Chapter 199: The Witch of the Zhao Estate (2)

"I know. I just felt it had been too long since I saw him." πŸπ—ΏπžπšŽπš πžπš‹π•Ÿπ¨πšŸπžπ•.π•”π• πš–

It wasn’t like Adrienne didn’t understand Lennox’s situation. If anything, she was worried about him and Noah. Noah had contracted acute pneumonia and had been hospitalized for weeks. Adrienne knew how serious pneumonia could be, especially for someone like Noah. She had seen the toll it took on his health and the immense strain it put on Lennox, who was doing everything he could to support his younger brother during this difficult time.

However, speaking to Lennox over the phone wasn’t enough for Adrienne for too long. She longed to be by his side, offering her support and comforting presence. Adrienne knew that being physically present would provide a sense of reassurance to both Lennox and Noah as they faced this challenging period.

"Miss, are you going to attend the banquet?" Irina asked, reminding Adrienne of her current predicament.

"Has Alistair Han kept tabs with Prosecutor Ji?" Adrienne asked in return as she set the chess pieces back in their places.

"Yes, Miss. They have been spotted meeting several times in the past few weeks." Irina responded, curious as to what Adrienne was planning to do this time and why she was curious about Alistair Han.

Aside from the members of the Jiang family, Adrienne was keeping an eye on the Ji family and Alistair Han, which was quite confusing for the Qin-Si elite guards since they knew Adrienne’s background and she never had a direct connection or enmity towards Prosecutor Ji and Alistair Han.

However, Adrienne had a reputation for being thorough and meticulous in her scheming, so the guards trusted that she must have had a valid reason for her interest in these individuals. They knew better than to question her judgment and instead focused on gathering any information that could help her in her pursuit of the truth.

"Alistair Han had also met your father recently, but we can’t confirm what was the meeting about."

"Of course, it’s none other than my impending marriage. Alistair Han would use Prosecutor Ji’s banquet to pressure me into marrying him. Ayla would be so brokenhearted once she finds out that the man she’d been fancying for some time now wants me to become his wife and not him."

"Miss!" Irina gasped in surprise. She never thought that Alistair Han was interested in Adrienne, as he never dared to approach her before and was content with admiring her from afar.

Irina couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Adrienne. It seemed unfair that Alistair Han would put her in such a difficult position, forcing her to accept his proposal in front of everyone just to save face. Adrienne deserved the chance to make her own choices and not be pressured into a marriage she did not want.

Adrienne had already planned to marry their Master Nox in due time, and if the three of them allowed another man to snatch Adrienne away, they would have no face to show Lennox Qin once he returned.

"Calm down, will you?" Adrienne replied, "Since I know what they are up to, it’s easier to plan how to deal with them."

Adrienne’s calm and composed response reflected her determination to handle the situation tactfully. She understood that reacting impulsively would only play into their hands and potentially jeopardize her relationship with Lennox. Instead, she resolved to stay one step ahead of them and devise a strategic plan to counter their attempts at interference.

"I see." Adrienne clasped her hands together and looked at the neat arrangement of the chess set before her. No matter how much her enemies resist, their end is already set.

Adrienne stood up and walked towards the lily tree, looking up at its magnificent form. She knew that the road ahead was going to be full of obstacles, but she was ready for whatever challenges came her way. She had faced challenges before and had always come out on top.

"Irina, prepare for my attendance at the banquet. We have work to do," Adrienne said, turning back to face her assistant.

"Of course, Miss," Irina said, bowing before leaving Adrienne at once.

A week later, the day of the banquet being hosted by the Ji family arrived, and the dress Adrienne would be wearing was laid on her massive bed. The dress was specifically made to order according to Adrienne’s preference.

"Miss has such a fair complexion. Why did she choose to wear black instead of the bright red dress she already had in her wardrobe?" Kalista asked as she failed to grasp the importance of this banquet to Adrienne.

From her perspective, Adrienne wanted to make a statement with her choice of attire. Black symbolized power and elegance, and she wanted to exude confidence and sophistication at the banquet. Additionally, she believed that the black dress would make her stand out among the sea of brightly colored outfits, allowing her to command attention and leave a lasting impression on the guests.

However, when wearing red clothes, Kalista couldn’t help but notice the perfect contrast of the fiery color against Adrienne’s cold-like and indifferent demeanor. The vibrant red seemed to ignite a spark within her, giving her a newfound sense of boldness and passion. It was as if the color itself had the ability to transform her into someone who was unapologetically fierce and captivating, making her feel unstoppable in any situation.

"Why is it an issue?" Leigh frowned as they waited for Adrienne to finish dressing. "Miss looks good in everything, and there’s no reason for her to doll up since Master wasn’t there to attend the event." She pointed it out.

"Leigh is right, Kal," Irina agreed. "Our miss is already a beauty without rival and will look splendid in whatever color she chooses to wear."

"Alright, you win," Kalista conceded. "Anyway, we have to be on guard throughout the night. Who knows what they would try to do with Miss Addie while Master isn’t around."

The three of them fell silent. Ever since Adrienne disclosed Alistair Han’s intention a week ago, they couldn’t help but be wary of the man. What kind of event was the banquet anyway? If it weren’t for the fact that the Zhao family was invited, Adrienne wouldn’t have bothered to come.
