Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 178: Counteroffer (2)
It wasn’t long before Uncle Shark learned that the men following Adrienne were the mercenaries Waylen Jiang hired to deal with Adrienne. The gravity of the situation hung heavily over them as Adrienne and Hunter received the news.
Thankfully, they convinced their grandfather to return to his room and retire for the night, as the clock was approaching midnight. Irina, Kalista, and Leigh returned once Old Master Zhao left and Uncle Shark had just arrived from his recent errand.
"What do you want to do now, little girl? Your uncle seems to have had enough of you extorting him for money. Now he wants to get rid of you for good." Uncle Shark asked curiously, noticing the seriousness on Hunter’s face while their young miss remained calm and collected, as if the threat hovering over her didn’t bother her at all.
"You know their boss, Uncle Shark?" Adrienne raised a brow at him. Uncle Shark chuckled, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "Oh, I know hi, alright."
The boss of the mercenaries Waylen Jiang hired was a powerful man, but they underestimated his young miss. Adrienne Jiang had tricks up her sleeve that even he wouldn’t see coming. Adrienne’s way was too cruel for a young girl from an affluent family.
Uncle Shark had recently heard about the Gu family’s misfortune after they offended this young woman before him and understood she was someone no one could easily mess up with. Adrienne aside, Lennox Qin was far more dangerous than any other man Uncle Shark had met.
Despite his current state, Lennox Qin’s name still manages to instill fear in those living in the underworld of Changshi City. Uncle Shark didn’t doubt that Lennox Qin was responsible for Ares Gu’s disappearance and tragic end.
To offend Adrienne Jiang was to offend Lennox Qin. Even he, Uncle Shark, would dare mess up with this couple. The Jiang family had made a grave mistake by going after her. Lennox Qin’s power and influence reached far beyond the Jiang family, making him a force to be reckoned with in the criminal underworld. His ruthlessness and ability to exact revenge were legendary, leaving no doubt that crossing paths with him was a grave error that would have severe consequences.
"I happen to know their boss and how he runs his business. Unfortunately, I cannot meddle with his affairs. Since Waylen Jiang managed to find someone to deal with you, there’s no doubt he sees you as a threat."
"I don’t doubt that, Uncle Shark." Adrienne’s lips slightly curled up. "I’ve already expected something like this to happen. I just didn’t anticipate he would do it this early."
She rubbed her right thumb against her forefinger. "I thought I could still ask for more money. I’ve been enjoying exploiting his weakness lately."
Uncle Shark chuckled at Adrienne’s confession: "You’re quite the little schemer, aren’t you?"
Adrienne smirked. "It’s a talent."
Hunter shook his head. "We need to focus on the issue at hand. What are we going to do about these mercenaries?"
"I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve," Adrienne said with a mischievous glint in her eye. "But I’m going to need Uncle Shark’s help."
Uncle Shark raised an eyebrow. "What do you need me to do?"
"I need you to talk with their boss," Adrienne said. "I can take care of the rest. Uncle Waylen should be reminded why he shouldn’t dare cross paths with me. "
Uncle Shark nodded. "Consider it done."
"Miss, I also need to report something to you." Irina interjected, "Master Nox is also aware of your situation and wanted to speak with you. Please give him a call. Master wanted to send the other elite guards, but he made a promise with you, did he not?"
Adrienne sighed inwardly. Indeed, Lennox made a promise to her. She should have known that Irina and the other guards would relay to him what was happening on her end. Adrienne hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether or not to reach out to Lennox. Despite her reservations, she knew that his involvement could provide the help she needed. Taking a deep breath, she decided to give him a call and see what he had to say.
"The Jiang family is filled with idiots. Aren’t they afraid to lose their lives because of their idiocy?" Lennox grumbled in the other line, clearly upset with the news of the threat to Adrienne’s life.
"It runs in the family. I’m ashamed to confess; I used to be foolish and ignorant like them before meeting you." Adrienne replied.
"We’re all stupid in some ways, Addie, but I couldn’t believe the entire Jiang family is dim-witted. Even your uncle, who’s supposed to be smart for being a university professor, isn’t spared at all."
"Let them stay foolish and share a single brain cell. It’s like they’re content with mediocrity and refuse to strive for anything better. We would be at a disadvantage if they grew another brain cell to share."
Lennox finally chuckled, knowing Adrienne was trying to calm him down, but his anger still remained.
"Can you calm down for a moment and tell me what you have in mind, Len? Please tell me you haven’t done anything I don’t know yet." Adrienne continued.
Lennox took a deep breath, trying to compose himself. "No, I haven’t done anything rash," he replied, his voice slightly calmer. "But I can’t help but feel frustrated with their constant foolishness."
How was he supposed to remain calm when someone placed a reward over Adrienne’s head? He knew he had to stay level-headed, but the situation was testing his patience to its limits.
"I know, Len, and I appreciate your concern. What do you plan to do then?"
"You can deal with your uncle however you want. I want to make a counteroffer for Waylen Jiang’s head. With me backing you up, who would dare accept his offer to take you down? This would also remind anyone in business that whoever touches you will make an enemy out of me!"
