Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 197: Thank You, Brother
At the Zhao family estate, Hunter was talking to Adrienne. Today was the day he was scheduled to return to service; by the look of it, he wouldn’t be able to see his sister for a long time. He knew this day would come, but he wasn’t ready to part with Adrienne yet. If it weren’t for his promise to continue his service in the military, he would rather stay with her and their mother.
"Calm down, brother. Are you still worried about me?" Adrienne asked, "Uncle Reese is home now. So Mom and I aren’t technically on our own."
"How could I be at ease?" Hunter grumbled. He was already dressed in a military uniform, and his hair was cut according to the rules. "I won’t be seeing you for a long time, Addie, but if something happens, you must call me at once."
How could he forget the Jiang family’s scheme to destroy his sister’s innocence during his recent absence? Things might have gone down for Adrienne if it weren’t for Lennox Qin’s assistance.
He’d already made a decision but was still uneasy about his sister’s safety. Fortunately, their Uncle Reese had just returned from his extended mission, and he wouldn’t be leaving the Zhao family anytime soon. Hunter felt as if a huge boulder had been lifted from his heart. It was far safer for his sister to live with the Zhao family than to remain at the Jiang estate alone.
"You have to be careful, Addie. Just because Elise Jiang wasn’t in town doesn’t mean the Jiang family wouldn’t do anything against you, especially Camilla Yan. You’ve caused her daughter humiliation, and I have no doubt she’s trying to come up with another idea to destroy you."
Adrienne smiled as she said, "Big Brother doesn’t need to be this anxious. I know her too well, and I have my own plans."
She knew that the only reason Hunter was returning to serve wasn’t because of his will to serve the country, but because he wanted to protect her and their mother. If not for this, Adrienne had no doubt Hunter would have chosen to take another career. Something that would allow him to remain by their side as much as possible.
"Thank you, Brother." Adrienne suddenly says, making Hunter surprised.
"For what, Addie?" He asked.
"For returning to us. For accepting Mom and me as your family." She answered.
"It’s not worth mentioning, Addie. If there’s someone I should thank, it is you. You’ve kept Mom alive since her accident." Hunter patted her head. "As the elder sibling, it’s my job to worry about you, not the other way around."
Adrienne said nothing and just smiled.
"Aren’t you leaving to send Mr. Qin and his siblings off? They are also leaving today, right?"
"There’s no need," Adrienne replied. The thought of not seeing her brother and Lennox saddened him, but she knew that this arrangement was temporary. She trusted that they would all be reunited soon. In the meantime, she would focus on herself and do the things she wasn’t able to pursue in her past life.
"I didn’t approve of him being your husband in the future, Addie, but I’m not blind. I can see how much he treasures you. If he dares to cheat behind your back and let another woman get between you, I’ll deal with him myself."
Adrienne chuckled and shook her head. She knew her brother wouldn’t easily give her hand away for marriage, even if it was to Lennox Qin.
It was about time for Hunter to leave, and their uncle Reese, as well as their grandparents, stepped up to send him off. Hunter exchanged a few words with them before turning his attention back to Adrienne.
"Brother, take care of yourself," Adrienne said with a warm smile, her eyes filled with genuine concern. "I’ll be waiting for you to come back safely."
"I will, Addie. You take care too." Hunter hugged his sister tightly, inhaling the sweet scent of her hair. His heart felt heavy, knowing that it would be a while before he could see her again. But he had to be strong. He had a duty to fulfill.
As he walked out of the Zhao family estate, Hunter couldn’t help but think about the sacrifices he had to make for his family. He had always been protective of his sister and mother since he found out he wasn’t an orphan. Being the only man in the family, he felt the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. And now, as he returned to serve in the military, he knew that he might not come back unscathed.
But he couldn’t let that stop him. He had to do his duty, not just for his family but for his future. As he approached the base, Hunter steeled himself for what was to come. He knew that there would be challenges ahead, but he was ready to face them head-on.
After exchanging a few words with his family, Hunter entered the car and drove away. His younger sister stood still from where he left her, watching as his car traveled further away, and only then did she turn around and leave.
Her Uncle Reese followed her shortly.
"You and Hunter have just reunited. It’s a pity that he has to leave not so long after." He commented.
"There’s no reason to be sad, Uncle. I know my brother would take care of himself." Adrienne said with a small smile.
She managed to change the course of events in this life, and it wasn’t surprising that the next three years were unknown to her. In her past life, she barely managed to finish high school and started working menial jobs as a commoner when she left the Jiang family. If it weren’t for Alistair’s help, she couldn’t keep her mother alive for another few years.
However, now, not only was she able to humiliate and cut off ties with her father, but there was no need for her to work day and night as she had money to support herself. Adrienne was also lucky enough to find the older brother she never knew she had, but she also managed to restore their relationship with the Zhao family.
The only thing she hadn’t expected to have since her rebirth was Lennox Qin. Lennox Qin, an enigmatic man who seemed to have an uncanny ability to unravel her defenses. Despite her initial resistance, Adrienne found herself drawn to him in ways she couldn’t explain. His presence in her life brought a mix of excitement and uncertainty, challenging everything she thought she knew about love and relationships.
