Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 182: Parting Ways (2)
Mother Wang nodded, her tears still flowing down her cheeks. "I know, Miss Addie, and I’m truly sorry. I never wanted it to come to this. Please believe me when I say that I never intended for any harm to come to you. I prayed and hoped Miss Irina could save you, and she didn’t disappoint. It was me who failed you, Miss Addie."
Taking a deep breath, Adrienne stood up and touched Mother Wang’s trembling form. She hated her father even more after discovering he had forced Mother Wang into this situation. He was truly despicable for using someone close to her to hurt her. However, Adrienne also knew that he was a selfish bastard and selling her hand off for marriage to settle the debt of the Jiang family
After Ares Gu’s death and Elise’s demise, Adrienne could shake the feeling that she was overlooking something. She sent Uncle Shark discreetly back to the Jiang estate to find any traces of the paralytic drug that was used on her. However, when Uncle Shark reported that he found it in Mother Wang’s uniform, Adrienne felt she had received a powerful blow in her gut.
It all made sense to Adrienne, but still, knowing that it was Mother Wang who drugged her disappointed her greatly. She had always trusted Mother Wang and considered her a part of their family. The revelation shattered that trust and left Adrienne questioning the loyalty of those closest to her. She couldn’t help but wonder if there were other secrets hidden, waiting to be uncovered.
"Mother Wang, I believe you," she said. "I know you are sorry for what you did. I can see that you were forced to make a terrible choice, and I don’t blame you for that."
Mother Wang nodded, her voice choked with emotion.
"Thank you, Miss Addie. I was trying to protect my son, but betraying you broke my heart." She confessed.
Adrienne’s heart ached for the woman standing before her. She understood the lengths a mother would go to protect her family, even if it meant making terrible sacrifices. However, Adrienne regretted that Mother Wang didn’t visit her so they could work together to find a solution.
"Mother Wang," Adrienne continued, "I won’t turn you over to the authorities, but you must understand that our paths can no longer be intertwined. You need to make things right, not just for me but for yourself and your son. I don’t want you to get involved with my fight with the Jiang family."
She knew that severing ties with Mother Wang was right, but it didn’t make it any easier. Her mother and Mother Wang were the ones who raised her, and she treated this woman like a second mother.
Mother Wang bowed her head in shame, tears still streaming down her face. "I understand, Miss Addie. I’ll leave before dawn breaks. I truly hope you’ll find it in your heart to forgive me someday.
Adrienne nodded and watched Mother Wang leave. As she walked away, Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss. Mother Wang had been her confidant, but now, their relationship was forever changed. She couldn’t help but wonder how their bond had become so fractured, and if it could ever be repaired. She knew that moving forward, she would have to find a way to fill the void left by Mother Wang’s absence in her life.
She made her way back to her bed, her mind racing with thoughts of what had transpired. She didn’t have any appetite to eat anything given what transpired tonight. Adrienne lay in bed, replaying the conversation with Mother Wang over and over in her mind. The weight of their fractured relationship weighed heavily on her heart, leaving her feeling a deep sense of loneliness. She hoped that with time, wounds would heal and their bond could be restored, but for now, the pain was too fresh to ignore.
Adrienne knew her fight with the Jiang family was far from over. They had tried to take her down, and they had come close to succeeding. She knew that they wouldn’t give up until they had destroyed her completely. She needed to be ready for whatever they threw her way.
As she sat down on her bed, Adrienne couldn’t help but think about how alone she was in this fight. She had Uncle Shark and Irina, but they were both more like hired guns than true allies. She needed someone who understood her, someone who would stand by her no matter what. But who could she turn to?
Her father was her enemy, and her mother was in a coma. Mother Wang had betrayed her, and her friends were all caught up in their own problems. Though her brother and Uncle Reese were there to help her, she wanted to keep them safe.
As for Lennox...
His previous words replayed in her mind. He said he wanted to become a man worthy of her love, but was she worthy of his? There were many things she was keeping from him, and she doubted he would believe her if she told him she was reborn.
She couldn’t bear the thought of losing him too, especially if he found out the truth about her past life. Lennox had been her rock throughout all her struggles, but now she questioned if their love could withstand the weight of her secrets. The fear of rejection gnawed at her, leaving her torn between wanting to confide in him and protecting their relationship from potential harm.
Adrienne sighed before lying down on her bed. She closed her eyes and tried to clear her mind of all her worries. She needed to stay focused if she was going to survive the coming storm. The Jiang family was not to be underestimated, and Adrienne knew that better than anyone. They wouldn’t stop until they get rid of her for good, but she wouldn’t allow it to happen.
As she drifted off to sleep, Adrienne hoped that somehow, a solution would present itself. She needed someone she could trust, someone who could help her navigate the treacherous waters ahead. But for now, all she could do was rest and gather her strength for the battles to come.
