Chapter 81: Selecting Audition Scripts (2)

[When a mission is almost impossible to complete in less than a week, you’ll only receive one mission for that period.]

I twitched in irritation. The system hadn’t even given me much time for the Freeze My Debt mission!

[That’s because the success rate for that one was still high, while this mission is nearly impossible to complete in less than a week since all the auditions under Brix Entertainment won’t even start until about five days from now.]

[That’s why the reward is big because it’s considered a combined mission.]

[Besides, isn’t it exciting to enter enemy territory? This way, you’ll get to know your HUSBAND better!]

I hissed under my breath and snapped in my mind, ’Can you please stop shouting every time you say the word husband?’

[No, Host.]

[You must be constantly reminded that Lando is your HUSBAND!]

Penny really knew how to test my patience, but setting that aside for now, if no one in the Brixton family liked Lando, didn’t that mean my chances of passing the audition were practically zero?

After all, I was his wife, and people’s hatred often spilled over to anyone close to the person they despised.

No wonder Penny didn’t make it a requirement for me to actually pass the audition.

I leaned back on the sofa and let out a long sigh. If things were like this, then I’d have to do two auditions at the same time.

[Even though I gave you that note, it doesn’t mean you definitely won’t get accepted.]

[Green Leaf Production House may be under Brix Entertainment, but it’s still managed by a different team. There’s a chance your name isn’t that well-known yet.]

Penny was right.

Even after the bullying video spread, people still referred to me as "Madeline’s sister" instead of using my own name.

Maybe that would finally change once Vivienne started spreading the advertisements to the media.

[There’s a chance you might still pass the audition, but Penny would suggest you take two options just to be safe.]

I didn’t argue with her because she was right.

I quickly sent a message to Marissa, letting her know I planned to audition for two dramas at once: Love Beneath the White Umbrella by Green Leaf Production, and My Boss’ Obsession by another production house.

Honestly, I wasn’t too thrilled about the second one. It had a few sex scenes, and while I didn’t have a problem with that professionally, it still made me a little uncomfortable. However, as long as the actor was respectful or the producer decided to use a stunt double, I could handle it.

Still, it wasn’t the kind of story that excited me. Deep down, I hoped I’d get into the high school romance instead.

After sending that message, I put my phone down. I’d been scrolling through the Zentra App way too much lately. Half the reason was because I loved seeing how my account kept growing ever since I started posting daily skincare routine videos featuring my cats, and the other half was just ... doomscrolling.

"Helcia."

I turned my head and saw Lando coming back into the living room, pushing his wheelchair.

He had changed out of his business suit into something more casual. His hair looked a little messy, probably because he’d just dried it with a hair dryer after washing it.

I bit my lower lip, wondering why he somehow looked even more handsome when he was dressed casually and a little disheveled.

"Mr. Rowell will be arriving earlier than planned," he said. "So he’ll be joining us for dinner tonight." Then he added, "Is that a problem?"

I blinked a few times, a little surprised. It wasn’t really something he needed to ask me about. After all, he was the owner of the house, so he had every right to decide who came over.

"No ...," I said slowly. "It’s fine."

"Okay," he replied simply.

It was in that moment I realized he really was acting like a proper husband, the kind who respected his wife enough to ask before inviting someone else to dinner.

Holy shit, I didn’t expect it at all.

Right after the sun went down, Ethan arrived at the manor. He smiled at me as he said, "Good evening, Ms. Orszebet."

I smiled back at him. "Good evening, Mr. Rowell," I said warmly. "I hope the traffic wasn’t too bad."

"Ah, it’s not a problem." Ethan let out a small laugh. "Besides, I’m always happy when I get invited here."

It seemed like this wasn’t his first time visiting the manor, a clear sign that he was one of the few people Lando trusted enough to know about his real identity as the owner of Zentra Media.

Still, wasn’t that a little strange? Lando hadn’t even let Ethan keep the video of me, yet he trusted his lawyer so much that he’d shared one of his biggest secrets.

[Host, your HUSBAND probably cares more about your safety than his own.]

I quietly clicked my tongue. Penny really needed to stop shouting every time she said the word husband.

"Please, come in, Mr. Rowell," I said with a polite smile. "Let’s have dinner first before we talk about business."

Honestly, I was kind of glad too. It wasn’t often that I got to have dinner with Lando. Usually, the only time we ate together was when we met outside, since our schedules rarely matched, or maybe it was just that his schedule was always unpredictable.

We ate quietly in the dining room, a comfortable kind of silence filling the space. I noticed Lando would occasionally push a dish closer to me whenever I reached for something, like he was paying attention to what I wanted.

In return, I made sure to refill his glass every time it was empty.

It wasn’t much, but in that small exchange of gestures, dinner somehow felt a little warmer.

After dinner, we moved to Lando’s office so we could talk in private.

"Ms. Orszebet," Ethan began, his tone calm but serious, "your debt may be frozen for now, but that doesn’t mean it’s been completely cleared from your name. To make sure your record is truly clean, we’ll need to attend a court hearing first."

He paused for a moment before continuing, "The problem is ... sometimes it’s not easy to get someone like Mrs. Davenport to actually show up in court."
