Reborn with the Infinite World Panel-Chapter 310 - 222: Cultivation World 12_2
Occasionally, a gentle breeze swept by, stirring the bloodstains on the ground, as if telling the tale of this tragic massacre.
The village, once filled with laughter and joy, had now become a human purgatory, leaving only desolation and misery behind.
Si Lingle, on her way forward, smelled the scent of blood in the air. She extended her divine sense and soon saw the horrific scene thirty kilometers away at Pear Blossom Village.
Si Lingle applied a Gale Talisman, accelerating her speed forward.
When she arrived and scanned the village with her divine sense, there was not a single living soul left; everyone was dead.
Si Lingle sensed the presence of Evil Demon Qi and demonic qi.
This village was massacred by Evil Demons.
What’s more, the hearts of these dead villagers were missing; whether they were eaten by the demons or collected was unknown.
If collected, Si Lingle speculated that they might be used in some evil array or as a sacrificial offering, things that bode no good.
The corpses still retained some warmth, suggesting the evil demons might not have gone far.
Si Lingle took out a Tracking Talisman, performed a spell, and the talisman circled the village before stopping at a spot on the ground.
The demon fled underground.
As Si Lingle prepared to delve further, someone arrived.
The newcomer attacked Si Lingle, and she blocked the assault with her Qingchu Sword.
"Stop, junior brother. This is a fellow Daoist of the Heavenly Dao Sect," a cold female voice called out.
Wen Xue flew in on her sword, stopping before the two.
"I apologize, fellow Daoist. My junior brother was impulsive upon seeing the wretched state of the village," Wen Xue said apologetically. "I am Taoist name Wen Xue, a disciple of the Heavenly Sword Sect, and this is my junior brother, Yan He."
"Yun Hua of the Heavenly Dao Sect," Si Lingle replied.
"Fellow Daoist Yun Hua, when did you arrive? Do you know what happened here?"
"I haven’t been here long, but I discovered the presence of Evil Demon Qi. The hearts of the deceased have vanished," Si Lingle shared her findings.
Upon hearing about the missing hearts, Wen Xue said, "You might not be aware, fellow Daoist, but over the past month, several villages under the Heavenly Sword Sect’s jurisdiction have been attacked by demons, and the hearts of the villagers in those villages have also disappeared."
"The sect sent people to investigate, but beyond confirming it’s the work of demons, no other clues have been uncovered," Wen Xue continued. "While on our way back to the sect, my brother and I caught the strong scent of blood in the wind, so we rushed here."
"We didn’t expect the villagers here to have already met such a tragic fate."
"Senior sister, we should quickly pursue the demons. They might not have gotten far." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"After arriving, I used a Tracking Talisman to investigate. The demons have already fled underground," Si Lingle said. "There’s no need to pursue, fellow Daoist."
"What do these Evil Demons even look like? Not a single villager survived the attacks on these villages," Wen Xue wondered aloud.
"Didn’t you perform a soul summoning?" Cultivators can use auxiliary magical tools (like Soul Summoning Banners, Soul Lamps), combined with talismans or spells, to forcibly lead stray souls.
Some High-level Cultivators can even communicate directly with the Netherworld through Divine Sense Power, without external assistance.
"We wouldn’t know," Wen Xue replied. Although they knew demons killed the villagers, the sect hadn’t tasked them with the investigation, so they were unaware of the progress.
The sect also hadn’t informed them.
Being pure sword cultivators, both she and her junior brother had no knowledge of the Soul Summoning Technique.
Moreover, they didn’t possess the necessary magic artifacts or magic treasures for summoning.
"Fellow Daoists, I will perform the soul summoning. Through the memories of the deceased, I’ll ascertain the appearance of the Evil Demons." After summoning, she would ferry the souls to prevent the village from becoming an Extremely Yin Land, as that could breed ill entities.
Si Lingle took out a Soul Summoning Bell, followed by a sacrificial table, and placed offerings upon it.
Chanting a spell, Si Lingle began the soul summoning.
The villagers hadn’t been dead long, so it should have been easy to summon their souls. However, after a while, she only managed to summon one soul.
Even this soul was somewhat incomplete, suggesting that the souls of the deceased had been devoured by the Evil Demons, with this one being a fortunate escapee.
However, the soul felt like it wouldn’t last long before dissipating.
Si Lingle quickly searched the soul’s memories. After examining them, she discovered what the Evil Demons looked like.
She also saw how the demons slaughtered the villagers. The hearts were not taken by the demons, but by a person (or demon) wearing a strange mask and a black cloak who had dug them out.
Si Lingle took out paper and pen, sketched the mask of the cloaked figure, and handed it to Wen Xue: "This is the mask worn by the one who took the villagers’ hearts."
