Len. The kids might see us." She whispered, a blush spreading on her face.

Lennox chuckled but chose to spare her this time.

They tried their best to act like a normal couple for the kids’ sake. Although Adrienne knew it would take time for the children to get used to their new life. She knew Scarlett, in particular, was having a hard time and needed time to adjust.

"But you have to make it up to me tonight," Lennox said, already conjuring up perverted scenarios in his mind.

Adrienne playfully smacked his chest, a laugh escaping her lips as Lennox led her upstairs.
