Chapter 212: Lennox Qin’s Bride (2)

Adrienne felt annoyed. She could feel several sets of eyes watching her intently. She was certain Alistair Han was one of them. She had expected tonight’s event would turn everyone’s attention on her, but not to this extent. Was it because they were in Jinling City?

She considered the possibility. Now that Lennox Qin returned, the balance of power would drastically change, and many people would keep an eye on it. Since she was proposed to by Alistair Han and shown interest by Lennox Qin, Adrienne knew she was indirectly involved in this power struggle.

Reese seemed to have sensed her uneasiness and decided to keep an eye on her throughout the banquet, and Adrienne was pleased with it. No one had bothered her anymore, allowing her to enjoy the night with Valerie and the others.

As the night went on, Adrienne couldn’t help but wonder what Qin’s return would mean for her own position in Changshi City. Would she be seen as a threat or an ally? The uncertainty weighed on her mind, but she pushed it aside, determined to make the most of the evening and focus on the present moment.

The Zhao family didn’t stay until the end, and Adrienne left the banquet hall along with her grandfather and Uncle Reese. However, before she could leave the place, she told them she would prolong her stay in Jinling City.

"But Addie, are you sure?" Cedric asked his granddaughter.

Adrienne gave him a meaningful look before the old man was forced to avert his gaze away from her.

"What’s going on?" Reese asked when he noticed the unspoken words between them.

Something must have happened that he wasn’t aware of. Though Adrienne’s attitude had somewhat mellowed, her treatment of her grandfather was still as cold as ice. He couldn’t fathom what caused this indifference from his niece.

"That is something grandfather and uncle have to talk about." Adrienne said before getting inside the car that had been waiting for her. She would leave everything to her grandfather to explain his sins to her Uncle Reese.

"Miss, are you sure you want to leave it to your grandfather to explain?" Kalista asked once the car drove away. As Adrienne’s close companions, her three bodyguards were aware of the conflict between her and her grandfather.

"It has nothing to do with me anymore. I said my piece already." Adrienne cupped her chin and looked outside. Though she could barely see the scenery outside because of the darkness, she was familiar with the road as she had lived here in Jinling City in her past life.

Adrienne fell silent. She didn’t want to be reminded of her past marriage with Alistair, but she knew she couldn’t avoid it altogether. She shut her eyes to take a rest for a moment. Meeting Alistair Han and reuniting with Lennox Qin had left her exhausted.

She didn’t know how long had passed when she reached the penthouse she owned in Jinling City. When she reached twenty years old, Adrienne sought her uncle’s help to purchase this place with her own money.

Not many knew, but she was the biggest investor in Huayi, and she had made a fortune through her successful business ventures. The penthouse served as a symbol of her independence and financial success, a constant reminder of how far she had come since her rebirth. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

The Jiang family, especially her father, would have never thought that she would achieve such success at such a young age. However, since her rebirth, Adrienne has used the knowledge she gained from her past life to her advantage. This was why she knew where to invest her money while keeping her relatives on the edge.

"Miss, you have a guest. Master Nox has been waiting for you." Irina told Adrienne once they were in the elevator.

Adrienne watched her three bodyguards politely give her a bow and excuse themselves before stepping out. The three of them had their own units below Adrienne’s penthouse, and anyone was required to have special access to reach their floors. They must have known Lennox was there before their arrival.

When she reached her floor, she spotted Lennox waiting before her front door alone. He immediately turned around as soon as he heard the elevator open and smiled at Adrienne.

"I didn’t expect that you’ll be here." Adrienne returned the smile and unlocked the front door with her PIN. She allowed Lennox to step inside before her and closed the door behind her. She then noticed that Lennox was holding a manila envelope.

Lennox looked around, taking in the sleek and modern design of Adrienne’s apartment. The open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows flooded the space with natural light.

He commented, "Your place is even more impressive than I imagined."

Adrienne chuckled and replied, "I like to keep things minimalistic and functional. I want my own place and this is where I stay whenever I have business here in Jinling."

Lennox couldn’t help but notice the impressive collection of artwork adorning the walls, each piece exuding a unique and captivating energy. Intrigued, he turned to Adrienne and asked, "Did you choose all these pieces yourself?"

Adrienne went to the kitchen and placed her hand bag on the counter. She opened the fridge to take a bottle of water and twist the cap open.

"I did, but Myrtle and Valerie helped me with it. They have a great eye for art and helped me curate a collection that truly reflects my taste and personality." She took a sip of water, her eyes gleaming with pride.

Lennox nodded and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the darkened sky and the busy streets of Jinling City. The city lights illuminated the bustling streets below, creating a mesmerizing view. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the vibrant energy of the city, as if it mirrored his own restless spirit.

"Jinling is nice, but I would prefer for us to live in Chiangshi instead. There’s too many distractions in here." He turned to Adrienne and added, "Besides, Chiangshi offers a more serene environment that would allow us to focus on our goals without any unnecessary interruptions. You can keep this place though. I rather stay here with you than the Qin family’s ancestral mansion."

Adrienne nodded, understanding his desire for a quieter setting. She also cannot part for too long from her unconscious mother. She hadn’t heard any news of her brother’s return, but she trusted that he would come back soon.

"Isn’t it too late for you to stay here? I thought you would be accompanying Mom tonight?" She asked, trying to address the reason why Lennox suddenly paid her a visit.

Adrienne joined him in the living room and gestured to him to take a seat. She wasn’t used to seeing him standing and wondered if Lennox had fully covered by now.

"Didn’t I tell you I want to discuss our marriage tomorrow? Also, Mom is leaving for a business trip tonight and went straight to the airport." Lennox took a seat on the couch and handed over the envelope he was holding.

Adrienne accepted it and pulled out its contents, only to find a contract she’d requested from Gavin before and their unsigned prenuptial agreement. She skimmed through it and was satisfied to see the conditions set between them.

Lennox watched as Adrienne read through the contract, his heart pounding with anticipation. He wasn’t sure whether he should allow Adrienne to sign it or not. To be honest, even without these contracts, he was still willing to marry her. He knew that signing the prenuptial agreement was a practical decision, but he didn’t want it to overshadow their commitment to each other.

"Addie, you don’t have to sign this prenuptial agreement." Lennox’s voice was filled with concern as he watched Adrienne’s reaction. He continued, "I know we discussed this before, but I wanted to give you the opportunity to review everything beforehand. I want you to feel comfortable and confident in our decision to marry."

Adrienne shook her head. She appreciated Lennox’s concern, but she still believed signing the prenuptial agreement was the right thing to do. It wasn’t about doubting their commitment, but rather about protecting both of their interests in case anything unforeseen happens in the future.

"No, Len. I will sign this prenup." She insisted. "This wouldn’t only protect you, but will give your mother an assurance that I’m not marrying you for financial gain. I understand the importance of maintaining trust and transparency in our relationship, and signing this prenuptial agreement is a way for me to show my commitment to that."

Lennox was stunned into silence, before a slight smile appeared on his face. He reached out and gently took Adrienne’s hand in his.

"Thank you, Addie," he said softly. "You’ve shown me once again why I fell in love with you. "

Adrienne was startled by his words and looked away with a flushed expression on her face.

"I might not be the best canditate to be your wife, but let’s make this marriage work." She answered in a hushed tone as if she was afraid of her own vulnerability. "I promise to support you and be there for you, no matter what."

Lennox nodded in understanding and kissed her hand. Adrienne probably had no idea that she was the only woman he considered and wanted to marry.

"Alright. If that’s what you want, Mrs. Qin."
