Chapter 232: Secret Marriage (3)

However, now that she was married to Lennox, hearing such words from her Uncle Reese almost made her burst into tears. Her Uncle Reese might be scolding her right now, but she knew he was merely expressing his concern and looking out for her best interests.

He had always been a protective figure in her life, and she knew deep down that he only wanted to see her happy and safe. Despite the initial sting of his words, she couldn’t help but feel grateful for his genuine care and support.

"I’m more than aware of the danger it would pose to be his wife, Uncle, but won’t you try to see things from my perspective? Lennox and I met at the lowest point in our lives. We found solace and understanding in each other’s company, and our bond has grown stronger. I believe in his ability to protect me. My husband is not a weak man, Uncle."

She looked at her uncle with pleading eyes, hoping he would understand the depth of her feelings for Lennox. She knew their relationship was not without risks, but she was willing to face them for their happiness and safety.

"Adrienne, I just want to make sure you’re making the right decision. Lennox comes from a different background, and there may be challenges ahead. Have you considered all the potential obstacles?" Reese asked, and Adrienne noticed that his coldness somehow masked a hint of concern.

She took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts before responding. "Uncle Reese, I understand your worries. Lennox and I have discussed the challenges we may face, and we are committed to overcoming them together."

Reese sighed heavily, his expression softening. "Alright, Addie. I trust that you have thought this through and made the decision that is best for you. However, if there ever comes a time when you need my help or support, don’t hesitate to come to me. I may disagree with your choices, but I will always be here for you, no matter what."

Adrienne felt gratitude wash over her at her uncle’s words. Despite his initial disapproval of her marriage to Lennox, Reese had ultimately shown his unwavering love and support for her. From that moment on, she knew she could always count on him to be there for her, and that thought was comforting.

"Thank you, Uncle. Your support means everything to me," she said, her voice soft and heartfelt.

Reese nodded, a small smile gracing his lips. "Now, come here and give me a hug, you stubborn girl," he said, opening his arms.

He pulled her into a warm embrace, holding her tightly. As they held each other, Reese whispered, "I may not always understand your choices, but I will always be here to support you unconditionally."

Adrienne smiled widely, feeling the warmth and love radiating from her uncle’s embrace. At that moment, she knew everything would be okay as long as she had her uncle and brother’s support. She hugged her uncle tightly, feeling grateful for his acceptance and understanding.

As they pulled away, Reese looked at her thoughtfully. "Just promise me one thing, Addie. Promise me that you’ll be careful and keep yourself and Lennox safe. I don’t want to see you hurt or put in harm’s way."

Adrienne nodded. She knew it was hard for her Uncle Reese to accept this sudden news, and it may take some time before it dawned on him that she was already married at such a young age. However, he didn’t know that this was already her second life, and she had once died at the age of thirty-one.

"Uncle shouldn’t worry too much. Even my three lady bodyguards were provided by him." Adrienne said with a reassuring smile.

Reese took a seat behind his desk, his expression softening. He couldn’t help but feel a mixture of concern and curiosity about Adrienne’s marriage to Lennox Qin.

"You have to understand why I’m so worried, Addie. I don’t want you to suffer the same fate as your mother. You deserve to be loved and cherished, not trapped in a cycle of tragedy and loss." Reese’s voice held a hint of sadness as he spoke, his concern for Adrienne evident in his eyes. "I just want you to be happy, my dear niece."

Adrienne couldn’t stop shedding some tears upon hearing her uncle’s words. If only she had her uncle by her side in her previous life, perhaps she could have avoided the tragedies that hit her one after another.

Reese was startled to see his niece shed a few tears. He jolted up from his seat and was at a loss for how to comfort her. He quickly pulled her into a warm embrace, offering a shoulder for her to lean on.

"Why do you shed tears, Addie? Uncle is not mad at you. Did Lennox Qin force you to marry? Don’t let him bully you, okay? Let me know if he cheats on you or hurts you, and I will deal with him."

Did she really love Lennox Qin for his response to affect her so profoundly? Did she think he would disapprove of her relationship? He couldn’t help but feel a pang of worry for Adrienne’s emotional well-being. He hoped she would find the happiness she deserved, even if it meant making choices he didn’t fully understand. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Adrienne wiped away her tears and mustered a small smile, grateful for Reese’s unwavering support. The weight of her past burdens felt a little lighter, knowing she had someone who truly cared about her well-being.

"Uncle is worrying too much. But if there’s a day Lennox would betray me, I would hope that Reese would be there to help me pick up the pieces."

She knew that their relationship was built on trust, and she couldn’t imagine Lennox ever betraying her, but it was comforting to know that Reese would be there for her no matter what.

Reese nodded, and then a thought crossed his mind.

"I wouldn’t know how to explain this to your brother once he returns, Addie. He’s always been protective of you, and he might not understand why you suddenly married without our knowledge."

Adrienne smiled sheepishly. She hoped her uncle wouldn’t feel hurt by her following admission.

"Actually, Uncle, Hunter was already aware of my relationship with Lennox even before he left to join the service. He also knew I would marry Lennox someday and tried to convince me to wait until he returned. But Lennox and I couldn’t bear the thought of being apart any longer, so we decided to get married secretly. We didn’t want to worry anyone or cause unnecessary stress while he’s away serving our country."

Reese groaned and heaved a sigh. "You are just like your mother. You always know how to make us worry. I remember when she eloped with your father, leaving everyone in shock. But I suppose love has a way of making us take risks, even if it means causing concern for those we care about. Anyway, bring that husband of yours here for us to meet. I wanted to meet the person who managed to win your heart."

He’d been worried that his niece wouldn’t be able to meet someone who could thaw her cold heart. Adrienne was always secretive, preferring to do things in her own ways. However, this was the first time Reese saw a glint of happiness in her eyes, so how could he remain angry at her for too long?
