Reborn with My Genius Husband-Chapter 147: Your Wife Ran Off With Someone Else
Noon. Naptime.
Holly Winslow finished a test paper and glanced up at the clock. There were still thirty minutes left.
She tilted her head to see what Mortimer Quincy was doing. He was slumped over his desk, fast asleep with his face turned toward her.
The buzz cut he’d gotten a while ago had now grown into a choppy, fluffy style that clung to his head. His sharp features were softened by sleep.
’What a tantalizingly handsome face.’
She glanced around. Most everyone was asleep. Emboldened, she leaned over and quickly kissed his cheek. But the moment she touched him, that rascal Mortimer woke up.
Before Holly, who’d been caught red-handed, could even react, Mortimer pressed a hand to the back of her head. He used his other arm to shield most of their faces, then went straight in for a devouring kiss, playfully sucking on her lips a couple of times.
Holly’s face instantly flushed red. Afraid of attracting attention, she didn’t dare struggle and could only go along with Scholar Quincy.
A minute later, Mortimer pulled back. His narrow, smiling eyes gazed at his blushing darling.
The next second, he pecked her again. "Darling, remember to kiss my lips next time. The cheek isn’t enough."
Holly: "..."
She pressed a hand to her pounding heart and slumped over her desk, her back to him.
’If this keeps up, I might not make it to the college entrance exams.’
’I’ll just take the childcare exam instead.’
...
As they struggled through an endless sea of test papers, the weather began to turn cold.
Holly and Mortimer’s seats had been moved to the window at the very back of the classroom. The window was half-open, letting in gust after gust of cool wind.
Holly, sitting by the window in a thin, white, crew-neck sweater, shivered and pulled the window a little more shut. "I should’ve brought an extra jacket."
Hearing this, Mortimer took a black casual jacket from his desk drawer, draped it over her shoulders, and zipped it all the way up. "Bringing a husband is enough."
Whenever Holly was around, he made it a habit to bring an extra jacket, just in case.
He hadn’t known to do these things at first; it was something they’d figured out together over time.
He wasn’t the only one who had changed. Holly had, too.
His darling, who loved spicy food, mostly ate bland meals now that she was with him.
He was a bit possessive and always wanted to manage Holly’s outings, but she never got angry. In fact, whenever she could, she would bring him along.
They had both changed for each other, which was how they’d found a way of being together that worked for them now.
Now warm, Holly leaned closer with a smile, blinking her eyes. "I’m awarding you ’Best Husband.’"
"Then ’award’ me." Mortimer raised an eyebrow and lifted his chin, gesturing for her to give him a kiss.
It was break time, and they were surrounded by classmates, so naturally, Holly didn’t kiss him. Instead, she mischievously reached out and pinched his lips. "Satisfied?" she asked slyly.
"Satisfied."
Mortimer took her hand and placed it on his own cheek, raising an eyebrow. "This is more satisfying."
Leaning against the wall, Pantheon happened to witness this scene and was instantly blinded by their PDA. He rolled his eyes and turned back to his desk.
Zeke Zane caught him out of the corner of his eye. ’Only an idiot would look back there.’
He’d learned not to look back there anymore.
’Got to be a mature single person.’
Paul Powell came in with two cups of milk tea. He gave one to Holly. "Cousin, this is for you."
He gave the other to Luna Lynch, his voice noticeably softer. "Luna, for you."
Luna Lynch glanced at it, adjusted her glasses, then took the drink and put it in her desk drawer before continuing with her homework.
Paul Powell immediately broke into a wide grin and returned to his seat.
Chase Hawkins was so overwhelmed with envy his teeth ached. He just shook his head.
Mortimer pulled ten yuan from his pocket and placed it on Paul’s desk. "For the milk tea. Thanks."
"No need, it’s my treat for my cousin." Mortimer often treated them to food, so how could Paul accept the money? He pushed it back.
Mortimer placed it on his desk again, his possessiveness flaring. "My Holly doesn’t need you to buy her milk tea."
’Only he could buy his darling’s milk tea.’
Zeke, Pantheon, and Chase Hawkins were force-fed another mouthful of PDA. "..."
Zeke thought that perhaps only by being blind and deaf could he avoid the PDA from the back of the room.
Knowing Mortimer’s personality, Paul didn’t insist. He pulled two yuan from his pocket to give back as change. "The milk tea was eight yuan," he said readily. "I’ll treat you guys to a meal next time."
Mortimer pocketed the two yuan and turned to look at Holly beside him. She was already drinking the milk tea, and his eyes curved into crescents, like a little white kitten.
He said dotingly, "Is it that good? Let your husband have a sip."
"It’s warm."
Holly nodded and handed it to him. Mortimer glanced at the milk foam on the straw, raised an eyebrow, and leaned down to take a sip.
Paul: "..."
’Holy crap!’
’Isn’t that a little too intimate?’
’One straw!!’
’Does that count as an indirect kiss?’
’Ahem, there go my dirty thoughts again.’ He opened his English book to calm himself down.
Chase Hawkins turned to look out the window. The cool wind matched his current mood.
’Don’t panic. This is just a normal, everyday scene.’
At noon, Holly received a message in the "Little Fairies" group chat: Anna Willow was in a relationship.
She subconsciously glanced at Zeke Zane in front of her, then enthusiastically typed back: Zeke Zane?
Anna Willow: ...
Iris Kensington: It’s not him.
Holly’s jaw dropped. ’It’s not Zeke Zane?’
’What a waste that they met so early.’
Anna Willow: It’s Charles Langley, the most handsome guy in Class 6.
Ahem, he’s been pursuing me for two weeks, so I agreed to give it a try.
From now on, I’ve also left the ranks of the single dogs.
Holly: ...
Congrats on getting a boyfriend, big sis.
Then she showed the phone to Mortimer. After a dozen or so seconds, he raised an eyebrow and kicked Zeke Zane’s stool.
Zeke had just turned around when he heard Mortimer say, "Your wife ran off with someone else."
A dumbfounded Zeke Zane: "..."
’What the hell?’
Pantheon was laughing so hard he was practically falling over. "Zeke, your wife ran off? How come I never knew you had a wife?"
Zeke Zane: "..."
After telling Pantheon to "Get lost," he turned back to Mortimer and said resentfully, "I only scrounged one meal off you. You don’t have to be so cruel."
"Our friendship is over!"
Mortimer raised an eyebrow. He’d delivered the message, anyway. ’We’ll see who regrets it later.’
He was actually a little happy. He and Holly had argued quite a bit over Anna Willow and Zeke Zane in the past, and he’d been forced to sleep in a separate room.
His darling had to comfort her best friend.
Even when class started, Holly was still reeling from the news of Anna Willow’s new relationship. After Anna and Zeke got married, her first love, Charles Langley, had always been a sore spot for Zeke.
She had thought that "sore spot" would be gone this time, but Charles Langley had still beaten him to it.
’Ahem, but then again, Charles Langley really is handsome, and he was good to Anna. They just didn’t survive the post-graduation breakup season.’
’Later on, Charles came back looking for Anna, but by then she was already with Zeke. Otherwise, they definitely would have gotten back together.’
A thought occurred to her. She scribbled a note, glanced at the teacher at the front of the room, and then passed it to Mortimer.
Mortimer read the note. "..."
’Fucking hell, I’m so pissed.’
What would you do if I got together with someone else?
’What would I do?’
He picked up his pen and wrote back a few bold words: First rape, then rape again.
