Chapter 249: Unexpected Encouter (1)

Lennox and Adrienne had just taken their seats at the restaurant when Adrienne saw Lennox’s expression turn cold. Following his gaze, Adrienne noticed a couple making their way towards them.

Adrienne recognized the man as Jacob Qin, her husband’s cousin and the newest CEO of the Qin Corporation. She didn’t need half a brain to know that the woman next to him was his wife, Audrey Xiao, who was also Lennox’s ex-fiancee.

Adrienne knew that this meeting was inevitable and that it was bound to be awkward. She braced herself for the tension that was about to fill the air, unsure of how Lennox would react to seeing his ex-fiancee after all these years.

As Jacob and Audrey approached, Lennox took a deep breath and tried to compose himself. He hadn’t seen Audrey since his disastrous accident five years ago, and he still felt a pang of hurt whenever he thought about her betrayal. But he was determined not to let her see how much she still affected him.

Adrienne watched as Lennox’s jaw tightened, a muscle ticking in his cheek. She knew that he was trying to keep his emotions under control, but she could tell that it was taking everything in him not to jolt out from his seat and leave with her.

Meanwhile, Audrey’s eyes darted around the room. Adrienne could tell that she was nervous, and for good reason. After all, it wasn’t every day that you ran into your ex-fiancee and his new partner, especially when you had cheated on him with his own cousin. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"Well, hello, Lennox." Jacob’s voice was cool and polite. "It’s good to see you again."

Lennox nodded curtly. "Jacob. Audrey."

Audrey gave him a small smile. "Hello, Lennox. It’s been a long time."

Lennox forced a smile. "Yes, it has."

Adrienne watched the exchange with a mixture of curiosity and unease. She had heard stories about Audrey from Lennox, and she couldn’t help but feel wary of her. But at the same time, she didn’t want to cause any more tension than there already was.

Jacob’s eyes then turned to her. "I suppose you are Adrienne Jiang?" When Adrienne nodded, he continued, "So the rumors are true. You are dating the famous Adrienne Jiang."

"Mr. Qin is joking. I’m not the one who’s into showbiz, but my cousin, Ayla." Adrienne gave him a slight smile.

Lennox placed a hand on her shoulder and leaned closer. He didn’t want to give Jacob the satisfaction of seeing him miserable after taking Audrey away from him. He knew Jacob wanted to get on his nerves by bragging about Audrey before him. However, Jacob was mistaken if he thought Lennox still held any affections toward Audrey.

"Say hi to my cousin, Addie." He smiled, then turned to Jacob and said, "Jake, this is Adrienne Jiang, my girlfriend."

As much as he wanted to introduce her as his wife, Lennox knew they needed a bit more time.

The smile on Audrey’s face faltered slightly, and Lennox could see a hint of disappointment in her eyes. He couldn’t help but feel a twinge of satisfaction at that.

Jacob gave a small smirk, "Girlfriend? I was under the impression that you and Audrey were each other’s ’one true love’."

He then gave Adrienne a good look, which made Lennox itch to punch his cousin’s face for his disrespect to his wife.

Audrey rolled her eyes at her husband’s snide comment, and Lennox clenched his jaw.

"Well, things change," Lennox replied through gritted teeth. Jacob was still an insufferable bastard who thought he’d be better than everyone else.

Audrey spoke up, "We should probably get going. We have a reservation at the same place. It was nice seeing you again, Lennox. Best of luck to you."

Lennox gave a tight-lipped smile. "Thank you, Audrey. You too."

As they walked away, Adrienne couldn’t help but feel the heavy tension in the air. She placed a hand on Lennox’s arm. "Are you okay?"

Lennox let out a deep sigh. "Yeah, I’m fine. It just brings up some bad memories."

Adrienne gave him a sympathetic look, saying, "I can only imagine. But you don’t have to hide your feelings from me, Len. I’m here for you."

Lennox gave her a small smile. "I know, Addie. And I appreciate it."

As they sat in silence, waiting for their food, Lennox couldn’t help but replay the memories of his past with Audrey. It was a reminder of how much he had lost, but also of how much he had gained from Adrienne.

He knew that their relationship was different and deeper than anything he had felt before. And as their food arrived, Lennox made a mental note to focus on the present and the future and not dwell on the past. He wanted to cherish every moment with Adrienne and continue building a strong and meaningful connection with her. Lennox knew that they had the potential for something truly special, and he was determined to make the most of it.

"You know, we don’t have to stay here if you feel uncomfortable, Len. I don’t mind moving to another place." Adrienne suggested, seeing that her husband’s mood hadn’t improved at all.

"There’s no need for that, Addie. We’re the ones who came here first, not them. Just pretend they aren’t here and enjoy our meal." Lennox replied, trying to reassure Adrienne. However, deep down, he couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease and wondered if it was worth sacrificing their own comfort for the sake of a meal.

But as he looked at his wife, Lennox’s heart finally calmed down. He reminded himself that all that matters was Adrienne by his side. He wouldn’t give a damn what his cousin and Audrey were thinking at the moment as his attention focused on his wife.

"I’m sorry that you have to see my cousin act like that." He said. "Jacob could be insensitive at times."

"Why are you apologizing for someone else’s behavior? He’s already a grown man, Len. You don’t need to be responsible for how he acts in public." Adrienne replied. She reached out and squeezed his hand reassuringly. "Besides, I know you would never let anyone’s opinion affect our relationship. We’re stronger than that."
