Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Dad Loves You

Yvonne Lewis froze for a moment, then quickly chased after her. But it was hard to run in high heels, and Holly was gone in no time.

Vincent Vance chased after them. "Yvonne, you follow behind. I’ll go after her. You take it slow."

He ran for a dozen steps before realizing he didn’t know which way to go. He wasn’t familiar with the area and called out a few times, "Holly! Holly...!"

A thought struck him, and he turned and ran back. "Yvonne, where did Holly used to like to go?"

Yvonne Lewis froze again for a moment, then pulled out her phone. "I’ll ask Wyatt."

When Wyatt Winslow received the call, he was discussing a quality inspection with some workers. He saw the caller’s name, then stepped aside to take the call. "Hello."

"Holly’s missing. Where does she usually like to go?" Yvonne Lewis sounded frantic.

Hearing this, Wyatt Winslow’s expression changed instantly. He immediately went back to his office to grab his car keys, saying as he walked, "Check by the river and the back hill. What happened?"

Yvonne Lewis told him the whole story. Wyatt Winslow’s expression darkened, and he suddenly flared up. "Yvonne, Holly is just a child! I never should have agreed to let you take her back there." With that, he hung up.

Wyatt Winslow could look fierce, but he almost never lost his temper. Yvonne Lewis stood stunned for over ten seconds before snapping out of it. "Vincent, tell Mom to search the back hill. I’m going to the river."

"Be careful," Vincent Vance called after her.

Meanwhile, Holly hadn’t run very far, stopping at the entrance to the village. She didn’t have her phone, so she couldn’t call anyone, and there was no way she could walk home.

But she didn’t want to go back to the Lewis family’s house right now, either.

She squatted on the ground, picked up a twig, and started drawing in the dirt. Yvonne Lewis’s words flashed through her mind: ’Holly, apologize to Aidan.’

She just couldn’t ignore it.

Just then, a white car approached from a distance and finally stopped right beside Holly.

Mortimer Quincy saw his wife squatting on the ground, looking absolutely pitiful. He frowned, got out of the car, and called out, "Holly."

Holly looked up. She had just gotten her emotions under control, but the moment she saw Mortimer, tears began to fall one by one. "Hubby, what are you doing here?" she asked, her voice full of grievance.

Mortimer’s heart ached. He bent down, scooped her up, and coaxed, "I’m taking you home." Then, he placed her in the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.

Mortimer got into the driver’s seat. Just as he was about to start the car, Holly sniffled. "Hubby, we can’t leave. I haven’t celebrated Grandma’s birthday yet."

"Okay. Is your phone broken?"

Mortimer turned to face her, patting her head soothingly.

Like a child tattling, Holly nodded. "Aidan broke it."

"Okay, I’ll take care of him." Mortimer pulled her into his embrace. "Don’t cry, honey."

After they spent about ten minutes in the car, Mortimer drove Holly back to the vicinity of the Lewis family’s house. "I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be right at the village entrance. Just call out if anything happens. Don’t be afraid. I’m here."

"Thank you, Hubby." Holly’s drifting heart suddenly felt anchored. She stood on tiptoe, gave him a quick kiss, then waved and headed back to the Lewis family’s house.

Yvonne Lewis had just returned. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Holly. With red-rimmed eyes, she said, "Holly, why did you run off like that? What if something had happened to you?"

Holly didn’t say anything. Flora Langdon came over, took Holly’s arm, and said lovingly, "That’s enough. Come on, Holly. Grandma will make you some noodles."

It was already ten past eight when Wyatt Winslow arrived at the Lewis family’s house. He got out of the car with a grim expression, but he relaxed when he saw Holly eating noodles in the main hall.

Holly saw him too and obediently called out, "Dad."

Wyatt grunted in acknowledgment. "Finish your food. I’m taking you home after you eat."

Then he looked at Flora Langdon. "Something came up at school. I’ll bring Holly back tomorrow."

After finishing her noodles, Holly got in the car with Wyatt. When they reached the village entrance, Holly told him to stop the car. "Dad, Mortimer thought something happened to me. He just got here."

Hearing this, Wyatt pursed his lips. His tone was much softer than before. "Have him get in the car."

"He drove here."

Holly got out of the car and knocked on Mortimer’s window. A few seconds later, the car unlocked. "Hubby, I’m going home with Dad. You should come back with us."

Mortimer glanced at Wyatt in the other car and nodded. "Okay. You go first, I’ll follow behind."

The two cars drove one after the other. Thirty minutes later, they arrived at Delian Community. After parking, Wyatt looked at Mortimer and said with a frown, "You shouldn’t be driving if you’re underage."

Police checks weren’t very strict in the county, especially on the roads leading to the rural towns.

Mortimer nodded obediently.

Wyatt and Holly went home. Wyatt handed Holly a glass of water. "Did you fall and hurt yourself anywhere?"

Holly felt a sting in her nose and suddenly wanted to show her vulnerability to him. "Dad, I scraped my hand," she said, holding it out for him to see.

Wyatt glanced at her hand and pressed his lips together. He then got some rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the wound. He didn’t offer any words of comfort, only telling her to go to her room and sleep.

A few minutes later, she heard his angry voice coming from his bedroom. She could vaguely make out words like "Holly" and "hurt."

’Suddenly, the feeling of being wronged vanished completely. I’m not alone. Dad cares about me.’

’And my hubby cares about me too.’

The next day, Wyatt took her to the Lewis family’s house. He didn’t stay there but waited at the village entrance. Holly left as soon as she finished her meal. Yvonne came to see her off, saying she was sorry and other similar things.

Wyatt gave Yvonne the cold shoulder the entire time. He left with Holly, but instead of going straight home, he took her to buy a new phone—the same model as her old one.

Holly was downloading apps in the passenger seat when she suddenly heard Wyatt’s hoarse voice. "Holly, I’m sorry."

Holly froze for a moment before looking at him. His lips were pressed into a tight line. She shook her head earnestly. "Dad, you have nothing to be sorry for. I’m the one who should apologize to you. I always used to talk back to you, and I thought you didn’t care about me... that you didn’t love me."

"I thought no one loved me."

’In her past life, during Yvonne and Wyatt’s divorce, she had accidentally overheard a conversation between them. Yvonne had said, "You take Holly."’

’She hadn’t stayed to hear Wyatt’s reply. She hadn’t dared to. In her mind, if even Yvonne didn’t want her, there was no way Wyatt would.’

’That was why she had started to rebel. Only after meeting Mortimer did she slowly gain a sense of security and learn to depend on someone.’

"I thought no one loved me." The words replayed in Wyatt’s mind. He braked, pulling the car to a stop and killing the engine.

’His and Yvonne’s divorce had truly made their child feel insecure.’

He said, a little stiffly, "Holly, Dad will always love you. No matter what you’re like, Dad loves you."

「Sunday afternoon. Around four o’clock.」 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Mortimer didn’t head back to school with Holly, saying he had something to take care of.

「Meanwhile, in Mirell Town, at the Valorn Internet Cafe.」

Mortimer, dressed in a casual black tracksuit, scanned the crowd person by person. His gaze finally settled on a boy in the middle of a row, completely absorbed in his game. Mortimer’s eyes narrowed, and he strode over.

The game on the screen was at its most intense moment when the monitor suddenly went black.

Someone had shut down the computer.

The boy froze for a second, then looked up at Mortimer and cursed, "Who the hell are you? Are you nuts?"

It was Aidan Lewis.

Mortimer raised an eyebrow, a flicker of menace in his eyes. He grabbed Aidan’s collar, gave it a hard yank, and said in a slow, deliberate voice, "Come with me."

He was superior to Aidan in both height and physical strength, so he had no trouble dragging him right out of the internet cafe.
