Chapter 191: A Chance to Love (1)

Adrienne stared blankly at the television, seeing Ayla’s face on the screen. Her cousin’s debut had occurred around the same time in her previous life. Adrienne’s uncle had little choice but to acknowledge defeat and keep a low profile while Ayla pursued her career in showbiz. Ayla would suffer the most if his secrets were revealed now.

"Miss, is it alright to do it as it is?" Irina asked. They were aware that it was Maryam Fang and Ayla Jiang’s idea to send Adrienne to Ares Gu’s bed. She felt that they were easily letting off this mother-and-daughter pair.

Irina felt uneasy about the situation. She believed that Maryam Fang and Ayla Jiang should face consequences for their manipulative plan involving Adrienne and Ares Gu. She wondered if there was a way to expose their involvement without putting Adrienne at risk.

"It’s alright. It’s not the right time to get even with them." Adrienne answered nonchalantly. She had other plans for her aunt and cousin. She knew that seeking revenge against Maryam and Ayla at that moment would only complicate her own plans. She needed to bide her time and strategize a more effective way to bring them down.

She then glanced at her phone on the table. She knew it was Lennox calling her again, but she hesitated to answer his calls. Now that the date of his next surgery was confirmed, Adrienne knew that their time together was also running out.

"Miss?" Irina asked when she noticed Adrienne wasn’t picking up Lennox’s calls. She wondered if her Master Nox and Adrienne had a fight recently.

"How’s the twins?" Adrienne asked, completely ignoring Irina’s inquiry. Her mind was consumed with worry for Lennox and the upcoming surgery, making it difficult for her to focus on anything else. She desperately hoped that everything would go smoothly and that Lennox would recover quickly.

It’s been a week since Rachel was discharged from the hospital, allowing her to spend her remaining days with Vaughn and Vincent. Adrienne didn’t dare interrupt their time together. Now that Lennox had managed to get all the custody of his siblings, he and Gavin started preparing the children’s passports.

Adrienne knew that Lennox was doing everything he could to ensure the children’s safety and happiness. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief, knowing that they were in good hands. Lennox’s determination and dedication to his siblings gave Adrienne hope for their future. She trusted that he would provide them with the love and stability they deserved, allowing them to heal from the trauma they had experienced.

"We have rented a cabin in a private beach resort according to Master Nox’s orders. Kalista and Leigh are there to ensure everything their needs will be provided." Irina answered, pausing for a moment. "Miss, shouldn’t you answer Master Nox’s call? Did you have a fight with him? He’d been asking me if something was wrong with you."

"No, there’s nothing wrong between us," Adrienne replied with a sigh. "I just needed some time alone to clear my head. I’ll make sure to answer his call soon and let him know everything is alright."

She couldn’t believe that she was stressing over the fact that she and Lennox would part ways soon. Had she grown so fond of him that she couldn’t imagine not being able to see him or talk to him anytime she wished to?

Adrienne realized that her feelings for Lennox had deepened more than she had anticipated. She had initially thought their relationship was purely casual, but now she found herself longing for more. The thought of not being able to see him or hear his voice made her realize how much she truly cared for him.

Adrienne stood up from the couch and walked towards the window, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of Lennox. She gazed out at the cityscape and the twinkling lights of the skyscrapers below her. She wondered what Lennox was doing at that moment—if he was thinking of her as much as she was thinking of him.

Suddenly, her phone rang again, jolting her out of her reverie. She saw Lennox’s name flash on the screen, and without hesitation, she finally answered the call.

"Hey," she said softly, trying to keep her tone neutral.

"Hey yourself," Lennox replied, his voice warm and comforting. "How are you doing? I’ve been trying to reach you for days."

Adrienne felt the tension in her shoulders ease upon hearing his voice. She realized how much she missed him and how much she needed him.

"I’m doing alright," she said, trying to sound casual. "Just been busy with work and stuff."

There was a moment of silence on the other end, and Adrienne could sense Lennox’s hesitation.

"Addie, is there something you’re not telling me?" He asked finally, his voice serious. "Is something wrong?"

"Nothing; everything’s fine," Adrienne lied, not wanting to burden him with her thoughts. She didn’t want to admit that she had been feeling lonely and overwhelmed lately. The truth was, she missed Lennox more than she could put into words, but she didn’t want to come across as needy or dependent.

"Are you sure? You sound a little off," Lennox persisted.

Adrienne bit her lip, wondering if she should tell him how she felt. But before she could say anything, Lennox spoke up again.

"I have some good news. Everything is prepared for the surgery, and the doctor said there’s a good chance it will be successful." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Adrienne’s heart lifted at the news. She could imagine Lennox’s excitement at the possibility of being able to walk again.

"I’m so happy for you, Len," she said, her voice filled with emotion.

"Thank you," he replied softly. "Addie, I know we talked about keeping things casual between us, but I can’t help the way I feel about you. I want to see you."

Adrienne’s heart skipped a beat at his words, and she felt a rush of emotions flood through her. She had always been drawn to Lennox but had kept her feelings hidden, afraid of ruining their friendship. However, at that moment, she realized that her feelings for him were too strong to ignore. She took a deep breath and mustered up the courage to respond.
