Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 204: I’m Not Willing to Marry, Mr. Han (2)
All the young women present were feeling indignant, especially Ayla Jiang, whose eyes were now filled with grievance. She couldn’t understand what Adrienne had that she didn’t. It was obvious that she’s a far better candidate to become Alistair’s wife than her cousin.
Ayla had always been known for her intelligence, grace, and charm, qualities that she believed made her the perfect match for Alistair. As she watched Adrienne with him, a sense of resentment overwhelmed her. She couldn’t fathom why Alistair couldn’t see what was so clear to her and everyone else in the room.
Meanwhile, Abigail could sense the seriousness of the situation Adrienne was in. She naturally knew Adrienne had no intention of marrying Alistair Han, as she was already in a relationship with Lennox. However, declining Alistair Han’s proposal before everyone would surely put her in a bad light.
Alistair, on the other hand, kept his gaze on Adrienne. He stared at the young woman before him shamelessly. Three years ago, this young woman was able to pique his interest; now she was able to evoke a feeling of need to win her over as his wife.
In this world, there wasn’t any shortage of beautiful women, but not many women possess a beautiful face and a good head. And as for someone as smart and beautiful as Adrienne Jiang, Alistair naturally wanted her all to himself. He admired her intelligence and grace, finding her captivating in every way. Alistair knew that with Adrienne by his side, he would not only have a stunning partner but also a formidable ally in both his personal and professional endeavors.
He had seen firsthand how this young woman turned the tides in her favor against her family when they all colluded to sell her hand in marriage to the Gu family. It left a lasting impression on Alistair, and now that his family was forcing him to take a wife, he couldn’t think of any woman worthy of standing by his side aside from Adrienne Jiang.
He looked at her with such gentleness in his eyes. Just like what Prosecutor Ji said earlier, Alistair didn’t think there’s another man in Chiangshi that could compete with him to become Adrienne’s man.
However, when his gaze met Adrienne’s eyes, Alistair only saw the indifference in it. She gave him an unflattering look as if she despised the idea of having him as her husband. Alistair couldn’t understand why Adrienne’s feelings towards him had changed so drastically. He wondered if there was something he had done to cause her to feel this way or if there was someone else who had captured her heart.
Alistair was taken aback. Didn’t Adrienne used to like him in the past? So what had changed? He initially thought that her sudden cold treatment of him three years ago was to spite him for not reciprocating her affections, but it seemed he was mistaken all this time.
This young woman looked at him with such enmity that he could never understand. Other women would have been floored at the thought of being his wife, but not Adrienne Jiang. She didn’t look at him with admiration or longing, but rather with disdain and resentment.
It was as if he had committed some unforgivable offense against her, though he couldn’t for the life of him remember what it could be. Alistair couldn’t help but wonder if there was someone else in Adrienne’s life who had captured her heart, someone who had replaced him in her affections.
He couldn’t fathom what made Adrienne despise him so much. Had he unknowingly done something to hurt her?
Alistair racked his brain, trying to recall any past interactions that could have caused such animosity. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t pinpoint a specific incident that would warrant such intense disdain from Adrienne.
"I even heard you once fancied Alistair when you were younger." Prosecutor Ji pressed, wanting Adrienne to say something.
Adrienne suddenly looked embarrassed and did not respond immediately. "This..."
She lowered her head, waiting for Abigail to take action. For Adrienne, there was no coincidence in this world, and everything happened for a reason. She had specifically chosen this spot to be where Abigail could witness and hear anything. Abigail might have some reservations during this encounter, but Adrienne acted as if she were being cornered and being forced to agree against her will.
’Mother, forgive me for using you this time.’ She thought.
There was no way Abigail would remain unperturbed as she witnessed another woman being forced into a marriage she wasn’t willing to participate in. Adrienne’s predicament would remind Abigail of her greatest regret in life.
Just as she expected, Abigail rose from her seat and sauntered towards them with a stern expression on her face.
"Spare, Miss Jiang, will you? I don’t think this is the right place to discuss such things." Abigail said with an air of defiance and confidence.
Adrienne kept her head low, but the corners of her lips curled up. She had taken advantage of Abigail’s weakness and used it to her advantage. Abigail didn’t step forward to help her because of her engagement with Lennox, but because Adrienne had reminded her of her younger self.
Prosecutor Ji’s smile slightly faltered as he looked at Abigail. Abigail had just recently taken over the management of StarMedia as its newest CEO after her father. Add to the fact that she was also Lennox Qin’s mother, and Abigail was someone he could not afford to offend at all.
"CEO Li, don’t take it seriously. We’re just trying to see if Alistair and Miss Jiang are compatible for marriage."
Abigail glanced at Adrienne, noticing her unusual silence. The Adrienne Jiang she knew wouldn’t let anyone corner her like this.
"If you’re really curious about Miss Jiang’s opinion, then let’s hear what she has to say. Do you accept this proposal, Miss Jiang?"
Abigail thought that if Adrienne agreed, then surely she’s not fit to become Lennox’s wife at all.
"CEO Li, thank you for considering this one’s opinion." Adrienne lifted her head and answered before glancing cautiously at Prosecutor Ji. "Prosecutor Ji, I have to decline this proposal. I’m not willing to marry Mr. Han."
