Chapter 139: Forsaken (1)

The money she would receive as compensation for raising Scarlett was a huge deal for Divine. She knew she could ask Lennox Qin for more, but his reputation made the actress wary of him. It would have been nice to ask him to support her and give her career a boost, but Divine could already sense that Lennox Qin and Adrienne Jiang were displeased with her.

She needed to thread carefully with him as she heard that Lennox had a bad temper. He could ruin the career she painstakingly built over the years in the blink of an eye.

As for Adrienne Jiang... there’s no need for her to get involved with this young woman. She wasn’t foolish to make an enemy out of Adrienne Jiang. Divine could already predict that this young woman would be a force to reckon with in the near future. Whoever dares to obstruct Adrienne’s way would surely be on the losing side. However, what Divine didn’t know was that she was already on Adrienne’s bad side and her career would sail steadily after this encounter.

Gavin handed the contract he brought with him to Divine. The actress didn’t waste time and signed it without hesitation, not noticing the cold and menacing look Gavin and Adrienne were giving her. She was so thrilled that she’d finally regain her freedom and a huge amount of money today.

Adrienne shut her eyes and took calming breaths. It was hard for her to sit there and do nothing. She expected Divine Yang to make a fuss regarding the custody, but she’d never thought she would hand over Scarlett to others at the first chance she could get.

However, Adrienne wasn’t surprised at all. If her father was willing to allow his mistress to kill her, Scarlett being nothing more than a nuisance in her mother’s eyes was just another case. She and the young girl were unfortunate to have heartless parents in this life.

The money was transferred into Divine’s account immediately. She called Scarlett’s caretaker to call the young child and to pack up Scarlett’s things as she would be leaving with their guests. The old woman who greeted Adrienne and Gavin was taken aback and wanted to ask what was going on, but Divine hurriedly asked her to move.

The two women left the room, leaving their guests behind. Adrienne stood up and went near the window to look outside. The weather was good today and there wasn’t any indication of heavy rain which affected everyone for the past two weeks. The ground was still moist and only now did the small birds appeared again.

The manor where Divine and Scarett were living was under Lennox’s father’s name and since Lennox was the sole heir of Richard Qin and Abigail Li, his net worth was expected to quadruple in the future. Adrienne wasn’t certain if Lennox would allow the actress to continue living here.

"You’re upset. Shouldn’t you be happy that Scarlett is going with us?" Gavin asked her, noticing her unusual silence. It was obvious that Adrienne was trying to contain her anger towards Divine Yang.

"How can I be pleased? A mother shouldn’t be selling her child like a commodity. I would’ve understood if she was a surrogate mother that Lennox’s father hired, but she isn’t. Scarlett doesn’t deserve any of this."

Adrienne felt they were letting Divine Yang off so easily. She expected some retribution to be given, but why did Lennox not punish that woman for harming Scarlett? She couldn’t understand at all.

"Don’t be mistaken, Miss Jiang. If you think this matter will end here, you’re mistaken." Gavin’s voice went considerably low as his eyes darkened. "Nox and I won’t allow Scarlett to suffer for nothing. Timing is everything and it’s not the perfect time to deliver her punishment. Our priority is to take Scarlett away from her."

Those words immediately made Adrienne calm down. So it was like this... If Lennox and Gavin did nothing after this, she was already considering sending Uncle Shark and his henchmen to terrorize the actress. She wasn’t going to let Divine have a fulfilling life after selling her daughter for money.

"You can leave this to us, Miss Jiang. I know what you want to do, but it would be better if you focus on Scarlett for now." Gavin reminded her.

Adrienne rubbed her temple. She was the one who convinced the young girl to come with them and leave her mother behind. She cannot just leave her in Lennox’s care, when he was still recovering from his injuries.

"I understand. I’ll drop by to check on the children. Is there any news on Lennox’s next surgery?" She asked.

"I’m afraid his legs aren’t fully healed yet, but the doctors are positive they could operate on him once his condition is stabilized. It won’t take long, Miss Jiang. If everything goes according to plan, he’ll need to leave with his siblings soon." Gavin answered. "He’ll need to stay low profile then."

Adrienne must have not known because Lennox never showed her the severity of his injury on his legs. Gavin was sure that his best friend didn’t want Adrienne to be repulsed by his injuries and scars. Lennox had undergone several surgeries to mend his fractures. The recovery was expected to take 4 to 6 months. However, he also had to endure the pain in his lower back until the doctor operated on him.

He was already lucky he was able to get out alive from that accident. When he and Abigail met Lennox’s doctors, Gavin was afraid Lennox would be paralyzed from the neck down. They were lucky Lennox was immediately given medical attention to avoid it.

Lennox had mentioned that they were waiting for his legs to recover before the surgeons could tend on his injured lumbar spine. He could still feel his lower half, but their functions were interfered after the accident. Lennox even joked to his mother that he might not be able to produce an heir if things went south.
