Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 222: Adrienne’s Secret (2)
"Do you think you could recommend a pair we could give Mother? Something that looks elegant and could provide her comfort throughout the day." Lennox asked as his eyes scanned different types of women’s shoes displayed on the shelves.
He would never understand why women would rather sacrifice comfort for style. He continued to search for a pair that would meet both criteria, hoping to find the perfect balance between elegance and practicality.
Adrienne lifted her gaze and smiled. "Hubby, aren’t you aware that what sets Purple Cloud apart from other shoe brands is their commitment to creating shoes that are both stylish and comfortable? Don’t you think I didn’t consider this when I started this brand? Also, you’re worrying too much. I’ve already sent some pairs to Mother, and she loved them all."
She chuckled, remembering how Abigail managed to give Purple Cloud a sales boost just because she wore it.
Lennox looked stunned momentarily before a wide smile spread on his lips. He placed a hand on her waist and whispered next to her ear. "Can you repeat that, wife?"
Adrienne gave him a confused look. "Repeat what? I already gave Mother some pairs for her to use."
Lennox shook his head, still smiling. "No, not that. I meant the part where you called me ’Hubby’."
Adrienne coughed behind her hand, realizing what Lennox was referring to.
"Oh, that. Well, I guess it just slipped out naturally. It feels right to call you that now." Lennox’s smile grew even wider as he pulled her closer. "I love the sound of it coming from your lips, wife. It makes me feel like the luckiest man in the world."
Adrienne tried not to roll her eyes at her husband’s antics, but she couldn’t deny that his words made her heart flutter. She leaned into his embrace, feeling a warmth spread through her. She never thought she’d find someone who would make her feel this way.
"Len, they are looking at us." She whispered as she gently pushed Lennox away when she noticed some customers were looking at them.
Adrienne wasn’t someone who liked to show affection in public. She preferred to keep their affections private, a secret shared only between them. However, deep down, she couldn’t help but appreciate his open display of affection and how it reminded her of the strong bond they shared.
"Let them look." Lennox grinned. "You should have known people would eventually talk about us when you allowed me to accompany you here. The faster the news spreads, the better. It should also discourage Alistair Han from pursuing you once the news reaches him."
Adrienne believed otherwise. She didn’t believe one bit that the news of her dating Lennox would be enough to dissuade Alistair Han from pursuing her. She knew that Alistair’s determination was not easily swayed and that he would see it as a challenge rather than a deterrent. She knew Alistair’s nature more than anyone else.
Adrienne had witnessed Alistair’s relentless pursuit in the past, and she was well aware of his tenacity. She understood that he thrived on competition and would view her relationship with Lennox as an opportunity to prove himself. Despite her doubts, Adrienne hoped that the news would at least create temporary hesitation in Alistair’s pursuit, giving her a much-needed respite.
Lennox noticed the sudden change in her expression. He released her but held her arm. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Is there something wrong, Addie? Did Alistair Han do something to you while I was gone?"
He knew that Adrienne could be secretive at times, and he wondered if the secret she was keeping from him involved Alistair Han. However, no matter how the Qin-Si elite guards probed her previous relationship with Alistair Han, they couldn’t find anything relevant.
Adrienne remained tight-lipped about it. Lennox respected her privacy and didn’t push her further, but he couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to the story than she was letting on. He decided to keep a watchful eye on Alistair Han, just in case.
Adrienne shook her head. "It was nothing."
Though she felt bad lying to Lennox and keeping the secret of her rebirth from him, Adrienne knew that revealing the truth would only complicate things further. She hoped that by keeping her past hidden, she could protect both Lennox and herself from any potential danger. She knew how to deal with the Jiang family, but Alistair Han was a different story altogether.
It wasn’t like she doubted Lennox’s ability to protect her, but Adrienne feared what Alistair might do against her husband. She had witnessed firsthand the lengths Alistair would go to in order to get what he wanted, and she didn’t want Lennox to become a target.
"Addie, while I trust your judgment, I know you are keeping a secret from me right now." Lennox’s expression became stern, startling Adrienne.
"I don’t know what transpired between you and Alistair Han, but I’m sure he’s the cause of your distress. Whenever we talked about him, or someone mentioned his name, you would tense up and avoid the conversation. It’s clear that he has some sort of power over you, and I can’t help but worry about what he might be capable of. I don’t want to see you hurt or manipulated by him, so please, whenever you are ready, tell me the truth and let me help you through this."
Adrienne was stunned, not expecting Lennox to see through her carefully constructed facade. She had spent so long hiding her pain and fear from others, especially regarding Alistair. But now, faced with Lennox’s perceptive words, she realized that her secret was not as well-kept as she had thought.
Lennox took her hand and gave it a chaste kiss, his eyes never leaving hers. He could sense her distress, though she would never admit it.
"Addie, don’t forget you are my wife now. You have me now, and I would allow no one to hurt you ever again. You don’t have to face everything on your own."
